giboyojimbo (skowly), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:22 (seventeen years ago) link

reading this makes me hungry.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:31 (seventeen years ago) link

God I want to eat barbecue in Texas again.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:34 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh man, Smoque! I heard a raving reccomendation of that place from a guy who knows his food. I am generally distrustful of places with trendily-spelled names like that, but it sounds super great. Smoque for brisket, Honey 1 for teh pork... TIME TO GET FATT

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:36 (seventeen years ago) link

I think the last thing I had in Chicago that called itself barbecue was at Smoke Daddy. That place is bullshit. When your brisket doesn't have a smoke ring in in any bigger than the thickness of your toenail and your pulled pork is actually chopped and maimed pork, you can just fuck right off.

(Have I ranted about this before? I can never keep track.)

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes, but you're right, that place blows.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:38 (seventeen years ago) link

hi Chicago!

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Hiya

Chicago (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:41 (seventeen years ago) link

Kenan:

10 GOTO "HONEY 1"
20 END

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:42 (seventeen years ago) link

What was the place that had a kiosk at Intonation last year that served, oh my god, THE BEST pulled pork sandwich I've ever had? I can't remember the name of the place, but I would go out of my way for it if I could. I have had dreams about that sandwich. I'm not even kidding.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:42 (seventeen years ago) link

now I am hungry for brisket+Lancashire cheese+iced coffee. none of which I have at hand.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:43 (seventeen years ago) link

i like smoke daddy because it is within walking distance of my house. a bowl of chili and a burger at smoke daddy followed by drinks at gold star is a favorite mellow friday.

i can't wait to go back to memphis in 2 weeks because it means a trip here.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:43 (seventeen years ago) link

I want all that, too. And a side of macaroni and cheese. And beer.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Why do you keep going to Memphis, Kevin? Or am I confused due to your jet setting lifestyle?

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:45 (seventeen years ago) link

Bring a drink of water Leroy, bring a drink of water no
If I could get to the mercy man, he'd give me some I know
I got a gal in Vickburg, Bertha is her name
Lord I Wish I was tied to Bertha, instead of this ball and chain
I'm goin' to Memphis, mhm
I'm goin' to Memphis

But like a bitter weed I'm a bad seed but when that levee's thru and I am too
Let the honky tonk roll on, come mornin' I'll be gone
I'm goin' to Memphis
Well I've never been to Chicago but it must be a mighty fine place
I couldn't get past Tennessee with Mississippi all over my face
I'm goin' to Memphis, mmm
I'm goin' to Memphis

Just like a bitter weed I'm a bad seed but when that levee's thru and I am too
Let the honky tonk roll on, come mornin' I'll be gone
I'm goin' to Memphis

Well I brought me a little water in a Mr. Prince Albert can
But the bossman caught me drinkin' it and I believe he broke my hand, hmm
Another boy is down the shovel burned him out
Let me stand on his body, to see what the shoutin's about
I'm goin' to Memphis, mhm
I'm goin' to Memphis, mhm

Like a bitter weed I'm a bad seed but when that levee's thru and I am too
Let the honky tonk roll on, come mornin' I'll be gone
I'm goin' to Memphis yeah
Memphis bound
I'm goin' to Memphis, mhm, hmm

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:46 (seventeen years ago) link

with Mississippi all over my face

???

Mississippi bukkake?

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:47 (seventeen years ago) link

some friends are playing down there and i have like 60,000 airline miles and i haven't been down there in a while. so add all that up plus the fact that two of the best record stores in the world are there and it takes very little to get me to go.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:48 (seventeen years ago) link

xpost Hahaha, I dunno, but I guess one shouldn't really trust random internet sites for Johnny Cash lyrics.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, maybe he's writing from the perspective of a black man?

