Lol, Applebaum's response to the report is we need go to the EU and say we've made a mistake and beg them to take us back. That would be a fun 2nd ref.

just having a little laugh at this

Reading through the Russia Report today. I prefer takes delivered after studying a document, rather than after skimming the executive summary.

We’re giving them a pay rise. pic.twitter.com/DkcEbXZiD7

The list of 'external expert witnesses' is amazing.

Applebaum, Bill Browder, Edward Lucas, the dude from the Institute of Statecraft, Christopher Steele and...that's it.

The intelligence community is being raked over the coals for not taking the threat seriously enough for the liking of a band of absolute goons.

Although it's redacted, i think it's pretty obvious that they're being accused of focusing almost exclusively on China instead.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 21 July 2020 16:10 (three years ago) link

if you are wanting an impartial expert to give opinions on modern Russia you are perhaps better off not listening to someone with a history of extreme western chauvinism and a Scruton apologist and someone's whose history books are basically no better than the publishing wing of the victims of communism foundation .

calzino, Tuesday, 21 July 2020 16:41 (three years ago) link

oh dear Scampi is trending, but alas not the food - it's a deceased cat!

calzino, Tuesday, 21 July 2020 16:48 (three years ago) link

Should be Scampo, surely. Anyway it’s not Scampi, it’s Kevin (who is a girl). 😞

destroy this fucking party

This kind of focus slides the party back into the New Labour ASBO moral panic direction by the way. Looking to extend criminalisation of teenagers based on the argument that they’re undermining public standards of civility https://t.co/hHqZrdBmbk

— Jase (@jasebyjason) July 21, 2020

don't know anything about kevin the cat, but as much as I moan about the bloodthirstiness of cats and them constantly shitting in my garden and murdering birds at my feeding station. Earlier I saw a sparrowhawk with a small bird in its talons, screaming in agony as it flew over my head into a garden. And it gave me a proper fuck you and mind your own business look when I peered over the hedge to see it finishing the poor bird off on the grass. But still this was a magnificent creature!

calzino, Tuesday, 21 July 2020 22:58 (three years ago) link

I wish some bird of prey would swoop down + npick up Nandy and peck out her eyes and drop her from 90 feet high onto Sir Kier

christ that Duffield thing about overcriminalising nitrus oxide ought to embarrass Starmer, but the law + order cop loving tory prick probably agrees. The type of wankers his leadership has emboldened are beyond contempt, this isn't even milliband labour it's more like a particularly horrible 2001 vintage of blairism. I wish there was an opposition party, because this shower are an embarrassment.

calzino, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 08:25 (three years ago) link

The decision to leave the European Union can no longer be regarded as valid or legitimate we must now delay our departure & hold a fresh referendum!

— Barry Sheerman MP (@BarrySheerman) July 22, 2020

but regardless of party leadership this risible cunt has been the same for over 40 years now, christ I can still remember meeting this contemptible prick in 1979 and he's still there!

Duffield is appalling but a lot of the commentary on this is a massive stretch, tbh.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:13 (three years ago) link

tbh I've never done nitrus oxide and don't know much about it. Just hate arsehole grandstanding pols getting on their high horses about recreational drugs and trying to make dubious arguments about the environmental benefits of criminalising another recreational drug and sounding like a moron!

calzino, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:21 (three years ago) link

a moral panic over fucking laughing gas, hasn't she got anything better to do?

calzino, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:23 (three years ago) link

Duffield is awful, yes, also first elected and then re-elected under Corbyn...it's all very Labour Party.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:25 (three years ago) link

Legislation on nitrous oxide might be the kinda of thing left for MPs to do. They can't stop NHS sell-off, nor scrutinise trade deals..

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:29 (three years ago) link

It's stupid but the kind of thing MPs do when they're getting a lot of complaints (mostly about littering aiui) from constituents. Positioning it as 'she wants to criminalise non-white youths' when she's a) in a very white, very student-heavy area and b) not in favour of criminalising possession or use, is an over-reach. She's just proposing restrictions on sale to over-25s.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:31 (three years ago) link

I'd support making 18 the boundary for absolutely everything as the weird half-adult status ppl occupy in their early 20s wrt pay and, under the imaginary duffield order, nos, is an unjust nonsense

rumpy riser (ogmor), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:38 (three years ago) link

lol the idea of being underage for something at 24 is ridic

calzino, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:42 (three years ago) link

I don't mind people overreaching with dubious arguments to dunk a fucking clown like her, it's all she deserves!

calzino, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:44 (three years ago) link

Yeah the race angle is weird here, it may be different in other parts of the country but in my experience this is an overwhelmingly white middle class thing. TBH handing balloons out to be inhaled is not an especially sensible thing to be doing in a pandemic but no worse than a lot of stuff that teenagers are doing right now.

100% this is about the litter really. It's otherwise basically harmless as far as I know.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:46 (three years ago) link

Positioning it as 'she wants to criminalise non-white youths'

Who is doing that?

Sonny Shamrock (Tom D.), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:48 (three years ago) link

i don't think it's particularly or exclusively a middle class thing

rumpy riser (ogmor), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:49 (three years ago) link

Squirrel in a hat on Twitter.

Goes without saying the cunt banging on about Asian gangs wouldn't be doing it if they weren't tagging in Ash Sarkar.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:49 (three years ago) link

i always presumed those canisters you sometimes see in the park were vaping related.

calzino, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:50 (three years ago) link

Is Canterbury in East London now?

Sonny Shamrock (Tom D.), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:51 (three years ago) link

Oh right, some stupid cunt on Twitter, the bread and butter of the ILX UK politics thread.

Sonny Shamrock (Tom D.), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:52 (three years ago) link

Yeah see too many of these canisters around the park and surrounding streets - doesn't bother my more than any other litter although litter brings out my inner Tory more than most things tbh. People just tossing their masks on the ground mid-journey also seems to be happening way more than you might expect.

nashwan, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:54 (three years ago) link

I don't know, I think they're more pleasing to the eye than most litter.

Sonny Shamrock (Tom D.), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:55 (three years ago) link

... the canisters not the masks.

Sonny Shamrock (Tom D.), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:55 (three years ago) link

À la recherche du scamps perdu (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:56 (three years ago) link

the cannisters make a good sound when wheels ping them across the tarmac

rumpy riser (ogmor), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:57 (three years ago) link

The ease with which the youth can buy dogs is a real environmental issue too

À la recherche du scamps perdu (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:57 (three years ago) link

I don't moan about litter and sometimes wang the odd empty can into tories hedges myself, but was very irate when I had wrestle a shitty nappy out of my dog's mouth because he thought playing for keeps is a fun game, that's where i draw the line.

calzino, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 09:58 (three years ago) link

rumpy riser (ogmor), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 10:00 (three years ago) link

There's no point moaning about litter in London, you just have to accept that the place looks like a tip and always will. Dependant on which borough you live in, of course.

Big Baby Nitrous

À la recherche du scamps perdu (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 10:01 (three years ago) link

Like a lot of picturesque hippyish towns Canterbury has quite a serious drug problem under the surface, you'd find all sorts of shit in the area around the Westgate, including the bit in the park along the river that clueless property supplements sold as a picnic spot. Would have thought that canisters would have been the least of their problems really.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 10:03 (three years ago) link

let's face it people that moan about litter during a global pandemic and an incoming depression of the like not seen since the 30's are too bourgeois and need to stfu.
