So tweets like that ... is there a serious contingent of old cranky GOPers like Grassley and, I don't know, McCain, who are just so clearly discomfited by what's going on yet feel totally compelled to go along with it anyway? Like, if its a bad idea, why wait until it fails to complain? Or for that matter, why complain but just do it anyway? They're just complete cowards, right, but you'd think decades of experience would have taught them how to better navigate through this shit, unless this situation was truly never imagined. When they bump into true believers, old coots like Corwyn and young assholes like Gowdy alike, can they just not believe their ears, or at they (like apparently Hatch) just totally not listening? A shithead like McConnell, has he been rubbing his hands with glee since election day, or secretly panicking that his grand plan will be undone by dicks like Cruz and morons like Trump? It's a shame we'll likely never get an honest accounting from these dummies when the dust has settled in a couple of decades.

President Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., was promised damaging information about Hillary Clinton before agreeing to meet with a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer during the 2016 campaign, according to three advisers to the White House briefed on the meeting and two others with knowledge of it.

The meeting was also attended by his campaign chairman at the time, Paul J. Manafort, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Mr. Manafort and Mr. Kushner only recently disclosed the meeting, though not its content, in confidential government documents described to The New York Times.

The Times reported the existence of the meeting on Saturday. But in subsequent interviews, the advisers and others revealed the motivation behind it.

The meeting — at Trump Tower on June 9, 2016, two weeks after Donald J. Trump clinched the Republican nomination — points to the central question in federal investigations of the Kremlin’s meddling in the presidential election: whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians. The accounts of the meeting represent the first public indication that at least some in the campaign were willing to accept Russian help.

And a fun question is why Manafort and Kushner all of a sudden disclosed the meeting. Sure seems like something else is about to drop.

Getting rid of Kushner is optional atm. We still need to pry Bannon and Miller out of the WH. God knows what they're doing day after day, but it can't be good.

This is so fucking stupid... Donald Jr really is one of the most stupid people on earth. I also love that Kushner and Manafort both disclosed the meeting at the same time, but neither of them apparently gave Don Jr a heads up. It's Kushner's brother-in-law, and he completely sold him out.

They're all bad.

To be absolutely fair, the meeting took place in June 6th, and the Crowdstrike report on the DNC hacking only came out on June 14th. So Donald Jr probably didn't know that the Russians were hacking, and just thought they'd found some dirt. Still, though, the whole thing is so fucking stupid.

A guy called Rinat Akhmetshin was running smear campaigns against prominent supporters of the Magnitsky act at the time - and working with the lawyer in question, Veselnitskaya, on behalf of the real estate company Prevezon. His job was to dig up and spin any dirt he could find. Prevezon, as was mentioned in the article, was under indictment for money laundering.

There isn't necessarily any link to hacking or government conspiracies but it definitely looks like they were lobbied directly by a company pretty obviously guilty of laundering large sums through NY real estate and who were, at the time, involved both in dirty tricks and in trying to get political leverage to drive down their liabilities.

Y'all complained about "covfefe," but I'd rather deal with that thing than opening this thread to Scott Walker's endless plain of bland.
