guys, i already love seattle apartments! my lease came with like 20 pages of tenants rights info :)
ny landlords can suck it.

i don't get the paying for water/sewer thing though.

Utilities are strange here - some places we've lived had W/S/G paid, one had W/S and gas (for the stove) paid. Others have paid for no utilities whatsoever. One place paid for gas (had a gas fireplace, no gas stove), nothing else. This current place pays for water/sewer/garbage and steam heat. It's all over the place.

weird. in ny state landlords pay for all the water/sewer/trash. if you live in a building with more than 3 units, they are required to pay heat/electric/gas as well.

ah well.

one of my coworkers gave me this fun fact on my last day:

Wow, I've lived here for ten years and even though I've made mental groupings in my head of those streets, it never occured to me that so many of them start with the same letters like that.

what is the best san juan for a day trip?

orcas is nice, but the people can be grumpy.

go see the alpacas if you're there, and consider staying overnight at juniper lane guest house. juniper is very nice and it is quite inexpensive.

certainly i will do an overnight at some point, but not this time as my visiting friend is only here a few days and we have much to do.

SJI is pretty easy. make a loop from friday harbor: roche harbor, english camp, lime kiln, american camp. that western side of the island facing victoria is one of my favorite places

on a nice weekday the twists and turns remind me of the drive south of big sur. it's that pretty

haven't been to lopez or shaw. obv I am only a mid-lvl sj tourist

I'd love to get a boat to take me to Patos Island. Very small state park there and also a lighthouse. I can see it from my house at night.

I've only been out to the islands a few times, but found them pretty darn boring. Then again, I spent most of my life out in the boonies...I prefer the city!

hey jergs, approx how long would you recommend for the around the island tour?

maybe three hours? the aforementioned spots take maybe a half hour each to get to know. tough question! four hours if you want to meander?

best reasonably priced sushi?

I like Maneki a lot - excellent quality, good-sized portions, very little ambience. But it's down in my neighborhood. Sam's Sushi isn't bad (lower QA). Marinopolis Sushiland was very meh the one time I tried it, so haven't been back. Blue C is fun and fast, but not especially reasonable.

I think Marinopolis is the only place I've gotten sushi in the city. u_u
