Ugh we're going to get rolled. Tillerson is a fucking incompetent lightweight.

Per @jonathanvswan, likely the only other people in Trump-Putin meeting will be Tillerson, Lavrov and translators https://t.co/i7Pk4kiRWc

Nearly every state in America is Texas, with one or two Austins each.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 6 July 2017 20:44 (six years ago) link

That article has got a lot of neat info about Texas politics, but the title seems like it was chosen by someone who hadn't actually read it.

erry red flag (f. hazel), Thursday, 6 July 2017 20:52 (six years ago) link

TBH I stopped reading it after 15 pages maybe, when I realized a), there was a whole lot more, and b), it was pretty much just an article about Texas politics.

Who could have predicted this would happen?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 6 July 2017 22:26 (six years ago) link

no one knew it was this complicated folks

They should just explain to everyone that once they get the supply going, the demand will follow. That's economics, folks.

GOP health bill is a mess because no one thought Trump would win

Republican leaders expected Hillary Clinton to become president, and that left them paralyzed about how to proceed when she didn’t.

It's much easier to toss bricks when you are outside glass houses.

earlnash, Thursday, 6 July 2017 22:37 (six years ago) link

the other reason their bill is a mess is that there aren't actually any great ways to get more people health care that involve spending less money without the government getting involved. it really doesn't matter how much time they prepare a health care bill, that will always be the case.

iatee, Friday, 7 July 2017 01:33 (six years ago) link

Huh. Republicans creating a workable healthcare bill would be an act of self-annihilation.

jenkem street team (carpet_kaiser), Friday, 7 July 2017 01:34 (six years ago) link

Not sure it'd be any different with the current incarnation of the Democrats, either. Wonder why it hasn't happened yet. All the non-ghoul Americans are on their own, so what to do about that.

The New York Times and the Democrats are trying to build and secure their base of the well-to-do who have a philosophy pretty similar to the Republicans on this front. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/10/opinion/sunday/stop-pretending-youre-not-rich.html

At the very least, they see a threat's out there. And what's that threat? People demanding a humane quality of life. Ohohohohohoh, so horrible!

Hey man, I've seen too much fucked up shit under both the Republicans and Democrats philosophies. I'd be a monster if I didn't speak out about it.

jenkem street team (carpet_kaiser), Friday, 7 July 2017 01:49 (six years ago) link

Meanwhile, for what it's worth, Illinois, with the help of both Democrats and Republicans (though of course mostly the former) overrode the disliked GOP gov's veto to pass its first budget in two years, I think the longest any state has ever gone with no budget. This came not long after Dems and Republicans overrode the disastrous Kansas GOP governor's budget veto, and after the disliked GOP governors of Maine and New Jersey lost their own budget battles, ending their respective shutdowns. Something's afoot. At the least, just saying no turns out to be a pretty shitty way to run a government.

Οὖτις, Friday, 7 July 2017 02:04 (six years ago) link

Alright, Democrats aren't as bad as Republicans in total, but that creates a dangerous situation since the only other alternative we've got are the Republicans. "You want some of this nice stuff? Well, you gotta take all our shit, too, fuckface."

where's that stupid mind explosion gif

El Tomboto, Friday, 7 July 2017 02:47 (six years ago) link

Got mine, fuck you. It's a sentiment shared by both Republicans and Democrats. Just different constituencies.

How long do you think that can last? It's a mindset that's not going to create a more humane society, just one with yet more tribes who fight each other with increasing violence.

"HURRRR all this unrest, this anger, this misery, where's that coming from?" I guess nowhere, according to you guys. Guess what exists doesn't, because the desire to pretend it doesn't. Whatever.

jenkem street team (carpet_kaiser), Friday, 7 July 2017 02:59 (six years ago) link

Iago Galdston was more fun iirc

El Tomboto, Friday, 7 July 2017 02:59 (six years ago) link

It's because this isn't fun. Maybe it is for you. I just remember the elderly woman who was tossed to a hospital who got drugged to death because she was an inconvenience. Watching her mind and health decline, while Republicans beat their chest in euphoria, and Democrats say "hey, not me!" and cover themselves in piety.

Maybe you could teach me a thing or two about blood lust hidden in costume, Democrat style.

jenkem street team (carpet_kaiser), Friday, 7 July 2017 03:03 (six years ago) link

It's related because both Republicans and Democrats both hold fast the ideology of free market Capitalism, a hierarchy based on the "best use" of humanity decided top down. And that use is profit. The unprofitable must be eliminated. Nothing different b/t the two parties there, gay marriage or not. Luxury laid on bones.

Treeship, Friday, 7 July 2017 03:46 (six years ago) link

I actually agree that there are inherently fucked up aspects of society that our political system is structurally unable to address, which has rendered us vulnerable to nihilism.

Treeship, Friday, 7 July 2017 03:54 (six years ago) link

I don't think this justified the nihilism though.

Treeship, Friday, 7 July 2017 03:55 (six years ago) link

What this is isn't nihilism. We've seen it before, it's just learned from experience.
