the treason cries def aren't helpful. even in a made-for-press quote

it's closer to espionage but admittedly that's a less fun word to yell at ppl

Rampant speculation among WH advisers about who leaked on Don Jr to NYT..evidence-free blame shooting in all directions...no trust in there

Just a random reminder, BTW, that the guy Trump wants to replace Comey at the FBI has hearings starting tomorrow.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 21:51 (six years ago) link

Apparent implication: this was news to them too.

that's ... not encouraging

this is happening right now on /r/the_donald right now, and i bet any money that jr has an account there.

I...worked on this story for a year...and...he just...he tweeted it out.

Seriously, Hills is literally nothing right now. She is barely a public figure.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 22:19 (six years ago) link

Weird, don't know why I posted that. Must have been a draft sitting in my app. Anyway, just heard an interesting and in these days wholy plausible theory, that maybe the information about Don Juniors email Communications originate from the Russians, a shot across the bow to Trump for not giving them what they want.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 22:21 (six years ago) link

this moron:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/11/opinion/trump-russia-collusion.html?action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=opinion-c-col-right-regionยฎion=opinion-c-col-right-region&WT.nav=opinion-c-col-right-region&_r=0
The benefit of the doubt I extended to Trump was limited, but on a rather important subject: I thought that direct collusion between his inner circle and Russian officialdom during the 2016 campaign was relatively unlikely and the odds of ever finding proof of such a conspiracy vanishingly low.

But now that I've seen it I believe that the odds have increased!

Hadrian VIII, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 22:23 (six years ago) link

The key thing to remember from the NYT stories is that it's three sources in the White House providing this info.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 22:24 (six years ago) link

maybe FBI doesn't want to let on what it has

global tetrahedron, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 22:25 (six years ago) link

They think "but Hilary!" is a great defense because they assume the Left blindly adores and defends its "leaders" like the Right does.

Never a boring moment in Trump world: Roger Stone, on record, accuses Corey Lewandowski of leaking on Trump Jr. https://t.co/qgf2T4qFX1

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 22:25 (six years ago) link

xpost They are right about that to a certain extent.

Hadrian VIII, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 22:26 (six years ago) link

Asked whether the administration was concerned about who had provided the New York Times with information and emails related to Trump Jr.โ€™s meeting with a Russian lawyer, a frustrated White House official curtly waved away the question Tuesday.

โ€œIโ€™m not talking about Don Jr.,โ€ the official said. โ€œYou can talk to Don Jr.โ€™s people about Don Jr.โ€

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 22:27 (six years ago) link

Also I keep seeing reports on this

BREAKING: Leading Senate Republican says revised GOP health care bill will likely retain Obama tax boosts on wealthier Americans.

— The Associated Press (@AP) July 11, 2017

Doesn't that essentially kill it? Even if it somehow passes, what's the House going to do?

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 22:28 (six years ago) link

makes me think twice about pulling a left wing tea party if the result is being unable to accomplish a single thing

global tetrahedron, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 22:29 (six years ago) link

They are? I know of no one irl or online/media who would reflexively defend Hilary or anyone else against these sort of allegations. Any "but Hilary did it too!" retort, I'm just like "oh ok well then let's impeach her too then sure why not"

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 11 July 2017 22:30 (six years ago) link

if 3 people in the campaign knew about this (presumably at least one of them not in the meeting, unless jr is one of the sources, which is possible i guess because he seems like he's got hundreds of chromosomes) then it beggars belief that trump himself did not know.

๐” ๐”ž๐”ข๐”จ (caek), Tuesday, 11 July 2017 22:32 (six years ago) link

Well, they could just take the savings fromt the Medicaid cuts, and then roll them into their tax reform bill later this year? Same difference. But like, do they think that people will fall for that? If there's still 22 million losing insurance, they're going to be okay with it because it doesn't immediately go to the rich?

Frederik B, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 22:34 (six years ago) link

Granny it's obv. a new frontier but Dems by and large have given HRC and Obama both wide berths on any number of offenses that would have them jumping up and down had Dick Cheney or the Bushes committed them

I want to believe that Eric Trump is going around saying "I tried to tell dad that buttmunch would screw it up. I should be running the company anyway."

if jr wouldn't have tweeted out the entire email chain, it would have been published on the NYT anyway, right?

(i'm not saying it wasn't dumb for jr to do it himself)

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 23:19 (six years ago) link

That is my understanding. He was trying to "get ahead of it." It still looks dumb though imo

#BREAKING Donald Trump Jr says he did not tell his father of his meeting with Russia lawyer

— AFP news agency (@AFP) July 11, 2017

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 23:26 (six years ago) link

So despicable that Trumo would use his own son as a scapegoat.

Treeship, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 23:27 (six years ago) link

It's really looking like this Goldstone dude just lined up a meeting between a Russian who was looking for someone with political influence on one side, and someone who wanted to get some political dirt from the Russians, and stuck them in a meeting with the hopes something would come together?

jesus christ what a shitshow

โ€• mh, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 22:18 (yesterday)

this is obviously exactly what happened. which is why i'm not surprised mueller doesn't have it. i reckon this doesn't touch on the things he's investigating i.e. actual conflicts of interest, felix sater, billions owed on development projects, dnc hacking, etc.

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 11 July 2017 23:28 (six years ago) link

what makes you think mueller doesn't have it?

๐” ๐”ž๐”ข๐”จ (caek), Tuesday, 11 July 2017 23:30 (six years ago) link

I think it all depends on what "a Russian who was looking for someone with political influence" exactly means, though.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 23:30 (six years ago) link

Yeah the significant part of this story is Donaldinho's eagerness to take oppo from the Russian sources and also his lack of surprise that there was a Russian governmdng effort to help his dad's campaign or however it was phrased.

Treeship, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 23:31 (six years ago) link

i keep wondering, is this the kid trump hit? i mean he probably hit both of them a lot, but from that story that was going around uh six months ago

j., Tuesday, 11 July 2017 23:32 (six years ago) link

Yes, it is.

He's an odd one, that Junior.
