mk2 got me with 'pinch punch, first of the month' this morning, but forgot 'no returns', so it had to be done.

happy days.

this has been one of the mildest winters i've ever experienced in the northern US, feels like it's been march for the past month

marcos, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 15:06 (seven years ago) link

With occasional forays into May!

Cognition (Remix) (Jon not Jon), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 15:09 (seven years ago) link

yup tho it is still mentally comforting to hit march 1 & be closer to more sunlight / life / greenness returning in earnest :-)

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 15:10 (seven years ago) link

Woohoo! Yeah it has been very unseasonably mild here too -- I'm still glad it's March though!! That means we're a little closer to that fresh green feeling of spring :)

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 15:17 (seven years ago) link

Yesterday, a singing blackbird woke me up before the alarm went off. Hello there, spring.

willem, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 15:26 (seven years ago) link

I have pet starling so that happens to me more than I would like

Cognition (Remix) (Jon not Jon), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 15:27 (seven years ago) link

tbh I'll hate the bird come april ;)

willem, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 15:32 (seven years ago) link

All our bulbs and flowering shrubs are about three weeks ahead of last year's bloom times. I have an azalea out front that has no idea what month it is -- it's had blooms on it since December.

March came to Texas in January this year. Mountain Laurel has been blooming for weeks... my walks across campus are redolent of grape Kool-Aid

Ahhhhhh
All I can report is that it's no longer dark when I wake up at 6:30am

Living in Florida, I crave winter and hate summer.

Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 17:33 (seven years ago) link

The feels-like temperature where I'm at is 87 degrees right now.

Snowed here and the UK apparently. Shut everything down too. No buses running businesses closed etc etc.
Flurries of snow have settled but I bet it's light compared to places where it snows more frequently. I guess the ability to prepare for things like this comes with more frequent experience of it.
Didn't get into town so not sure tow hat extent it has affected things there but here supermarkets are closing at 3pm & npot due to open til 1pm tomorrow.

I mysteriously lost an hour this morning getting ready for work

I SWEAR when i shut off my alarm it was 7. Did my usual approx one hour getting ready routine without further consulting clock. Looked at phone for first time and it was 9. Was supposed to be on a call with EU Supply Chain at 9.30

hell yes it's march

Lockhorn. Lockhorn breed-uh (Jon not Jon), Thursday, 1 March 2018 15:37 (six years ago) link

El Tomboto, Friday, 30 March 2018 12:37 (six years ago) link

march is always so goddamn long but this one feels especially so, I hate this month so much

marcos, Friday, 30 March 2018 12:43 (six years ago) link

my mom's birthday is at the end of march -- this is historically the only thing i look forward to in the entire month
aside from it being over

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 30 March 2018 13:26 (six years ago) link

ten months pass...

it's almost time!!!!

march will get off to a booming start for me this year -- i'm going on a trip!! i think i am going to begin conceiving of Nov-Feb as a quarantined period of the year and the rest of the year will not suffer from its many assorted unpleasantries.

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 20:15 (five years ago) link

Have a good trip!

ian, Wednesday, 27 February 2019 20:32 (five years ago) link

March is not my favorite, but it beats February.

My mom’s bday is also in late March.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 20:44 (five years ago) link

I was just thinking it’s time for this thread again!

tokyo rosemary, Wednesday, 27 February 2019 20:45 (five years ago) link

march is when the light comes back and the darkness starts to recede
it's not the best but it beats nov-feb

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 20:47 (five years ago) link

March !! Months of Mars!

| (Latham Green), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 20:49 (five years ago) link

Winter feels extra long this year.

tokyo rosemary, Wednesday, 27 February 2019 20:51 (five years ago) link

i like it not being dark when i get home from work.

but the march weather in vancouver is usually bad. often doesn't really feel like spring, more like the end of winter. first time i was ever in vancouver - march 2012 - it snowed

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 20:51 (five years ago) link

it IS the end of winter but it is the END OF WINTER
that is why i celebrate march

it marks the beginning of the good times, which last 8 months to the bad times' 4

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 20:53 (five years ago) link

too soon

mookieproof, Wednesday, 27 February 2019 20:55 (five years ago) link

yeah we don't really have that kind of seasonality. starts raining in september, stops at the end of june. coldest december to february, can be sunny in april, may, june.

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 27 February 2019 20:55 (five years ago) link

it's more than the weather for me -- the cold season (nov-feb) is accompanied by a slew of holidays that i don't care about/would prefer to ignore and a hibernation period i find stultifying. March-October brings increasing sun, warmth, AND people. that's important to me. i didn't realize how important it was for a long time but it is important to me!!
