I've seen/read some savage takedowns of it recently, but I haven't watched BABY'S DAY OUT since I was a kid and boy, me and my sister rented that on the regular and watched it maybe 30 times. So I voted for it.

I did a lot of work to get this under fifty options

Be honest, you went with the lowest-rated films on IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes, didn't you?

Of the few movies on this list I have seen, several of them were because my then-boyfriend wanted to rent them. That's not THE reason he's my ex, but it certainly didn't weigh in his favor.

a bottom-50 from any site would be way less aesthetically coherent than this list

I actually did scour through lists of films in compiling this hand-picked list. Never underestimate my commitment to a completely ridiculous endeavor that most reasonable people would consider a waste of time and energy.

what could be more romantic than a candlelit viewing of a well-worn vhs copy of cool as ice xxp

xpost Recognition of the effort it takes to be so consistently exhausting makes it all worthwhile.

Poor fuckin’ Ebert probably saw all of these.

I will grant that the presence of Grodin (who's in at least a few of these things) might elevate a movie which would otherwise be a pile of irredeemable garbage.

(Almost completely off the topic at hand because it's a fantastic movie, but I'd say that Grodin's role in The Great Muppet Caper is among the top five comic performances of the '80s.)

Fun fact about Freejack: among its cast is tenor saxophonist/composer George Coleman, former sideperson for Miles Davis, Max Roach, Jimmy Smith, and many others.

You just made me think way too much about what the plot of Mr. Doubtfire might entail. Thank you very much.

best movie of the 90s imo

I guess we actually did split off into an alternate timeline after all.

we live in a timeline where Dollman vs. Demonic Toys is real, but Mr. Doubtfire is not.

voted Freejack, which I haven't seen, because that bit where Estevez slams his in-car video-call closed but it pops open again for 1 second so Jagger can laugh at him is better than any 1-second bit in Performance

I don't know if I could ever watch Freejack because for some reason whenever I think of it I think of

It's unfair, I know, but I would be disappointed to discover that his Freejack character didn't berate the poor for being lazy.
