raonic/isner inevitably going 5, tho no tiebreaks yet (pity anyone misguided enough to have bet "Will there be a tiebreak played? Yes -5000, if it doesnt come in) o_o

johnny crunch, Sunday, 2 September 2018 22:29 (five years ago) link

roger down 2 sets to 1, looks off in every way

strong deutan (rip van wanko), Tuesday, 4 September 2018 04:03 (five years ago) link

InfoWarriors (Spottie), Tuesday, 4 September 2018 04:17 (five years ago) link

Mysteriously* waking up at 5:51am to find Millman at MP: maybe I just had to be there for the end of Fed’s career :(

(* not really, GF’s alarm goes off at 5:50)

10 double faults? Served at 6-3 5-4 40/15? Sounds like a disaster tbh.

What’s the longest ever gap between Slams? For Delpo it would be 9 years...

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 4 September 2018 05:07 (five years ago) link

thiem pushing this to 5 is impressive

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 5 September 2018 04:51 (five years ago) link

Goddammit. Missed smash on MP.

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 5 September 2018 06:05 (five years ago) link

great match

InfoWarriors (Spottie), Wednesday, 5 September 2018 06:07 (five years ago) link

After Fed’s fall I was really hoping for a last four with none of the old guard. Del Potro-Thiem/Nishikori-Millman would have been ideal.

Nadal only won seven points in that first set.

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 5 September 2018 08:48 (five years ago) link

well, millman made him work a bit

mookieproof, Thursday, 6 September 2018 03:59 (five years ago) link

I'm worried Serena doesn't have any real friends, because a real friend would have talked to her about that dress

strong deutan (rip van wanko), Friday, 7 September 2018 00:04 (five years ago) link

serena has transcended all these things

mookieproof, Friday, 7 September 2018 00:28 (five years ago) link

stoked for Osaka, hopefully it's a great final!

monotony, Friday, 7 September 2018 05:42 (five years ago) link

I loved the dress. It's like when Usain Bolt turns and smiles at the camera before he crosses the finish line.

Yerac, Friday, 7 September 2018 11:07 (five years ago) link

delpo chokin away a service game for the first set

mookieproof, Friday, 7 September 2018 21:12 (five years ago) link

So what's the feeling? I'd like Serena to get another slam but can't help feeling that I'd like Osaka to do it as well.

Delpo to win on Sunday would be sweet, but he's never beaten Djoko in a slam and I can see heartbreak.

uk ppl what's the stream you are using for this if any?

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 September 2018 18:51 (five years ago) link

*whispers* cric hd dot com

imago, Saturday, 8 September 2018 19:01 (five years ago) link

scroll down the list of channels until you find one that'll be showing the tennis, probably eurosport idk

imago, Saturday, 8 September 2018 19:04 (five years ago) link

Its on amazon prime in the uk (they got the rights from sky/eurosport)...don't know if that's gonna do it.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 September 2018 19:08 (five years ago) link

Anything to detract from Margaret Court's legacy is a win.

Yerac, Saturday, 8 September 2018 19:11 (five years ago) link

Only seeing this thing through tweets but Osaka is dominating and has won the first set.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:08 (five years ago) link

Listening on the radio. Epic game 4, Serena breaks!!

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:21 (five years ago) link

What happened with the coaching thing! I missed it!

Yerac, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:30 (five years ago) link

This is bullshit!

Yerac, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:31 (five years ago) link

Dude. Serena IS the game. The first thing I thought of was McEnroe getting away with years of this bullshit.

Yerac, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:34 (five years ago) link

She received a warning for coaching, she denied she was being coached, but the replay showed Mouratoglou was in fact giving some kind of instruction.

breastcrawl, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:36 (five years ago) link

Fucking fine the coach.

Yerac, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:38 (five years ago) link

That happened in the second game of set 2, and she’s been unravelling ever since. Osaka got under her skin big time (with her fantastic playing, I should add)

breastcrawl, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:39 (five years ago) link

xp Yes, the game fine is weird

breastcrawl, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:40 (five years ago) link

I would burn that place down. With all the shit they put on Serena, especially this year.

Yerac, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:41 (five years ago) link

Osaka win is totally deserved though

breastcrawl, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:42 (five years ago) link

Both of these things can be true.

Yerac, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:44 (five years ago) link

This was extraordinary. Osaka was ice cool throughout to wrap it up. What a player!!

