His obituary in the guardian damned him with faint praise:

To be fair, he did have some good lines.

most of Thicke's career looked like hot garbage, but he was head writer on "Fernwood 2 Night", so RIP

i missed this, RIP. i got this album on a whim recently and it's really intense and wonderful.

goole, Wednesday, 14 December 2016 18:25 (seven years ago) link

The majority of Thicke's career probably *was* hot garbage (the half-an-episode of Growing Pains I caught a few years back is proof that some things are best left back in childhood) but I had gotten to really enjoy him in recent years as an affable presence in his guest appearances on things like Bill Maher's TV show and Gilbert Gottfried's podcast.

Also, I loved his response to Kirk Cameron's homophobic ramblings: “I love Kirk but I may have to spank him…’tho not in a gay way!”

Right. Important.

Whoever it was has to do a Dead Pool next year. This year was the first time it got missed, and look what happened..

i worked w/his brother for a few years and the unmistakable thicke voice runs in the family.

Seriously. Altman's son made more money for co-writing 'Suicide Is Painless' than Altman himself ever did for M*A*S*H.

RIP Dr. Seaver

Amongst the carnage of the 2016 rolling obituary thread, I think Muhammad Ali has been the only one of my regular dead pool picks to go.

I do.

clemenza, Thursday, 15 December 2016 06:49 (seven years ago) link

One of the best things about looking back on Bewitched is realising Elizabeth Montgomery was really left-wing, had a lot of control over casting choices and her cast was full of blacklisted and/or queer actors.

nickn, Thursday, 15 December 2016 21:24 (seven years ago) link

Though I'll add that I thought "Serena" was much sexier than "Samantha" because of the character, even though they didn't really try to make her look different, besides the clothes (maybe Serana had straighter hair?).

it got missed in 2015 as well. I'm not sure if this was a matter of ilx growing up and developing a social conscience or of the organizers being too lazy to start a new thread.

I have a strong apocalyptic feeling about 2017, so if there's a dead pool next year I'm gonna take a risk and fill my ballot with celebrity babies. sorry, Prince Alexander Duke of Södermanland, but if the world ends next year, you're going with it, and I may as well get some posthumous fake internet points out of the deal.

Heimlich's family is, uh, interesting. His wife co-authored a book on homeopathy, one son became a Christian radio talk-show host and another has a website dedicated to showing what a fraud his dad was.
