Actually, my nominally Republican, voted-Bush-in-2000 dad is very pro-Kerry this time and has been arguing with co-workers who support Bush because he's "a man of faith."

My boss suggests that a low turnout in Eastern Tennessee and a gangbusters black vote in Memphis will make Tennessee a nail-biter.

I don't believe it, but we shall see.

We got a call from Laura Bush endorsing congressional candidate Jim "November the 11th" Bunning here in Kentucky. I smacked at the answering machine like a syphilitic roach was living on it until the bad voice went away.

I just tried to work up some realistic pessimism and the worst I could come up with is that the supposedly hyper-accurate Ohio mail poll Mystery Pollster talks about shows an exact tie, and it's supposed to rain in Ohio tomorrow. Oh no!

Federal judges have blocked the GOP's attempts to post people to challenge voters at the polls in Ohio. Appealed to the 6th Circuit which has 6 judges appointed by each party

I heard on the radio last night that some people might have to queue for hours at polling stations. Is this true?? Can someone explain why this is (in the UK it never takes more than about 10 minutes). Surely having to take a long time out of one's day to vote puts people off voting and is errrmm... not not very democratic?

Or did I mishear?

Maybe, Alba, it's because American voter turnout is usually so darn low. Today, with everyone wanting to vote, the polling stations are dealing with a much fuller capacity than they're used to.

I've never had to stand in line to vote, though this is likely to change today.

I got to the polling place 5 minutes before it opened, and I had to wait an hour. The line was longer when I came out then when I got there.

In the last election, I got to the polls at about the same time and did not wait at all.

It's worth the wait to make the critical change.

voter turnout should be huge! i heard that they were expecting almost 70% here in kentucky. so elsewhere should be earth-shattering. also, i too think that laura bush has some sort of lazy eye or a tendency to appear cross eyed. as does jenna. although she is still the hotter twin.

I was in line from about 8:15 to 9:05. This is the longest I've ever had to wait in line to vote, I think. They only had one voting machine. It was some kind of electronic voting machine, where a little red 'X' lights up next to the candidate you select, and then you press a button to cast the vote, but it wasn't a touch screen. I wonder if it has a paper trail.
