I meant applauding him in support of his racism!

It's a deranged and expensive thing to do even for straight up Nazis clubbing together.

More to the point what plane company agreed to fly that banner in the first place?

Matt DC, Monday, 22 June 2020 19:59 (four years ago) link

The Lancashire Luftwaffe.

On the subject of dropping points, I see Spurs are going with Aurier / Dier / Sanchez / Davies again.

This is absolute bollocks and I hate watching it. At no point when we get the ball do I ever think that something might happen.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 20:04 (four years ago) link

lol my stream froze AS the ball was played to Son there and I said to myself 'if he scores this is getting VARred by half a foot'

so did it prove

i think that for kane is probably, all things considered, the softest yellow card i've ever seen

imago, Tuesday, 23 June 2020 20:28 (four years ago) link

lol, was just about to say I was looking forward to seeing which side would make the defensive error to break the deadlock.

Kane!

We've looked much better since Bergwijn and Lamela came on.

I thought Spurs looked pretty good for the last 40 minutes, or so. The problem, at least since Eriksen lost form / left, has been they're completely incapable of breaking down a team committed to defending. They're reduced, for the most part, to hopeful Aurier crosses and shooting from outside the box. When they game gets stretched, they're far more dangerous.

Many West Ham fans seem to believe that their club is going down.

the pinefox, Wednesday, 24 June 2020 12:25 (four years ago) link

Luckily for West Ham fans Bournemouth are probably worse, but I'm not sure Villa are.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 June 2020 12:53 (four years ago) link

Villa West Ham is the final game. Could be tasty but Villa have quite a few tough matches before then

chonky floof (groovypanda), Wednesday, 24 June 2020 13:02 (four years ago) link

This would surely be the best squad to get relegated in the PL era?

How long is Haller out for?

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Wednesday, 24 June 2020 13:10 (four years ago) link

Surely not?

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 June 2020 13:16 (four years ago) link

West Ham 02-03 was probably the best squad I can remember going down but that was mostly in light of what they went on to do elsewhere.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 June 2020 13:19 (four years ago) link

Carrick, Defoe, Cole, etc yes but there were three Scott Mintos for every Frederic Kanoute. On paper, the current squad looks very solid from front to back.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Wednesday, 24 June 2020 13:26 (four years ago) link

fulham last season is surely a good shout for that

imago, Wednesday, 24 June 2020 13:41 (four years ago) link

That Fulham team was one of the worst defences I can remember watching in the PL though.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 June 2020 13:56 (four years ago) link

Current West Ham side is solid enough but completely devoid of ideas or creativity, even before Moyes.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 June 2020 13:58 (four years ago) link

yeah if they go down - still feel maybe not - it'll be purely because Moyes hasn't got his head around the fact that you need to win sometimes

never mind that shit, here comes scampo (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 24 June 2020 14:01 (four years ago) link

That's the weird thing. Ogbonna, Diop and Fredericks will probably end up at better clubs than West Ham if they do go down, they're protected by Soucek and Rice, who are both usually excellent, and they've somehow managed to concede more goals than anyone apart from Villa and Norwich.

West Ham have some great, creative players as well - they're just not performing, or not set up to perform.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Wednesday, 24 June 2020 14:05 (four years ago) link

they maybe had two proper chances against us - at home, mind - on Saturday, and seemed set up to do nothing more than stop us

never mind that shit, here comes scampo (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 24 June 2020 14:10 (four years ago) link

i feel like Moyes mayn't be the most inspiring presence either

never mind that shit, here comes scampo (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 24 June 2020 14:17 (four years ago) link

Are they that great creatively? Fornals hasn't really adapted to English football yet despite a flash here or there just before the lockdown. Antonio, Snodgrass and Lanzini can all be very good but are also all very injury-prone, same with Yarmolenko, the less said about Wilshere the better. It's not exactly a squad you can rely on.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 June 2020 14:31 (four years ago) link

Yarmolenko, Antonio and Anderson are all good creative players. I think Lanzini and Fornals could do well at another club. The common theme is that the underlying quality is there but none of it actually works in practice on the pitch.
