Sarah, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Hm, I'd borrow mine and tape it if I were you. No way is it worth sixteen quid... shd only have been ten top whack on that reissue...

Tim, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

three months pass...
Maybe people should post links to their Amazon wishlists.

OK. Today is all about wanting things. May 1st.

If there's anything on my wishlist that people think is bad tell me here.

N., Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

K-blimey I didn't see that offer Tim. Is it still standing? I didn't get it after all. 15.99 UKP? Pffff.

Sarah, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

you asked

("n.": sandman is terrible don't get it)

ethan, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Ethan, I really want to think of something for you to design in exchange for CDs but I can't think of anything. If I start up by blog again you can design a look for that, maybe. Just a banner and background, I mean.

Sandman was Chris's recommendation. FITE!

N., Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

i'm surprised you don't have role model already ethan. have you heard the dismemberment plan cut up he does? really really good.

gareth, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I thought it was Tiny Tim (dickens not j. mascis lookalike).

Nicole, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

This is the first bad thing I've heard about Sandman but I don't know, having never read any. I like most of Neil Gaiman's other stuff. My choir teacher keeps saying he'll lend me the comics but NEVER DOES, but he will, oh yes he will.

Maria, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Sandman is rubbish, there you go, a second thing.

Tom, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Sandman is not rubbish. The ILX Comic Mafia can come down on me however they'd like; they're WRONG. Before "The Deadly Ones", it's very, very good. Skip that "Deadly Ones" stuff, though.

David Raposa, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I should have guessed my first evah (potential) comic book purchase would cause such a stink.

N., Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Even the ILX Comics Mafia split on this one cos I think the Dirty Vicar still likes it.

If you do want to get a Sandman book dont get the Doll's House - it pretends to be a complete story but it's mostly gibberish, though it has Gaiman's usual mixture of cute short-story concepts and Goth sentimentality. You might be better off with a short story collection - the one which has the Arabian Nights issue in at least has nice art. The best book is A Game Of You, which actually does tell a story, hardly has the Sandman in it at all (hooray!) and manages to capture something of the magic in the concepts its writing about (Gaiman's take on children's lit in this case).

Tom, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Forget about this Sandman shit - any got any comments on anything else in my wishlist?

N., Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

icbyd possibly rdj's best album?

ethan, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Yeah - Irma Thomas = nice call.

Ellie, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Irma Thomas is indeed cool, but 'The Complete Muscle Shoals Sessions' is prob. a better selection (unless you really really need 'Ruler Of My Heart').

And yes, the Sandman is shit.

Andrew L, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

My Birthday's almost here! ( sniff) January 19! I'm going to be 54

Gale Deslongchamps, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Who's for making January 19th No Swearing Day on ILE, then?

(You can make my birthday Extra Swearing Day if you want to make up for it, I dont mind)

Tom, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Mine is the same week as yours Tom so maybe some swearing extravaganza could take place.

Ronan, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

that is if one doesn't take place everyday anyway.

Ronan, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

My birthday is January 18 (ie, FRIDAY). My wish list is here if you are so moved.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Sorry, I meant HERE.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

the Death mini series was cool! 4 months til I'm 26. Oh.

jel, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Dan I'd buy Daft Punk for you if I had the money to give someone the joy of hearing it for the first time presuming you haven't heard it already.

I remember the first time I heard it......sigh. It was fantastic.

Ronan, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

ronan it's on my list too!

ethan, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

If I win the lottery you can both have it. Right now all I have to my name is 80 euro. that could buy you both it but then I'd have no money for going out. ever. I have it on tape if you really want a copy.

Ronan, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

You know, I don't think I've actually heard the entire album yet. "One More Time", "Digital Love", "Faster Harder...", and "Aerodynamic" I've definitely heard, but nothing else (to my knowledge).

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I have Pause too. Actually to be honest I bought it for about 5 pounds and I never listen to it so if you perform sexual favours you can have it. er I'll think of something.

Ronan, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Sarah, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Do you think there's a chance that random admirers will start sending us these items à la the cam girls?

N., Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

No.

Tom, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Nick, you cheeky bugger, I recommended the shoe to you! it's rather good, if a little too referential for some tastes, but lots of people talking about music in it, and some funny bits too.

chris, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Oops - sorry, Chris. If you recommended it in person I am sorry. I made a note of it ages and ages ago when someone mentioned it on Sinister and I was sufficiently convinced to think 'maybe I'll read that'. If it was you then I didn't know you at the time.

Tom, he who laughs last laughs longest (although everyone's usually left by that point, making it a somewhat Pyrrhic victory)

N., Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

oop, I may have just jumped to a wrong conclusion, I thought it was recently, so I fear it may have been cookie, although I may well have mentioned it on Sinister too.

Anyways you can borrow my copy if you want, it's only thin so it doesn't take long to read.

chris, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link
