Yeah, what's up with that dude?

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 19 March 2018 00:55 (six years ago) link

Officer of the court and all

Moo Vaughn, Monday, 19 March 2018 00:58 (six years ago) link

He's been acting like a guy that's seen a ghost.

Most of GOP: (takes a shot of whiskey) "There are no such things as ghosts! Gowdy, you go in that abandoned house and prove there's no ghost!"
Gowdy: (takes a shot and slams down the glass) "Yeah, fuck a ghost! Watch this, you pussies."

Gowdy opens the creaky front door and goes inside. He emerges 5 minutes later, quiet and ashen faced.

GOP: "So what do you say, Gowd!? Tell 'em!!"
Gowdy: "Guys, I just don't want to talk about."
GOP: "What do you mean, Gowd?! I mean, tell them ... tell them you didn't see anything. You didn't see anything, right?! I mean, come on, there are no such things as ghosts."
Gowdy: "I just want to go home."
GOP: "But, Gowd, I mean ... there are no ghosts, right?"
Gowdy: "You believe what you want to believe."
GOP: "But you didn't see anything, right? Tell us you didn't see anything!"
Gowdy: (picks up the bottle of whiskey and takes a big swig) "I don't know what I saw."
GOP: "But, I mean, Gowd ... there was no ghost, right?"

Gowdy stares out at something in the distance.

Gowdy: "I don't even know what to believe anymore."

Gowdy takes the bottle and walks off, silent, lost in his own thoughts, his hands - perceptible to only to most observant - still shaking.

It isn't in question that Trump was running in 2015. The question is how far the decision and various linkages go back. To support his long-running theory that the game was afoot in 2013, Abramson is pointing to evidence of what he implicitly deems 2014 CA-Trump linkages -

I've said that Michael Cohen implied to The New York Post in mid-2013 that Trump would run, and that Trump was letting Russians know he'd run by late 2013. Since I said that, the confirmed latest date for Trump deciding to run has been pushed back from June 2015 again and again. https://t.co/USJx4q03YW

— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) March 20, 2018

- but this seems typical to me of his potential overreading, as those might well have been slogans developed by CA (Bannon in connection with the Mercers?), but intended for a Cruz-type candidate without (?) Russian ties though shopped around to others.

He's doing what prosecutors and investigators do and stretching the evidence far less than his ideological enemies. Your opinion will be noted after you've graduated from Harvard Law School and represented 100s or 1000s of clients in American criminal proceedings.

lol, "laurence tribe 'went to' harvard"

Moo Vaughn, Wednesday, 21 March 2018 19:12 (six years ago) link

I think the operative idea there is that tribe is full of shit.

A is for (Aimless), Wednesday, 21 March 2018 19:16 (six years ago) link

For most of us, it is not a stretch to acknowledge that many many shit people went to/graduated from Harvard.

Naive and non-snarky British question: why do the UK government seem to be gunning for a fight with Russia? Is it as simple as "Its a response to the poisoning on British soil"? (My guess is that it isn't).

djh, Wednesday, 21 March 2018 19:31 (six years ago) link

Tough talk always plays well with large swathes of the electorate. Think back to the Falkland's War and the big boost it gave Thatcher's popularity, even though the war probably cost more than a century's worth of the Falkland's GDP.

About?

Moo Vaughn, Wednesday, 21 March 2018 19:40 (six years ago) link

Does the UK’s response really even remotely constitute “gunning for a fight”?

Nerdstrom Poindexter, Wednesday, 21 March 2018 19:47 (six years ago) link

Yeah, really it should be "nerve agenting for a fight."

despite his stint as a public defender in NH and career as a poet, abramson's trajectory through the recruitment-heavy institutions with long ties to the security state -- Dartmouth (98), harvard Law (01), iowa writer's workshop (09), UW madison (16) -- make it very hard to ignore the obvious: he's CIA.

About?

Not for me to say. But laughing at the mayor's assertion that Laurence Tribe "went to Harvard" as a way of delegitimizing the idea that Tribe is full of shit is picking up the wrong end of the stick. btw, it also doesn't wash, because Tribe did go to Harvard. He went there to work there.

A is for (Aimless), Wednesday, 21 March 2018 19:58 (six years ago) link

Iowa Writer's Workshop is a CIA front? Huh. Never knew that. I guess I'm glad I never applied.

I leprecan't even. (Ye Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 21 March 2018 20:01 (six years ago) link

I'm laughing at the description "Laurence Tribe 'went to' harvard" as if he weren't one of its and the American academic legal community's most prominent professors, Learned Hand.

lol at this bullshit

ted cruz graduated with honors from harvard law school, guess he must be smart too

i can never turn down an opportunity to trot out my unpopular opinion that ted cruz is smart

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 21 March 2018 22:04 (six years ago) link

attending a prestigious school doesn't make anyone smart. not even graduating with honors at harvard (and princeton, earlier). but look at what he did by the time he was 30, let alone by the time he was 35 and 40: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Cruz

there are plenty of emperors without any clothes. but you don't get to argue 9 SC cases by your mid-30s unless you know what you're talking about.

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 21 March 2018 22:10 (six years ago) link

anyway, sorry for derail. i just love ted cruz, he's a great person
