If presstv.ir is quoting 'the CNN' you know it's a watertight story.

Rudy's paper trail is too filthy even for the current environment

Would Rudy have to be recused if he somehow got confirmed or does it apply just to the person and not the office

The Kush pushback - Kushback? - is so slick and sneaky. Like, if he had excuses for all thus stuff people have been saying for months that he's done or been involved with, why did he wait to release them as a carefully composed statement the morning of his closed door interrogation? Just begs disbelief. It's a lot easier to believe he's been shady and silent because he has something to hide then to believe he just put off his defense because he's been too busy.

Watch CNN for any two-hour stretch during the day, and the phrase you'll hear most often is "I don't think he really understands that."

Journalists need to get congressional Republicans on the record with how they'd respond to a Mueller firing.

why bother

I get that we shouldn't expect any satisfactory answer, but they need to be pressed on this topic now rather than later. If Republicans agree that Mueller is trustworthy and deserves support, then they need to be cornered regarding how they feel about a potential firing. Not being willing to answer says just as much.

Plus, those kinds of questions are beloved by Beltway reporters; it's as if they're willing to happen. Meanwhile we all lose because Mueller looks like the best man for the job.

it's an amazing sequence of events! trump is in the middle of a sea of smiling white summer interns who don't realize that they're posing for a picture with nixon in the summer of 1974. a reporter asks about one of the dozens of ongoing fuckups that he singlehandedly created, and all of the dipshits just smile and laugh in response

Karl Malone, Monday, 24 July 2017 16:40 (six years ago) link

^^^

a) they won't answer, b) if forced they will give a non-committal answer, c) if they are eager for attention (Graham, McCain, etc.) they will say it would "be unforgivable" or "set a terrible precedent" or something like that

none of their words will have any bearing on their future actions, and will be repudiated/ignored when and if it becomes politically expedient in preserving the party's grip on power

Democrats are going to have a hard time taking back both Houses of Congress before September.

If Republicans agree that "grab 'em by the pussy" is over the line, then they need to be cornered regarding how they feel about Trump's candidacy and temperament.

Look how well that worked out. It doesn't matter because most of the pearl-clutchers got back on the train; some were even forgiven enough to join the administration.

the discouraging thing is, if the republican members of the house and senate do not make a point of saying to Trump and to us – ahead of time – that no, he may not pardon himself or his family members, that if he fires Mueller it will be grounds for impeachment, then he'll be in a stronger position when he inevitably does those things

they will never turn on him. which is why the only solution to this is electoral.

Tax cuts and prohibiting women from doing what they like with their bodies binds this caucus together. It'll stick with the president as long as necessary.

I'm surprised they don't care about how stupid and cowardly they look.

All my life I've cared -- too much -- about how I looked. They just don't I guess.

Οὖτις otm. There is no cavalry coming.

Vote these fuckers out so they're not in power; as long as they're there they will not bow to any entreaties. And btw feel free to use any and all flavors of Democrat to do so plz. It's not a time to be picky, unless it is strategically useful to be picky.

leave your emu at the door (Ye Mad Puffin), Monday, 24 July 2017 17:34 (six years ago) link

for example, consider the flavor of democrat that thinks tax credits for job training is a nation-mobilizing, election-winning vision. strategically useful?

the best strategy to kick out the republicans: vote for the best dem available in the primary. give your vote to any dem in the general. at the very least, that negates one vote for the republican.

if you want to be more effective, don't stop at voting. give time and/or money to the best candidate available. if you are as ccrazy as jjusten, you can run for office yourself.

Schumer generally outlined a more progressive agenda. Nitpicking the tax credits for job training thing feels like a way for some people to stay on brand after Dems have done what they've asked them to do.
