Yeah. Apparently he has 7.3 million subscribers.
I do have a habit of clicking on pointless nonsense, so the algorithm's probably just throwing everything at the wall.

Between the World Cup and Love Island, I have to keep a very good check on my DNGAF quotient

noted, and couldn't gaf about DL DNGAF levels for the former, agree with the latter.

i may or may not be married to the HR officer for the film production company of one of the above events

it may or may not be the one id prefer

tired culché (darraghmac), Thursday, 14 June 2018 10:56 (six years ago) link

It was only after I watched Frankie Boyle's TV show the other week (I know, I know) that I discovered Love Island isn't actually an island.

Ward Fowler, Thursday, 14 June 2018 10:58 (six years ago) link

it's not? oh shit no i don't care i don't care

My name is the Pope and in the 90s I smoked a lot of dope (dog latin), Thursday, 14 June 2018 11:14 (six years ago) link

i liked watching Love Island with my daughter last week cos it's really designed to sit and joke about it with somebody else

obv i feel the pain of non-football fans subjected to World Cup fever for a month but tbh we all have to live surrounded by bullshit fever for some shitty cultural thing that we don't care about 99 percent of the time so i think people shd really be able to manage just fine and suffer in silence

"Africa" by Toto

flappy bird, Monday, 18 June 2018 18:11 (six years ago) link

it’s no ‘rosanna’ right enough

Or "Hold the Line".

We can be herpes (Tom D.), Monday, 18 June 2018 18:15 (six years ago) link

tru

I never liked the song but I never really hated it. as far as I can remember it was always a joke, like 'Never Gonna Give You Up' even pre-Rickroll. I don't understand the sudden surge in ironic/or is it? talk of Toto's 'Africa.'

flappy bird, Monday, 18 June 2018 18:17 (six years ago) link

it just seems like a meme that arrived 10 years late

flappy bird, Monday, 18 June 2018 18:18 (six years ago) link

I like it, it's a good song, but not that good.

We can be herpes (Tom D.), Monday, 18 June 2018 18:19 (six years ago) link

it's been a lol-80s party favourite for years now

My name is the Pope and in the 90s I smoked a lot of dope (dog latin), Monday, 18 June 2018 19:43 (six years ago) link

I've started really liking it after listening to EccoJams a lot earlier this year.

Frederik B, Monday, 18 June 2018 20:01 (six years ago) link

i like it a lot, i like "never gonna give you up" too.

Africa by Toto was in GTA: Vice City making it a favourite lol 80s song of a whole generation. But that predated current social media, and perhaps the subsequent generation is catching on to it now? (feel like maybe this isn't the case and it's all 30 year olds creating the Africa content)

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Monday, 18 June 2018 23:03 (six years ago) link

i really like never gonna give you up and have done it at karaoke a few times. it goes down absolutely terribly and I'm never doing it again

never gonna give you up was a surefire hit w/ the young gay club kids last year. it grew on me.

you bet, nancy (map), Monday, 18 June 2018 23:27 (six years ago) link

The Africa by Toto thread already went over - in excruciating detail - the issues of whether the song was always awesome (and fortuitously rescued from obscurity by memedom), always in the culture (which was exactly where it belonged), always a joke and only referenced for camp/"ironic" reasons, and every permutation in between.

I understand some ilx0rz may be late to this particular party, but the "I don't care" thread seems an odd place to open those buckets of worms. If you truly don't care, then move on with your life.

If you are interested in discussing the nuances of how/why this song is being perceived and discussed in the year of our lord 2018, then it stands to reason that you do, in fact, actively care.

other people's opinions about whether or not i do, in fact, care about something or not

Arch Bacon (rushomancy), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 03:04 (six years ago) link

i mean people usually explicate why they don't care about something itt. usually between 1-4 posts... toto has always been in the culture but i've just sensed an uptick in the last six months or so. whatever. Good song

flappy bird, Tuesday, 19 June 2018 04:18 (six years ago) link

Whatever any celebrity has to say that gets woke claps from the audience. Try harder. Fucking weak

sunburst N snowblind (Ross), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 07:44 (six years ago) link

Are you kidding me about Africa? The songs great. Wtf

sunburst N snowblind (Ross), Tuesday, 19 June 2018 07:44 (six years ago) link

Y’all need to ditch yer irony and just enjoy music for what it is. Christ. You think too much
