i don't usually watch michelle's segment after the show (or that plays after the show when you watch drag race online) but the vixen came off much better in that, and looked super cute w/ some stubble to boot. this is besides the point but the vixen really should model, aside from doing drag.
in any event, i find the ongoing discussion on the show about the concept of the angry black woman to be very interesting... i wonder if there's ever been another moment in reality tv history where there was a real time on camera meta conversation about how the show might portray one its contestants vis a vis a racial stereotype, and then that discussion being aired on TV and made the dominant storyline of the season? i find it hard to call heads or tails on the vixen either way bcuz of the inherent manipulation of everything we see, but i put a lot of stock in asia's analysis of the whole situation in this most recent episode.

that was a good post, J0rdan
very sad at the dastardly edit/ru-ception Miz Cracker is getting this season; i guess it is what happens when you follow directly after a Trixie Mattel win
final 3 looking to me like:eureka (ugh)aquaria (sigh) [or conceivably kameron (?!)]asia (go go go go)
― sean gramophone, Monday, 14 May 2018 02:09 (six years ago) link
Final four, surely, based on last year.
― Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 May 2018 02:10 (six years ago) link
oops i skipped s9
that changes things; hmmm
― sean gramophone, Monday, 14 May 2018 02:13 (six years ago) link
I kinda hope Aquaria doesn't make it to the final 3; I want Cracker to get there instead.
― Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 14 May 2018 03:19 (six years ago) link
cracker is downright wonderful
but imo it's clear at this stage that the producers/ru herself are not big fans, or at least aren't excited about another white comedy queen for s10.
― sean gramophone, Monday, 14 May 2018 11:29 (six years ago) link
Isn't that what Eureka is, too?

"we need a big girl to win"
― sean gramophone, Monday, 14 May 2018 13:50 (six years ago) link
Miss ... Vanjie!
― nourish nourish your turtleheart (Eric H.), Monday, 14 May 2018 13:56 (six years ago) link
You know part of me wants the final to have the top four do their thing and then Ru awards it to Miss Vanjie for the hell of it.
― Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 May 2018 13:59 (six years ago) link
Vanjie and that sponge have already gotten more quality screen time than anyone else.
― nourish nourish your turtleheart (Eric H.), Monday, 14 May 2018 14:00 (six years ago) link
Anyway, at this point, I'd say that yeah, Cracker and Monet seem the least likely to make the final four.
― nourish nourish your turtleheart (Eric H.), Monday, 14 May 2018 14:03 (six years ago) link
idk cracker hasn't even lip synced yet, and comedy queens to me always have a leg up when it comes to making the final 4 even tho they can be passed up to win
― J0rdan S., Monday, 14 May 2018 15:38 (six years ago) link
Okay I sensed that coming. But it WAS a good lip sync.
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 18 May 2018 04:32 (six years ago) link
I mean, it was very good, but so was the previous week's. The only difference last week was that there was a "villain" to dispatch.
― nourish nourish your turtleheart (Eric H.), Friday, 18 May 2018 12:38 (six years ago) link
Agreed. Also I do wonder what it would have been like if someone had been sent home this week -- is one of next week's makeover guests on standby?
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 18 May 2018 12:55 (six years ago) link
God, I found that challenge painful, though. Unfunny, overlong, POOR.
― trishyb, Friday, 18 May 2018 22:47 (six years ago) link
Next week's is MUCH more interesting already.
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 18 May 2018 22:56 (six years ago) link
It's a fine line between camp and crap, but this season's written challenges seem far more on the latter side than usual.
― nourish nourish your turtleheart (Eric H.), Saturday, 19 May 2018 02:04 (six years ago) link
Agreed. Bearing in mind the calibre of the queens this season, I haven’t found it as entertaining as previous ones.
― Madchen, Saturday, 19 May 2018 06:19 (six years ago) link
I'm guessing that Cracker approaches her comedy analytically, so when she didn't win any of the comedy challenges, she started getting in her head and is kind of in a vicious cycle of self-doubt. And that's kind of emblematic of this bizarro season, where the look queens are outperforming the comedy queens in the comedy challenges. (Acquarium can be intentionally funny, who'da thunk?)
Loving Asia, though, a den mother who can also turn it out!

