Luckily next week is the "Mac bares his torso in the gay pride parade" ep that is, tbh, the only one I've been anticipating this season.

I just started the new season and I didn't even recognize Dee in the second episode when she was standing next to the Escape Room person.
― Yerac, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 20:48 (five years ago) link
This season has been a rushed mess, but ... I did not see this finale coming. Not one bit.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 8 November 2018 18:33 (five years ago) link
Yeah, that episode was everything I needed it to be.
― I Never Promised You A Hose Harden (Eric H.), Friday, 9 November 2018 14:28 (five years ago) link
I didnt know what to make of that ending.
― Οὖτις, Friday, 9 November 2018 15:05 (five years ago) link
I kinda disagree. I found the season spotty but not much more than the last season or three, and had plenty of highlights for me.
but while I thought the dance sequence was amazing, I found the rest of the episode shockingly short on jokes. Just having Frank bleeding a lot didn't really do it for me.
― dan selzer, Friday, 9 November 2018 16:03 (five years ago) link
yeah it just wasn't funny. I kept thinking there was gonna be some joke at the end of the dance sequence that would tie it all together but... nope
― Οὖτις, Friday, 9 November 2018 16:07 (five years ago) link
the dance sequence reminded me of their dance routine at the high school reunion
Except that one did have a punchline where it turned out to be all in their head but actually terrible. This one did not. It actually reminded me a bit of the end of "Beau Travail!"
I did think the rest of the episode was terrible and even wondered if that was on purpose. A running gag of Frank sticking things up his nose to stop bleeding? Lame.
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 9 November 2018 16:35 (five years ago) link
exactly
― Οὖτις, Friday, 9 November 2018 16:37 (five years ago) link
I'm basically in agreement with AV on this one. The tepid, meh-ness of the episode that led up to it, which set you up to expect another "lol they're not really killing George Michael choreography like they think they are" punchline, allowed Mac's earnest butterfly moment to soar on its own barely coherent terms.
I get why people wouldn't want that from this particular show. But, as a gay man who also has had a history of setting up self-sabotaging apparatuses to keep me from reaching self-actualization, it resonated like a tuning fork in my chest.
― I Never Promised You A Hose Harden (Eric H.), Friday, 9 November 2018 16:38 (five years ago) link
yeah this is not a show that has ever trafficked in earnestness or genuine emotion so it was sort of jarring to see the sequence played (for lack of a better term lol) straight
― Οὖτις, Friday, 9 November 2018 16:42 (five years ago) link
That's categorically not true. Dee wheeling down the hospital corridor with her surrogate alone.
― I Never Promised You A Hose Harden (Eric H.), Friday, 9 November 2018 16:59 (five years ago) link
Frankly, it's the only thing that kept me coming back after roughly season 5.
that seems like a bizarre reading of this show (and that sequence in particular as well) to me but whatever
― Οὖτις, Friday, 9 November 2018 18:18 (five years ago) link
You only get so much mileage/goodwill on the premise of "these are the worst people in the world!" in my book.
― I Never Promised You A Hose Harden (Eric H.), Friday, 9 November 2018 18:35 (five years ago) link
there have always been some strangely touching musical moments in the show, even if they're often undercut with jokes (unlike this one). I thought the dance scene was moving and i'm glad they played it straight.
vulture had a great article about the preparation that went into that scene and Rob McElhenney's absurd commitment to his work: https://www.vulture.com/2018/11/its-always-sunny-mac-dance-season-13-finale.html

I guess I wasn't impressed with the dance sequence since I generally find modern dance totally ridiculous/boring but yknow ymmv

The #metoo and prius episode the following week were awesome. I generally enjoyed the whole season even if it wasn’t laughs all the time.

Mac no longer having tattoos has been distracting.
favs this season were metoo and escape room I think

mac, dee and dennis are looking too healthy and rich. Only Charlie and Frank are keeping the dirtbag vibe going.

the latest was a bad season with a single, truly canonic episode as a finaleROI definitely getting dicey tho

― Pierrot with a thousand farces (wins), Tuesday, 8 January 2019 23:21 (five years ago) link
I like that they’re out of the holding pattern of eternal post-David Seinfeld they seemed to be getting into, where it’s literally all callbacks
― Pierrot with a thousand farces (wins), Tuesday, 8 January 2019 23:23 (five years ago) link
Except the Wade Boggs airplane episode redux.
― love craptually (Eric H.), Wednesday, 9 January 2019 00:02 (five years ago) link

The Waiter would now be in the list of side characters poll if done again.
'The Gang Chokes' and 'Dee Day' where both pretty good and tie back well into previous episodes if you are a fan.