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:45 (five years ago) link

I need to find out what happened before. we tuned in way late.

Yerac, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:46 (five years ago) link

The umpire was wrong but Serena was weirdly channelling McEnroe to get herself going against an opponent who had all the answers.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:47 (five years ago) link

Never forget the Serena rant against Ramos (its hard to believe he will ever umpire a slam final again).

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:50 (five years ago) link

Yeah, that umpire is done. Especially if all other coaches are coaching every single point in his matches.

Yerac, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:56 (five years ago) link

That was very emotional. We are so teary here. She has had to get through so much shit recently ( I mean her entire life).

Yerac, Saturday, 8 September 2018 21:56 (five years ago) link

This is by far the most upsetting match I have ever seen. And this awards ceremony. We are crying.

Yerac, Saturday, 8 September 2018 22:03 (five years ago) link

this is all very crazy and amazing

the bhagwanadook (symsymsym), Saturday, 8 September 2018 22:04 (five years ago) link

Holy shit, if every single coach is out there making hand gestures or talking to themselves or whatever, remove the coaches from the court.

Yerac, Saturday, 8 September 2018 22:08 (five years ago) link

I get that but there is something entitled about her behaviour (lol "we'll get through this"). The umpire made a mistake but there was such a loss of control here.

Williams was getting beaten by a better player on the day, and now hearing Osaka she can't even enjoy it. I hope she will in time.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 8 September 2018 22:09 (five years ago) link

Poor Osaka. That umpire is an ass.

MrDasher, Saturday, 8 September 2018 22:09 (five years ago) link

Yeah, but they have been after Serena for awhile (she gets treated like shit). No one can withstand that forever. How dare they imply that she has to cheat. I would tear shit up.

Yerac, Saturday, 8 September 2018 22:11 (five years ago) link

And yeah, Osaka. I was like the stupid interviewer needs to just move along. Osaka can't even feel good about anything that just happened. And fuck Chris Everett too. She came off like trash.

Yerac, Saturday, 8 September 2018 22:13 (five years ago) link

It was upsetting. Those rules are stupid to begin with, are obviously discretionary and inconsistently applied, and it appears violations may not be well communicated to the players during the match. To employ them in this way at this time was BS. He was not only unfair to Serena, he took a big dump on Osaka's achievement and her moment.
And yeah, why did the interviewer ask that question about how the reality compared to the dream.

MrDasher, Saturday, 8 September 2018 22:52 (five years ago) link

And of course all the anti-Colin Kap racists are so gleeful everywhere right now. What a shitshow. Osaka apologizing for winning. Christ.

Yerac, Saturday, 8 September 2018 22:57 (five years ago) link

holy cow

He said captain, I said wot (FlopsyDuck), Sunday, 9 September 2018 00:25 (five years ago) link

Yeah, Serena's racist haters are so happy about this outcome and to blame Serena and praise the umpire. Ugh.

MrDasher, Sunday, 9 September 2018 00:37 (five years ago) link

Congrats to Osaka. To beat Williams in front of a parochial home crowd is a stunning achievement. Some really embarrassing behaviour from Williams tonight.

triggercut, Sunday, 9 September 2018 02:35 (five years ago) link

jesus lord, nearly 20 min game here. another bp saved.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 September 2018 22:08 (five years ago) link

Djoko holds a 20 min game...he went up to the umpire to ask about the ball change and engaged Del Potro in that...interesting, is all I'll say.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 September 2018 22:12 (five years ago) link

Fairly easy hold Delpo: 5-4

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 September 2018 22:15 (five years ago) link

getting a sinking feeling about the tie-break

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 September 2018 22:29 (five years ago) link

4-4, my heart can't take this

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 September 2018 22:37 (five years ago) link

FH error from Delpo, 2 serves for the 2nd Djoko

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 September 2018 22:39 (five years ago) link

2 SPs Djoko :-(

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 September 2018 22:39 (five years ago) link

yup, I was right

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 September 2018 22:40 (five years ago) link

he had what 7 BPs in that epic game? god fuck this.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 9 September 2018 22:41 (five years ago) link

He "only" had 3 BPs in that game (8 deuces). 95min, 99pts, what an insane set of tennis. Oh well, it's bed for me. Hope I wake up to an extraordinary story.

Michael Jones, Sunday, 9 September 2018 22:43 (five years ago) link

alas. Not sure why Del Potro played in a Brazil shirt anyway.