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:49 (seventeen years ago) link

a bowl of chili and a burger at smoke daddy

That sounds fine. Just don't bother with the barbecue.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Maybe he's so obviously a southerner that it's written all over his face and he can't travel outside of the south and be taken seriously.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:51 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm a jackass bigot, Jenny is right.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:52 (seventeen years ago) link

maybe he passed out at a frat party.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Dan, yr not a jackballs bigot. Yours is a reasonable interpretation, too.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Enh, I know... just a knee-jerk response to the chain gang/bossman bit.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:01 (seventeen years ago) link

honey 1 was pretty ace when i went there last winter. zero ambience is almost always an indicator of heavenly ambrosia or cheap horrible shit.

OTM. see also, new pot, oak park, il.

Similarly, Tank Noodle on Argyle.

and a lot of the curry joints over here

underwater ghost ship picture (skowly), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:10 (seventeen years ago) link

ab exercises: crunches are better than situps. for a while i had washboard abs from doing crunches, obliques, and reverse crunches: 10 of each, every day. i was also skinny at the time.

situps/crunches don't build up muscle to make your stomach stick out more, that's a myth. the muscles become harder and stronger rather than bulking up like other muscles can.

this exercise info coming to you from a formerly-fit person who is currently stuffing herself with bacon.

Juulia (julesbdules), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:10 (seventeen years ago) link

^^^^ DID YOU GUYS KNOW I'M IN ENGLAND

underwater ghost ship picture (skowly), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:11 (seventeen years ago) link

now i want stuffing and bacon.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:12 (seventeen years ago) link

NO. What are you doing in England? Have you seen Amanda around anywhere?

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:13 (seventeen years ago) link

i am visiting my family, and have been doing since xmas. here until the 12th.

underwater ghost ship picture (skowly), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:14 (seventeen years ago) link

WAHT, WHERE IS ENGERLAND AGAIN?

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:15 (seventeen years ago) link

i haven't seen amanda, though i have seen a bunch of bad haircuts, tracksuits and crooked teeth.

underwater ghost ship picture (skowly), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:15 (seventeen years ago) link

CHEERIO, PIP PIP

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Otto is OTM about iced coffee at home. I did this after New Year's day, i.e. when I made a ton of coffee in expectation of having friends over and then lapsed into the hangover negative zone.

I like doing crunches/oblique stuff. It makes me feel like I could take a body punch.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Evan that is cool!

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey, thanks! I'm going to London in about 4 days, which will be fun.

And by fun, I mean really fucking expensive.

underwater ghost ship picture (skowly), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:25 (seventeen years ago) link

though i have seen a bunch of bad haircuts, tracksuits and crooked teeth

wait, are you in england or the ukrainian village?

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:25 (seventeen years ago) link

HEY-O!

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:27 (seventeen years ago) link

this exercise info coming to you from a formerly-fit person who is currently stuffing herself with bacon.

AWESOME.

And you're a formerly fit person who then got way too skinny, and should really fatten up a bit. I think you're on the right track. :)

OMG the socks and tights that I ordered with my Christmas money have arrived!!! I am going to go home and put all of them on.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:38 (seventeen years ago) link

I do that every time!

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:39 (seventeen years ago) link

zero ambience is almost always an indicator of heavenly ambrosia

Zero ambience + powerful smoky bbq smell = yes.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:39 (seventeen years ago) link

That may be a big problem with Smoke Daddy, actually -- it's decorated like a TGI Fridays. And everything costs $9.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Right after Honey 1 opened I walked past there over into Bucktown and the alleys and streets for about a block and a half all around were cloudy with smoke from the place. The yuppies were pissed.

Also Kenan, they have the "Texas style" spicy sausages. I'm such a huge fan of this place it's ridiculous. It's so good and the owners are so nice.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:43 (seventeen years ago) link

oooo socks and tights--what do they look like? i was so excited to see my roommie wearing stuff i'd gotten her from sock dreams for xmas. i now totally adore that website, even though i rarely even wear socks myself.

Juulia (julesbdules), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:43 (seventeen years ago) link

There are few things in the world more cozy than brand spankin' new socks. Actually, I'm at a loss to think of anything more cozy.
