The only way to save ILX is to let gabbneb and chaki back, just in time for the 200,000th thread, and then lock them into it by threadbanning them from every other thread in the past AND future, and then TARDIS SOUND EFFECT weβll be okay until esby gets out of hand again

i've been planning a So Solid thread for weeks now
― the Swedish taboo (Noodle Vague), Friday, 24 January 2020 13:56 (four years ago) link
you could put it up now and grab the prestigious 199,951st thread position. you could also go for #200K but that involves a physical fight

At what time, according to your calculations Mr. Malone, will the 200,000st thread be posted? (please factor in NV either creating or not creating that So Solid thread tyvm)
― Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 24 January 2020 16:10 (four years ago) link
can't do the So Solid until there's 21 threads to go
― GK Chessington's World of Adventure (Noodle Vague), Friday, 24 January 2020 16:13 (four years ago) link
Someone do a poll for every year between 1990 and 2019.
That'll get us there
― ... that's Traore! (Neanderthal), Friday, 24 January 2020 16:15 (four years ago) link
On it. What should we poll tho?

At what time, according to your calculations Mr. Malone, will the 200,000st thread be posted?
some scholars say that the only true order in the universe is disorder. what caused the big bang? some rando, probably, in other words.
these scholars created https://www.random.org/clock-times/
according to those calculations: it will be one of these five times:
01:2001:5007:5016:3023:00
― But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!π (Karl Malone), Friday, 24 January 2020 16:29 (four years ago) link
so is ilx's expansion slowing down or continuing to accelerate?
― GK Chessington's World of Adventure (Noodle Vague), Friday, 24 January 2020 16:31 (four years ago) link
Both.
― pomenitul, Friday, 24 January 2020 16:32 (four years ago) link
what time zone, though? the scholars are one step ahead of you. according to the time zone institute, these are the options: https://www.timeanddate.com/time/current-number-time-zones.html
using leaked tools from random.org, i came up with these 5 numbers between -12 and +14:
-10 -11 -10 0 -9
that corresponds with:
UTC -10 small region of USA and 2 more HST HonoluluUTC -11 American Samoa and 2 more NUT AlofiUTC -10 small region of USA and 2 more HST HonoluluUTC +0 United Kingdom and 24 more GMT LondonUTC -9 Alaska/USA and regions of French Polynesia AKST Anchorage

no need to thank for me for all this information i've put together - just go ahead and add it to your stochastic models and plan accordingly

got a horrible feeling thread 200,000 will end up being some poll about the best bassist in an early 90s midwest indie band or something
― GK Chessington's World of Adventure (Noodle Vague), Friday, 24 January 2020 16:37 (four years ago) link
wait - 2 of the 5 rando time zones were honololu. that means honolulu came up TWICE as much as American Samoa, London, and Anchorage, and infinitely more times than the time zones that weren't selected at all.
that means that the time zone must be UTC -10, Honolulu time. let's go ahead and memorialize this breakthrough:
the 200,000th thread will be posted at 01:20, 01:50, 07:50, 16:30, or 23:00, Honolulu Time, Saturday, February 1st.

uh, they've both "been back" for a while -- pretty sure me and Shakey and a few others spent about an hour discussing bagels and brunch spots in SF w/chaki a few years ago ... so maybe this momentous thread is some t.s. eliot hollow men thing where it's a bunch of former "ilx bad boiz" amiably discussing bougie restaurants in gentrified cities

As of February 2013, ILX is hosted on a server (paid for by board users) in Canada. Running costs are paid by yearly funding drives.
Currently, the board is about to celebrate its 200,000th thread. However, debate has emerged to ascertain whether this count is accurate, as there is speculation that this excludes deleted threads, as well as threads counted on the temporary board.
Other posters have noted that the count may be suspect due to the repeated recoding of the site. The site has put its 200,000th thread celebration on hold until it can figure this out.

at 200,000!
and here is my argument: we're not celebrating the exact passing of 200,000 years. we are celebrating a big dumb round number. and that big dumb round number is 200,000, not 200,001
