the Brown Alumni Magazine without fail contributes to feelings of inadequacy and insignificance. It's kinda like women's magazines that make you feel unattractive.

no my cousin is "successful" :/

seriously - the last issue featured a story about an attractive blond woman who predicted the financial crisis.

but max you are successful, at being rad

Modern Culture and Media, though you could major in Art-Semiotics, which I wasn't cool enough to do, because I was intimidated by having to take a studio art class and art history, because there were a lot of other students that had art history classes in high school, and I went to crappy public school that didn't.

the main dude in that band that did that gym equipment video that everyone was so keen on a few years back was in a class with me ... he was kinda arrogant and douchey. But then again, he was 19 or 20, so I don't want to make permanent judgments about the guy.

My first roommate in Chicago, who I found through the classifieds, was in a sign-language class with Laura Linney at Brown in the early 80s, said she was very sweet [/suzy]

I was in a screenwriting class with one of those gawkermedia guys, and his screenplay idea was pretty lame, but he seemed like a decent guy.
― incomprehensible Kool-Aid swallower (sarahel), Tuesday, 7 July 2009 22:12 (fifteen years ago) link
wait, never mind, I'm confusing him with someone else. I think he was in that class, but I don't remember what his screenplay was about.

I like the acrostics. I get really bummed when they don't have acrostics, and I've read about all the overachievers, and there isn't an acrostic to make me feel marginally better about myself.

Your alumni mag has acrostics??
― tokyo rosemary, Tuesday, 7 July 2009 22:57 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah ... most of the time. I don't think there was one in the financial-crisis-predicting-attractive-blond-woman issue.
― incomprehensible Kool-Aid swallower (sarahel), Tuesday, 7 July 2009 22:59 (fifteen years ago) link
hahahahahaha TINY TINY WORLD
I love when bizarre stuff like that happens (something similar involving friends of friends came up at a party on Friday in SF).
Sarahel I avoid the alumni magazine conundrum by vaguely noting the arrival of each new UCLA issue and then instantly recycling it.
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 7 July 2009 23:21 (fifteen years ago) link
I end up reading the thing, because some of the articles are interesting, and also to see if anyone I disliked has died.

lol
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 7 July 2009 23:24 (fifteen years ago) link
probably by the time they die, I'll have forgotten I disliked them and only have a vague recollection of who they were. I'm just interested in the obituary euphemisms and omissions. I almost sent in a fake obituary for myself at one point.
