Naive and non-snarky British question: why do the UK government seem to be gunning for a fight with Russia? Is it as simple as "Its a response to the poisoning on British soil"? (My guess is that it isn't).

Tough talk always plays well with large swathes of the electorate. Think back to the Falkland's War and the big boost it gave Thatcher's popularity, even though the war probably cost more than a century's worth of the Falkland's GDP.
