It really does suck to see play out once again, but it sure seems like a fair number of people are absolutely gobsmacked to find out that the government and Wall Street would circle their wagons to prop up the broken capitalist system that ensures only the "right" people get rich.

For what? Because billions of dollars went from one hedge fund from another?
― Van Horn Street, Thursday, 28 January 2021 23:06 (three years ago) link
Yeah, part of this is inevitable which is why I originally got into my positions, but if there is more interference like today then who knows.

The narrative that Robinhood stopping GME is some big wall street conspiracy against the little guy is some sort silicon-valley elon musk utopianism bullshit.
― Van Horn Street, Thursday, January 28, 2021 3:49 PM (two hours ago)
do you do ANY posts that aren't smarmy neolib concern trolling bullshit?
― k3vin k., Thursday, 28 January 2021 23:35 (three years ago) link
Being concerned that billionaires are going to make extra billions out of a bunch of redditors about to lose their shirts because they were basically tricked into using something like Robinhood isn't exactly a very neolib stance.
― Van Horn Street, Thursday, 28 January 2021 23:39 (three years ago) link
I just make the case this is not the populist battle of the regular little guy vs the villain hedge funds some people are trying to make it to be. Are hedge funds generally evil? Yes, and a lot of them got much richer yesterday.
My position wrt to hedge funds is that they should be regulating into non-existence. I know people who lost thousands of dollars this morning because of this shit show and I'm angry the casino won, again.

BlackRock made 3 billion with the surge but surely, this is a big win for Main Street and the little guy and eat the rich fuck and Hedge Funds, etc.
― Van Horn Street, Thursday, 28 January 2021 23:45 (three years ago) link
I'm basically calling for further consumer protection from hedge funds and shit like Robinhood. Tell me how does it square with a neolib view?
― Van Horn Street, Thursday, 28 January 2021 23:46 (three years ago) link
It’s “concern trolling” to say things that differ from tweets Kevin likes.

This person explains it better than I ever will:
One of the more funny/sad/tragic parts of this GameStop activity is the misplaced sense of populism.People really think they're busting Wall Street, and sticking it to The Man.No.Wall Street is profiting immensely, and the Man is getting much richer, thanks to you.— Steven I. I was saying to a hoos on twitter that it'd certainly be Interesting if this episode led (say) several million index investors who sock cash into their vanguard Roths and don't touch it (like yrs truly) to consider investing instead in a somewhat less diverse basket of stocks that are basically picked on the basis of "is this a normal company that people understand and that isn't involved in petroleum extraction?"Like can you bolster the enterprises that despite capitalism actually do matter to people's lives and the cities they live in? AMC is a big dumb chain but big dumb chains are a good place to see big dumb movies― Canon in Deez (silby), Thursday, January 28, 2021 1:34 PM (six hours ago) bookmarkflaglink
