Neil Hannon at the NPL last night in Glasgow. He was standing outside having a fag, and I was all "ooh, that guy looks really like Neil Hannon" until someone pointed out to me that it was Neil Hannon. He was sitting at the same table as Stuart Murdoch and a couple of ILXors.

Julia Stiles out on Friday night, not dancing to my friend's enjoyable electro set.

Ex-NME journo turned football pundit and media mogul Stuart Cosgrove at Kokuryo, Argyle Street on Saturday night.

Were you in Glasgow? (or is your eyesight just really good)

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 30 October 2006 13:59 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes! And my eyesight is terrible.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 30 October 2006 14:03 (seventeen years ago) link

I saw Stuart Cosgrove somewhere quite recently, but I can't remember where. That's not much use, is it?

Glasgow must be teeming with celeb-types, and I never see any of them. I did see Rab Douglas out doing his shopping once.

I was tempted to go up to him and ask him about Mark S. But thought he'd probably think I was a bit of a sad case, which would sadly be true.

You should have asked him if himself and Tam really do nick their banter from the Scottish Football Predictions thread on here.

I think I saw Don Letts in Fopp a couple of weeks ago.

An uncomfortable-looking Natalie Portman being shoved through a Saturday night/Sunday morning clubbing crowd at 2am over the weekend.

Double sighting at the Grove over the weekend...
- Jennifer Tilly (who is roughly 230% more attractive in real life than she is on camera)
- Evan Handler (Harry from Sex And The City)

Philip Glass buying garlic bread at pizza place on second avenue around 9:30 pm last night!!!!

I see Don Letts quite a lot. He lives in my part of NW London -see him, his wife and kid strolling through a small local park on Sunday afternoons. He wears a lot of Stussy and has one of those big woolly hats for his dreads.

Harry Hamlin was on my flight do DC two weeks ago. Upon reporting this to my friends, saying "You know...Harry Hamlin...the guy from LA Law that wasn't Corbin Bernsen," I was scolded with "No. He was Perseus. He killed Medusa and the Kraken, and then rode away on Pegasus."

I just saw Lily Cole on Charlotte Street. And you know, she isn't too thin, she just has a teenager body. She looks pretty healthy.

He was standing outside having a fag, and I was all "ooh, that guy looks really like Neil Hannon" until someone pointed out to me that it was Neil Hannon.

I did this to Simon Amstell at a party. Except I was talking to him without the faintest idea who he was and then managed to slur 'That's it! You look just like that Simon Amstell off Popworld!' Lauren was with me and equally drunk and popped up and shouted 'You're the Eight Out Of Ten Cats dude!' at him. He moved away.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 9 November 2006 16:24 (seventeen years ago) link

I saw Simon Amstell waiting for a bus on New Oxford Street - he was probably going to the same cool party that Anna and Lauren were at, and thus by this post you can tell what sort of life I lead compared to Anna's glam life - HEIGH HO!! Anyway I tried to take a sneaky photo but mostly just got his t-shirt and a mass of hair. Pfft.

And who is Lily Cole anyway - I am wary of googling female slebs anymore, have I mentioned I hate the internet recently?

Bhumibol Adulyadej (Lucretia My Reflection), Thursday, 9 November 2006 16:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Lily Cole is a young model type who kept getting mentioned in the great 'Are Models Too Thin?' debate. (Yes, what is there to debate, yes)

I know I've repeated this on ILx before (perhaps upthread) but it's still funny. Houston movie theater, see tall, bald man all in black, companion says, jokingly, 'look it's Billy Corgan, haha.' Of course, man turns around and is Billy Corgan, doh.

I once stood outside the Barrowlands in Glasgow after a Smashing Pumpkins gig as one of those dodgy blokes who sell cheap and nasty knock-off Tshirt tried to flog James Iha a bootleg Pumpkins Tshirt to the amusement of the gathered crowd, refusing to give up even when Iha pointed himself out on the picture on the Tshirt. I was pleasantly surprised Iha gave him the time of day, let alone not punch the fuck out of him for trying to undercut his merchandising profits by flogging Tshirts for ten quid less then you could buy them in the gig.

This one was just ... weird: Chris Connelly, formerly of MTV News and apparently now of ESPN, wandering in front of my house and looking confused.

(Celeb sightings in my immediate neighborhood are always thrillingly minor, especially now that Julia Stiles is gone: my favorite is still seeing one of the guys from Chromeo over and over and wondering if I'd ever see him with the other guy from Chromeo, and then one day seeing the two of them driving together in a tiny Volkswagen full of moving boxes.)

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 9 November 2006 19:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, I forgot two fairly rubbish sightings in the last month: Carluccio outside Carluccio's on Neal Street and George Wylie in the Collins Gallery in Glagow. And today I sent an email to Tony Benn without realising it, and he replied!

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 9 November 2006 19:21 (seventeen years ago) link

That is good, about Tony Benn.

Yes, Don Letts was wearing his hat. I like Don Letts.

It is about time I saw some more celebs.

Was it the bus stop outside Argos, Starry? I need to get some context.

Paul Daniels in Dublin airport. He was coming out of arrivals at the same time as a bunch of other expensively-dressed guys, who all looked like they might be on their way to a poker game or something.

DOG the bounty hunter and his wife @ costco. We were eyeing the selections in the fish department at the same time. Contents of DOG's cart: One Weight Watcher's bathroom scale.

(this hardly counts since its the second time ive seen him and the 3rd time ive seen his wife.)

and the first time you've seen that scale!

s1ocki, Monday, 12 March 2007 05:47 (seventeen years ago) link

sorry, i know that doesn't even make any sense but the situation seemed to call out for a punchline like that.

how about...

"and the first time you've ever seen a scale!"

can we do a re-do?

s1ocki, Monday, 12 March 2007 05:48 (seventeen years ago) link

maybe a punchline about fish?

I thought I saw Trent Raznor in Streatham this morning. And did a double take thinking, what on EARTH would he be doing in Streatham? But then Tim Windmill told me that apparently loads of Merkin bands (especially ones playing at the Academy) go down to Streatham to score dope. So go figure. Still no idea if it was actually him or not. He was certainly *short* enough.

boris johnson (sorry kaet!) again, this morning at 9.30 on rosebery ave by exmouth market. i was on the 38 facing backwards, he was on his bike and he and the bus had to stop at the same time. he was wearing a red woolly hat and i couldn't help giggling, he looked up and saw me and smiled sheepishly.

A friend saw Amy Winehouse on the 134, sitting at the back singing one of her own songs to herself really loudly.

this makes me SO SO HAPPY.
