:-(

I went for lunch at the Miller at Mansfield pub in Goring just before Christmas with someone who lives in the village who told me that George Michael regularly came in, but also that he now weighed over 20 stone (280lb, 127kg) and even though his house was only 200 metres away he would always drive there.

Jazz-funk drummer Alphonse Mouzon. First drummer for Weather Report, solo artist, played on several excellent McCoy Tyner albums in the 70s, and a million other records.

^^ Source of the amazing drum sample from his album Funky Snakefoot that starts off the Beastie Boys' "Shake Your Rump-a" on Paul's Boutique. And a great album in its own right, too!

Oh shit, my dad worked with Alphonse, he's going to be super bummed out. Incredible drummer.

I read this fast and thought it was the gossip columnist Liz Smith. That Liz Smith is still alive at 93! (Very nice person too).

I'm sure I've told this story before but I went to the 2005 Washington, DC charity premiere of Revenge of the Sith and sat right in front of Fisher and Reynolds. She was going to sign something for me but security stopped her. My wife caught a quick picture of them when security wasn't looking.

Devilock, Tuesday, 27 December 2016 19:34 (seven years ago) link

she was really great, I have always been impressed by her performances in the original SW trilogy tbh. Only 20 and so confident and holding her own against that cast in a role that could have been completely moronic. I always thought her and Ford were the MVPs in that film for the levity and charisma they had, theirs were the kind of roles and performances missing in EP 1-3. And she was such a valuable cultural figure right til the end. I have a lot of admiration for her.

nomar, Tuesday, 27 December 2016 20:09 (seven years ago) link

The only book of her I ever consumed was the audiobook of "Delusions of Grandma," which she naturally read and performed herself. I remember enjoying it, and her being droll as fuck.

Was really surreal when Carrie Fisher was on QI talking about bleaching Bill Bailey's anus.
