― jergins, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 19:49 (fifteen years ago) link
Never heard of "North Fremont" either; wouldn't that actually be Greenwood? Phinney Ridge?

tza, my step-daughter is giving up her studio apt on Cap Hill, don't know if it's available right away or what $, but could find out if you want more details.

I am directionally challenged by this NW designator. Also, it should be illegal to have an intersection that is 148th & 148th (Totem Lake I am looking at you).
― Jaq, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:06 (fifteen years ago) link
would love details, jaq!i'm interested in mid-june/july 1.

i was the MOST confused child by that, friends living at 112th and 124th, only it was 112th ave and 124th st and not vice versa. god i get confused even writing it out and i've got a great sense of direction damnit

lol obviously that is way too north for my tastes and also street view was not v v pretty, btw.xpost

― tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:18 (fifteen years ago) link
48 NW between 2nd and 3rd is near the zoo, and just off Greenwood Ave., which has restaurants, antique shops and such. Nice.
― Such A Hilbily (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:24 (fifteen years ago) link
Erm, well, not exactly. It's a few more blocks from that stuff.

This is a very bohemian, creative place, small room, cozy.
"bohemian" and "creative place" make me want to run away but it's fremont and cheap!
― tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:43 (fifteen years ago) link
Tehresa, are you looking up any of these places on Google maps? Just plug in, say, 202 NW 48th Street and check out the neighborhood. Awesome!
― Such A Hilbily (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 6 May 2009 21:01 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah, street view is my bff!

― tehresa, Thursday, 7 May 2009 20:45 (fifteen years ago) link
That one sounds pretty good, house + CSA.
Step-daughter is moving out of her place at the end of the month, says there are several empty in the building and rents have been dropping on the hill. http://www.nwapt.com/harvardcrest.html I think she was paying around $750 for a huge studio (that had a closet big enough for her queen bed, so was more like a 1 bedroom).
― Jaq, Thursday, 7 May 2009 21:04 (fifteen years ago) link
is she moving because of any major deficit in the building, or other reasons?
― tehresa, Thursday, 7 May 2009 22:56 (fifteen years ago) link
Other reasons - sharing a house with friends in the Central District. I think the only issue she's had in this place is the electric baseboard heaters are crappy (though they work).
― Jaq, Thursday, 7 May 2009 23:07 (fifteen years ago) link
good to know! i will keep this in mind as a backup, should cheaper things fall through. capitol hill isn't really my #1 choice, but it could be a contender in the event of desperation.

ummm anyone feel like vetting a place on queen anne ave n for me on sunday at 5pm? will pay you in drinks or cook you dinner or something!

ya rly. is it seattle center accessibility?
― gabbneb being gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 8 May 2009 05:49 (fifteen years ago) link
center is just as accessible from cap hill as from most other areas talked about
― magna cum lord (The Reverend), Friday, 8 May 2009 06:19 (fifteen years ago) link
From the Hill. Getting to Seattle Center is a matter of going to Denny Way and then heading down. Since I take the bus it's a little convoluted, but not horribly so. If you're taking the bus it's an No. 8.

Mr. Jaq and I can do this thing
― Jaq, Friday, 8 May 2009 13:36 (fifteen years ago) link
omg are you serious? <3 <3 <3 forever, really! email me and i will send details.
the cap hill thing isn't related to seattle center. it's just that i felt other neighborhoods (queen anne, fremont, etc.) were prettier and i felt more 'at home' in them. i liked the area up closer to volunteer park though - near cornish? v pretty. but the more 'main drag' areas seemed like fewer trees, more people, and more of a destination than place to live.
― tehresa, Friday, 8 May 2009 14:06 (fifteen years ago) link
that's definitely true of the main drag. but i think the more residential parts are some of the prettier parts of seattle.
― gabbneb being gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 8 May 2009 14:09 (fifteen years ago) link
i'm thinking specifically of the area just east of vol park - may be expensive and mostly family homes i guess. madison valley, which is supposed to be relatively cheaper, seems like a nice area.
― gabbneb being gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 8 May 2009 14:24 (fifteen years ago) link
tza, have webmailed you.
My favorite neighborhoods for prettiness are Montlake, Mt. Baker, Madrona/Denny Blaine. Spendy and sort of less transit accessible though, esp. Madrona.

just wrote you back! <3

I understand completely about Cap Hill, and I'm no chamber of commerce, but I will say that I really like my area of it on 15th--great neighborhood, very unlike the rest of the Hill in feel. But I adore Lower Queen Anne and Wallingford and I hope to eventually move to one of those neighborhoods.
