This already failed last spring when she was running for election in the European constituency that contained Warrington. Her views on Gary Glitter, on the other hand?

Lots of white men telling dawn butler that being pulled over by the police is nothing to be worried by...

koogs, Sunday, 9 August 2020 20:18 (three years ago) link

The Metropolitan Police said in a statement that an officer had "incorrectly entered the registration into a police computer which identified the car as registered to an address in Yorkshire.

News reports just trotting this out as if it's a reasonable explanation. So they just type the registration of every car they see driven by black people?

nashwan, Sunday, 9 August 2020 22:38 (three years ago) link

why would they pull over a car for being registered in Yorkshire?

I heard some guy got killed in Yorkshire and they never solved the case. But you wouldn't know anything about that now, would you, Dawn?

Anti-Cop Ponceortium (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 10 August 2020 09:32 (three years ago) link

This bad treatment of Dawn Butler can be added to the shocking treatment that she has already received, and for which she really needs ... police protection?

People talk a lot about 'mental health' nowadays, usually meaning Prince William talking about going for a jog. But if anyone is having their 'mental health' damaged surely it is someone who is threatened every day by members of the public and then victimised by the state that is supposed to protect her. It must be very difficult for her to know where to turn.

the pinefox, Monday, 10 August 2020 10:01 (three years ago) link

luckily her party leader is taking a strong public stance to protect her

Boris Johnson has said the police should treat people with "fairness and equality" after Labour MP Dawn Butler accused Scotland Yard officers of racially profiling her https://t.co/IEh4q759zt

Even Corbyn has been quiet about this :(

nashwan, Monday, 10 August 2020 12:46 (three years ago) link

I can understand Corbyn is reticent about commenting on anything right now as it plays like he's trying to undermine Starmer. At this point though he might as well say "fuck it" and go ahead.

It’s actually understood that past leaders will not criticise their predecessor so Corbyn can’t really do this, he is very much not like that. So idk.

Completely understand why this was so upsetting. I take allegations of racial profiling very seriously & welcome @DawnButlerBrent taking her concerns up with senior Met officers.

Gibb's being pressed on the use of mock exam grades being unfair as different schools do different mocks, marking is unstandardised and subjective, different standards of security apply, etc, etc, and the response is basically 'yep'.

It's interesting to see the volume of attention this is getting now vs the tiny blip of coverage you had when the decision to cancel exams was made and BAME MPs were highlighting the historically biased nature of predicted grades.
