Chicago: More Bars in More Places

I may have been lucky because I got a techy position and one thing that the U doesn't really have is tech degrees. They have CS but I doubt anyone from that program is going to want to come here for sub-40k starting pay.

But srsly I work for the biggest department in Journals (~40 ppl) and like one person went to school here.

I need input/help on wording a flier. We're trying to lure in 6 people to serve on a mock jury. It's in late Oct 9AM-3PM. Stipend is $50 and you get free lunch at a decent local pub. The target audience is W. Loop workers and UIC students.

My predecessor wrote "HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO BE A JUROR BUT NOT BE ON A JURY?"

And my answer to that is "Hmm. Not really, no."

Can anyone get me started here? My cleverness and knack for luring in folks is at a low.

If you're really looking for students, make the $50 and FREE FOOD the biggest parts.

I would be on a mock jury! That sounds like better money and food than being on a real jury. Also, nostalgia for high school social studies class.

What is appealing about being on a mock jury for you guys, as intelligent, thoughtful people we would want on the jury. I wonder if they select the jury in the same way they would in court?

I would think that a fake trial has a better chance of being an interesting case than a real one.

I can think of two or three dudes off the top of my head who might be interested.

do you dream of glamour and intrigue? murder and espionage? have you ever wanted to be a film noir star? or maybe just wear a trenchcoat and dark glasses? well, we can't offer you all that, but we CAN give you free food, $50 and a day in the life of a juror!

I am drinking Coors Light. Cheap (on sale) and tastes like water (a good thing at the moment).

I went to Foremost Liquors and got cheap Coors Light and hit their discontinued wine section. Last time I did that I got a 10 year old zin that turned out to be fascinating -- it showed a lot of age, and might have been coming to the point where it was undrinkable soon, but as it was it was the most interesting $8 I spent on booze maybe ever.

Anyway, tonight I got a bottle of zin for $5 and a German off-dry rose for $5. Here's hoping they work out as well.

I should really go to Foremost more often. It's in the Argyle ghetto, and it's pretty busted looking, but it's got awesome selection.
