Mueller Deputy Andrew Weissman now on MSNBC: “This is really serious. This is not a bit of hidden income. There are allegations that Eric Trump and the Trump Organization did not report $100 million in income. And that’s just one allegation.“

That's fair, if anyone deserves the benefit of the doubt, it Trump and his family.

9 years pass....

"and news today that after the initial trump organization case rose all the way to the state supreme court and then passed back down to a circuit court and then appealed back up to the second highest court, then stayed and revived and sustained and rejected and demoted and then puffed up a little with mysterious drugs with names that look like social security numbers, the allegations against eric trump jr have been dropped"

I think this stretches back to at least Michael Cohen's arrest.

Permanent name change? Subtle dynasty start so nobody notices. Used to be an elective role now going to be in the family so to honour tradition we thought we'd honour it.
Hope not.

Former White House Press Secretary wrote in her book—"Speaking for Myself: Faith, Freedom, and the Fight of Our Lives Inside the Trump White House"—that Trump told her the video for 'November Rain' was "the greatest music video of all time" and made her watch it with him in the Oval Office to prove his point, though she "didn't disagree."

I was going to ask if this was 100% a new accuser, or more in-depth reporting on an existing one. I'm assuming the former, but I've lost track.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 17 September 2020 19:32 (three years ago) link

This is a new accusation as far as I can tell.

It still astounds me that absolutely fuck all happens with these mountains of accusations. But hey, at least we booted Al Franken out of public life for good for that tasteless photo!

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 17 September 2020 19:44 (three years ago) link

Not that Franken didn't deserve some sort of pushback for that shit either, just infuriating that nothing sticks to this fuckin' guy.

Well, you see, Donnie is not only a rich and powerful man, he is also famous for his good looks, which have always made the ladies swoon. As he effortlessly leaps from lily pad to lily pad, some lilies inevitably get jealous and band together in order to take down the Don Juan who promised them the moon only to leave them all in the dust. These things always boil down to liberal resentment, you see, so don't you believe a word of what these chicks are saying.

His figure, and the splendour of his dress,
Of which some gilded remnants still were seen,
Drew all eyes on him, giving them to guess
He was above the vulgar by his mien;
And then, though pale, he was so very handsome

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 18 September 2020 22:09 (three years ago) link

he got booed by some randos near the supreme court today. apparently it was only like the 5th time he's had to endure this humiliation:

On Thursday morning, we saw one of the rare exceptions. Trump and first lady Melania Trump visited the Supreme Court to pay their respects to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Supreme Court justice who died last week. When Trump emerged from the building, within view of the assembled crowd, a rumble of opposition emerged. Soon, it became a chant: “Vote him out.” Trump was probably thankful that, for once, he was wearing a mask; no reaction was visible on his face.

Other incidents in which he’s faced public opprobrium can be counted on one hand: boos at his inauguration, boos at a Nationals baseball game last year and, again, at a UFC event a few days later, and, unusually, boos after disparaging the press at an international summit in Switzerland in 2018. Beyond that, opposition manifested directly to Trump’s face is rare precisely because he rarely gets his face in front of hostile critics.

It’s tricky to overstate the extent to which Trump generally operates in a sphere where criticism is limited or rare. The White House has been largely purged of people who are willing to buck Trump, by his own design. His travel heavily skews toward either his private properties — where the other people have paid to be in his presence — or to campaign rallies crowded with supporters. During his trips to and from those appearances, he can often see critics along the side of the road, people bearing signs or elevating particular fingers to make their feelings known. But the car simply zips past them.

Karl Malone, Friday, 25 September 2020 02:24 (three years ago) link

Yeah, I saw somewhere that this was the first time since January he'd been in public at something that wasn't a rally or some other event honoring him (ie. with a controlled audience).

"...And the Gods Socially Distanced" (C. Grisso/McCain), Friday, 25 September 2020 05:16 (three years ago) link

that time that he had public servants beat up citizens and throw priests out of a church so he could do a photo op was technically an event honouring him by the time he walked outside I guess

erratic wolf angular guitarist (sic), Friday, 25 September 2020 07:42 (three years ago) link

Has there been any broad public appearance he's made where he hasn't been booed?

i DEEPLY wish that the phrase "and the time he got within 500 ft of karl malone, who immediately screamed 'FUUUUUUCK YOOOOOOOOOOUUU!!' at the top of his lungs before escaping down an alleyway while blasting an air horn" could be added to that sentence though

Karl Malone, Friday, 25 September 2020 14:53 (three years ago) link

I wonder if his death will eventually be celebrated as a sort of unofficial national holiday, with impromptu fireworks, pinatas, parties ... like, Don't Be An Asshole Day.

I don’t think he has given even one second of thought to his own death. It wouldn’t surprise me if he doesn’t have a will.

Boring, Maryland, Friday, 25 September 2020 16:08 (three years ago) link

there's a song called "When Will You Die?" by They Might be Giants that, if it was released today, would immediately be assumed to be about Donald Trump

I'm so tired
Of your lies
And the evil things
You're doing behind my back

Are there crimes
That you have never committed?
I doubt it, sometimes I wonder
When will you die?

You're insane
You are bad
You wreck everything you touch
And you're a sociopath

But there's one thing
That everyone's wondering
When will you die?

frogbs, Friday, 25 September 2020 16:14 (three years ago) link

lol, he probably has a dedicated team doing constant sweeps making sure a mysterious nerve agent doesn't get within 50 feet of him.