Asia was awesome this week. I loved her old age look so much 😂

Some great official postings from DragCon going up. Season 3 reunion's a treat.
― Ned Raggett, Sunday, 20 May 2018 03:13 (six years ago) link
realized i should stop watching raja and raven's photo fashion ruview when watching it became like the two-minutes hate from 1984.
― clouds, Sunday, 20 May 2018 14:01 (six years ago) link
the fact that raven wants to read someone else's looks while looking like victoria beckham crossed with lady elaine from mister roger's neighborhood is just... i can't
― clouds, Sunday, 20 May 2018 14:03 (six years ago) link
yeah I have been wrestling with that too
― Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 20 May 2018 15:14 (six years ago) link
Aja and Manila are both great standins -- the DragCon live RuView this year was Raja and Aja and it was funny as hell.
― Ned Raggett, Sunday, 20 May 2018 15:37 (six years ago) link
agreed with that. would actually love just an aja fashion review.
― clouds, Sunday, 20 May 2018 16:58 (six years ago) link
Raja, even when she’s dismissive, still has an energy that I dig.
― nourish nourish your turtleheart (Eric H.), Sunday, 20 May 2018 17:34 (six years ago) link
Raven is very rigid & set in her ways
― Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 20 May 2018 19:46 (six years ago) link
Yeah. You don't like shoes with a strap, Raven. We get it!

Kameron's lipsynch was incredible! I didn't know she had it in her. She told Ru the stage is where she lets go and I'm glad we got to see it.
― LeRooLeRoo, Monday, 21 May 2018 15:31 (six years ago) link
i think kameron got lucky that she lip synced with a prosthetic face. it brought a comedy to the lip sync that i don't think she would have been able to summon otherwise
― J0rdan S., Monday, 21 May 2018 16:11 (six years ago) link
I agree it helped her facial expressions but I'm still giving her credit for her dance moves and head shakes!
― LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 22 May 2018 22:17 (six years ago) link
it was v good makeup. this series is such a drag.
― Heavy Messages (jed_), Tuesday, 22 May 2018 22:44 (six years ago) link
I feel like as a series, it needs to try harder, because a lot of these queens seem much more talented than what they're getting to work with. Chatting with a friend the other day who pointed out that a lot of the series tropes end up feeling like chores, for example everybody gets excited for Snatch Game but the actuality of it is that it's always disappointing now.
― boxedjoy, Wednesday, 23 May 2018 16:28 (six years ago) link
― sean gramophone, Wednesday, 23 May 2018 16:53 (six years ago) link
Basically agree that the best episodes are almost always the ones where the queens get to write their own material or create their own fashions (or someone else's). Snatch Game gets a pass because they're still in charge of their own ad libbing.
But, man, the acting challenges with pre-existing scripts are just getting worse and worse.
― nourish nourish your turtleheart (Eric H.), Wednesday, 23 May 2018 17:35 (six years ago) link
By contrast, I thought this week was a superb episode. Loads of fun workroom stuff, and loads of RuPaul gems. Good times.
― trishyb, Friday, 25 May 2018 11:35 (six years ago) link
Yeah, a truly fun episode and, at least by my estimation, an even better LSFYL match-up (tho maybe that was just editing).
That said, and as much as I actually admire Kam for being able to keep her shit on lockdown in this environment, that was the wrong call overall.
― nourish nourish your turtleheart (Eric H.), Friday, 25 May 2018 12:36 (six years ago) link
Also, S10 without Monet and Monique is just a whole hell of a lot less fun.

Genuinely thought he was Cynthia Lee Fontaine for a split second.
― trishyb, Friday, 25 May 2018 17:13 (six years ago) link
The problem was that Monet didn't know the words in the lip sync, and Kameron was on every syllable. And Ru had already played the "nobody goes home this week" card.
