Kinda thin-skinned for someone in his line of work, and his response is not really funny either . But Lorne apparently likes both he and Jost, so they have nothing to worry about

I agree, but you gotta factor in the opportunity cost of who's not there/what you're missing
― rip van wanko, Saturday, 20 April 2019 20:50 (five years ago) link
That should be more of a factor when deciding whether or not to watch Saturday Night Live, rather than when deciding who should be on Saturday Night Live.

wtf Jost is easily the best cast member besides McKinnon rn, not saying much but I like his watered down Norm MacDonald schtick fine. now I will read this article... "sucking off stray dogs" is a good line tbh

TS: Worst Scarlett Johansson decision: Ghost in the Shell or dating Colin Jost.
― Yerac, Saturday, 20 April 2019 22:01 (five years ago) link
Hyden coming back to Jost and Johansson dating again and again in that article is really lame, but he's clearly a fan of his show (his baseball club is otm and how I feel about SNL, albeit as a much more casual fan/observer). Can't say I disagree with much else, I didn't know Jost was an Ivy League boy, that changes things considerably imo.

I saw a bunch of Ghost In The Shell on Hulu. It wasn't nearly as terrible as the cultural appropriation outrage police made it out to be. I hold her working with Woody Allen three times against her way more than GitS.

also I think it's weird that anyone is so strongly anti-Che/Jost, they're about average when it comes to being shit at Weekend Update
Chevy Chase made his SNL bones a host of Weekend Update and he was pretty bad, too.
― A is for (Aimless), Sunday, 21 April 2019 02:53 (five years ago) link
The smug preppy asshole is a dependable comic persona, and while I don't think that Colin Jost is its best current practitioner (that'd be Anthony Jeselnik), he plays the part pretty well, and I enjoy him (and Che) on Update most of the time.

― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 2 May 2019 19:56 (five years ago) link
It suddenly occurred to me how many SNL cast members of that era became afaict prominent Hollywood Republicans. Victoria Jackson, Dennis Miller, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Adam Sandler, even GE Smith, if his appearance at the RNC convention was anything to go on.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 2 May 2019 20:40 (five years ago) link
i think Lovitz, too?
and you hate to hear it, but Norm's been on twitter stanning Jordan Peterson and Megan McCain. it's possible he's doing a bit, but i really don't think so.

― findom haddie (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 2 May 2019 20:48 (five years ago) link
wow -- i had no idea so many of these people were right-leaning (victoria jackson yes, but all of them? yikes!)
there is no "bit" funny enough to make stanning for jordan peterson and megan mccain amusing

are they? "most white people their age"? is it really that bad?
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Thursday, 2 May 2019 20:51 (five years ago) link
i think i know the answer i just feel horrified at the thought
norm is the biggest bummer but i take comfort in the fact that i haven't found him funny in years. so maybe his dipshit (srsly fucking Peterson?!?) conservatism sucked the comedy out of him. lovitz was the only other one on that list who's made me chuckle since like 1996 so eh whatevs.
now mike judge otoh :-(

not me, I still think Norm is funny and I liked his Netflix show
I give him a bit of a pass because he's pretty open about calling his views 'underdeveloped' and he avoids getting political in his comedy, but yeah it's kind of shitty. Should've figured as soon as I saw stuff like this
Scripture. Faith. Grace. Christ, Glory of God. Smart man says nothing is a miracle. I say everything is.— Norm Macdonald (@normmacdonald) October 31, 2017

brainworms don't care how fully developed your views are
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Thursday, 2 May 2019 21:40 (five years ago) link
I think you can add Dana Carvey to that list too
didn't know about Sandler, all I can see is he donated once to Rudy Guiliani? I don't know if he's a "prominent Hollywood Republican" in the same way as say, Dennis Miller
btw these guys are right about one thing, SNL should stop making everything about Trump because it's not really funny or clever and treating him like a cartoon character (who you were more than happy to have on as a host) only normalizes this piece of shit further

That Clothes/Holes thing was one of the worst songs they have ever done.
I really liked Romano Tours and Rectix. I'm surprised no one had done a rectix type sketch before.
When the pic of Shawn Mendez popped up before the performance I thought it was a glam shot of Colin Jost.

Mike Judge is, afaict, sort of a libertarian like the South Park guys, but I'm pretty confident that neither of them is remotely pro Trump or necessarily even Republican. Doesn't necessarily make anything better, but it could be worse.
― Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 5 May 2019 16:39 (five years ago) link
Norm has always been a reactionary! He is funny though.
― :∵·∴·∵: (crüt), Sunday, 5 May 2019 16:54 (five years ago) link
Norm thinks George Will is an intellectual lol
Rectix was kinda funny--the medical disclaimer that included "may change the power dynamic in your relationship" was a nice touch--and the Snapchat bit was a funny premise that they blew once they let the Sandler and Bennett characters in on the joke, but this was purely one of those "lets indulge a former cast member" episodes.

that's fair. he def seems like a "free speech" guy, but apparently he was liking a bunch of Ben Shapiro tweets last fall. which, fucking gross. but hey he's multi-millionaire white guy from texas in his 50s so i guess i shouldn't be shocked.

My junior year in high school we took a choir trip to a festival in Chicago and one of the outings was a night out at Second City. It was very enjoyable/hilarious but I made a particular note of two ridiculously funny cast members in the hope that I'd one day see their names pop up again and I could say "I saw them back when"
The next year, Tim Meadows and Chris Farley were both SNL cast members. I saw them back when.
― Arugula Raccoon (DJP), Sunday, 5 May 2019 21:53 (five years ago) link
The Wrigley Field security guards sketch! I saw that cast, too!
It was funny because you'd see Second City, make note of the hilarious cast members, and then a few weeks later on Chicago TV it'd be, "Hey, there's that hilarious guy Steve Carell...in...a Brown's Chicken ad...?" or "Cool, it's Tim Meadows!...in a McDonald's commercial?" Obviously they needed whatever work they could get, but it was odd to see these hilarious performers play it straight in commercials.
