Hi, guys. Just dropping in.

But not someone who should be dead anyway (Laurel), Tuesday, 5 May 2009 15:02 (fifteen years ago) link

tell me about 'wallingford'

When I lived in Seattle in the early 90s I lived in Wallingford. LOOOOOOVED it! Lived just off 40th, worked in an office on 45th, so I could walk to work, Guild theater as mentioned above, some great little restaurants and pubs. A quick bike ride to U District and Fremont areas, easy bus ride downtown. When I moved back to Minneapolis, my prerequisite was that my quality of life be as good as it was in Wallingford.

tehresa, Tuesday, 5 May 2009 16:24 (fifteen years ago) link

argh so after promising emails, i haven't heard back from that girl.

tell me about:

  • 23rd Ave East near Madison
  • "North Fremont" - is this a realtor scam term for something awful (we're talking NW 48th St)
  • Beacon Hill (not really considering this)

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 19:24 (fifteen years ago) link

23rd and madison - ehhhh
north fremont isn't really a term, but this is up towards me, totally fine and nice
beacon hill will be awesome once light rail opens july 18th

jergins, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 19:43 (fifteen years ago) link

23rd Ave East near Madison - scary at night, can be sketchy during the day. I lived near here for 2 years, my closest grocery was the Red Apple at 23rd and Cherry. There's a new Safeway/apartment complex at 23rd and Madison and some other new townhouse-type devel, but not the greatest area. Because of new devel, I thought the rents were higher than they should be for what you got - this was a year ago though, haven't been looking at it recently.

no clue about "North Fremont". A codeword for "on Aurora" (which, hm, no thanks)?

I like Beacon Hill, there's some vibrant pockets w/good places to eat and drink, not as much redevel as south Seattle so still some great single family bungalows and stuff, light rail will start running later this year. Down the hill to the north (Rainier/MLK) can be rough, but leads toward Columbia City/Hillman City/Seward Park.

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 19:48 (fifteen years ago) link

esp never having met them, getting that vibe in advance? yikes

jergins, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 19:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Never heard of "North Fremont" either; wouldn't that actually be Greenwood? Phinney Ridge?

Such A Hilbily (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 6 May 2009 19:50 (fifteen years ago) link

right?
xpost

tza, my step-daughter is giving up her studio apt on Cap Hill, don't know if it's available right away or what $, but could find out if you want more details.

I am directionally challenged by this NW designator. Also, it should be illegal to have an intersection that is 148th & 148th (Totem Lake I am looking at you).

Jaq, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:06 (fifteen years ago) link

would love details, jaq!
i'm interested in mid-june/july 1.

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:09 (fifteen years ago) link

hahaha

email 1: we are in greenlake
reply: cool, where?
email 2: "n. 95th st, about 2 miles from the greenlake/wallingford area"

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:11 (fifteen years ago) link

i nix that one before you can even ask about it.

lxy, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:14 (fifteen years ago) link

it should be illegal to have an intersection that is 148th & 148th

i was the MOST confused child by that, friends living at 112th and 124th, only it was 112th ave and 124th st and not vice versa. god i get confused even writing it out and i've got a great sense of direction damnit

jergins, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:15 (fifteen years ago) link

lol obviously that is way too north for my tastes and also street view was not v v pretty, btw.

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:16 (fifteen years ago) link

haha no it's kinda yucky up there.

48 NW would be fine. what's the cross street?

lxy, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:17 (fifteen years ago) link

btw 2nd and 3rd NW

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:17 (fifteen years ago) link

ps lxy do you have uw clout? bc my resume for one job for which i think i am perfectly suited has made it past initial hr review and been sent to the department but lol that could mean anything.

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:18 (fifteen years ago) link

48 NW between 2nd and 3rd is near the zoo, and just off Greenwood Ave., which has restaurants, antique shops and such. Nice.

Such A Hilbily (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:24 (fifteen years ago) link

Erm, well, not exactly. It's a few more blocks from that stuff.

Such A Hilbily (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:26 (fifteen years ago) link

*SIGh*

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:33 (fifteen years ago) link

This is a very bohemian, creative place, small room, cozy.

"bohemian" and "creative place" make me want to run away but it's fremont and cheap!

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:43 (fifteen years ago) link

Tehresa, are you looking up any of these places on Google maps? Just plug in, say, 202 NW 48th Street and check out the neighborhood. Awesome!

Such A Hilbily (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 6 May 2009 21:01 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, street view is my bff!

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 21:06 (fifteen years ago) link

but you know, no substitute for actually knowing an area.

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 21:07 (fifteen years ago) link

clout LOL no, no clout, sorry! i am fully and officially clout-free.

that neighborhood is nice, close to the bus, close to me!

lxy, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 21:21 (fifteen years ago) link

i am fully and officially clout-free

girl can run a porch like nobody's business tho

jergins, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 21:39 (fifteen years ago) link

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 21:48 (fifteen years ago) link

3rd Ave N and Boston in Upper Queen Anne. Good?

tehresa, Thursday, 7 May 2009 20:22 (fifteen years ago) link

They seem nice... could be an easy sublet!

tehresa, Thursday, 7 May 2009 20:22 (fifteen years ago) link

neighborhood's nice, close-in enough

do u hear just a beat ― Thursday, 7 June 2009 06:33 (jergins), Thursday, 7 May 2009 20:25 (fifteen years ago) link

house + yard + possibility of buying chick's CSA share at a reduced price!

tehresa, Thursday, 7 May 2009 20:27 (fifteen years ago) link

welcome future greenbean grower

roommates are two (2) environmental preservationists and one (1) naturopathic medical student so yeah

tehresa, Thursday, 7 May 2009 20:45 (fifteen years ago) link

That one sounds pretty good, house + CSA.

Step-daughter is moving out of her place at the end of the month, says there are several empty in the building and rents have been dropping on the hill. http://www.nwapt.com/harvardcrest.html I think she was paying around $750 for a huge studio (that had a closet big enough for her queen bed, so was more like a 1 bedroom).

Jaq, Thursday, 7 May 2009 21:04 (fifteen years ago) link

is she moving because of any major deficit in the building, or other reasons?

tehresa, Thursday, 7 May 2009 22:56 (fifteen years ago) link

Other reasons - sharing a house with friends in the Central District. I think the only issue she's had in this place is the electric baseboard heaters are crappy (though they work).

Jaq, Thursday, 7 May 2009 23:07 (fifteen years ago) link

good to know!
i will keep this in mind as a backup, should cheaper things fall through. capitol hill isn't really my #1 choice, but it could be a contender in the event of desperation.

tehresa, Friday, 8 May 2009 03:13 (fifteen years ago) link

ummm anyone feel like vetting a place on queen anne ave n for me on sunday at 5pm?
will pay you in drinks or cook you dinner or something!

tehresa, Friday, 8 May 2009 04:31 (fifteen years ago) link

capitol hill isn't really my #1 choice

why not?

ya rly. is it seattle center accessibility?

gabbneb being gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 8 May 2009 05:49 (fifteen years ago) link

center is just as accessible from cap hill as from most other areas talked about

magna cum lord (The Reverend), Friday, 8 May 2009 06:19 (fifteen years ago) link

From the Hill. Getting to Seattle Center is a matter of going to Denny Way and then heading down. Since I take the bus it's a little convoluted, but not horribly so. If you're taking the bus it's an No. 8.
