Narita ftw
I will be at both Narita and Haneda on friday.
― American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Wednesday, 21 August 2019 09:50 (five years ago) link
i'd take haneda over narita any day but i've had to use narita already twice this month for the tokyo to beijing through incheon flight (and tokyo to xi'an through incheon).
incheon has jamba juice and quiznos which is novel coming from japan

I have the misfortune of landing at Narita and flying out of Haneda, no biggie, just 2 hours on the Keisei and Keikyu thinking about what to get for lunch.
― American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Wednesday, 21 August 2019 20:46 (five years ago) link
dylannn OTM. Narita is only convenient if you have in-laws in Chibaken.
I'd even take KIX over NRT.

when i went to japan last month i flew into haneda and was impressed with how quickly everyone was processed through customs and was still treated with more dignity there than by cbp in the us.

I’m thinking my flight tomorrow is one where I’ll go through US customs in Canada, which always seems a little funny but whatever it took a lot longer to buy my bus pass at trudeau/montreal than it did to go through canadian customs!

had my first experience using global entry last week, was glad I got it, it made US customs a lot less painful
― Dan S, Sunday, 25 August 2019 21:35 (five years ago) link
i went throigh us customs yesterdaygranted 5 planes unloaded at the same time but still - we had 4, wait no he left so 3, oop he left now too so make that 2 inspectors operating for half the entire hall ... stood in that godawful room for 90 minutes before passing throughassclownsalso they’ve overhauled every nook & cranny of that airport EXCEPT for the customs area. except for the passport kiosks it’s exactly the same as it was in 2002 when i immigrated. hated it then, hate it now

At Toronto en route to Montreal from Glasgow and seem to have developed a new allergy and am sneezing like crazy
― Seany's too Dyche to mention (jim in vancouver), Friday, 27 September 2019 20:16 (five years ago) link
the allergy is probably to airports

middle of the country has one of the worst seasonal allergy peaks I've experienced in recent yearshopefully it'll be much better in montreal!
― mh, Friday, 27 September 2019 20:19 (five years ago) link
I got tested for allergies recently and only reacted to tree and grass pollen (which should be done by now). Confounding and v annoying.

I was in Montreal a month or so back and while I was gone, ragweed season started back home. Getting off the plane was an instant sneezing thing

I think I was delayed something like fourteen hours for a flight from Chicago to Des Moines once. It was “just another 45 minutes!” up until there were no more flights for the day and we were bumped to 8am

Sitting by a window overlooking a runway. A plane takes off. Older Scottish man and I turn to look at it at the same time. “Off you go, my son,” the man mutters at the plane with quiet enjoyment.

Glasgow airport - fuck your bus stands! Only one of them clearly labelled and the rest not visible from outside the airport. Also a fella sent me in the wrong direction.

How have I spent a night sleeping upright in metal chairs in the domestic St Petersburg terminal, and yet this is still the coldest airport I’ve ever been in my life?

^^ some new inspiration for the perfume thread perchance!
― Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 2 February 2020 12:00 (four years ago) link
I’d generally say I would never stoop to wearing perfume found at airports but I am passing through Doha so perhaps they have the good stuff.
I’m going to Bali and afaik there have been no cases of coronavirus at all in Indonesia so far but two thirds of the conference attendees are from Australia and the rest are from various parts of Asia so there is probably a perceived risk much stronger than any actual risk.

On my way to the airport. I'm wondering how apocalyptic it'll be.
― romanesque architect (pomenitul), Friday, 13 March 2020 06:38 (four years ago) link
Feel you might be disappointed if the airports here are anything to go by these days. Unless you really sense the coming apocalypse in everything being near-empty and eerily quiet? But do share if everything's ablaze (and pick a nice bm record to accompany the scene)! Bon chance, man.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 13 March 2020 08:02 (four years ago) link
Thanks! I'll find out in a few minutes… But yeah, it's way likelier to be a whimper rather than a bang, as ever. With a bit of luck our plane will empty a swell.
