Laguna Seca
Is this actually in a city?
― Waterloo Subset (Tom D.), Thursday, 11 February 2021 18:43 (three years ago) link
I checked with your mom and she said that yes it is.
― lord of the ting tings (map), Thursday, 11 February 2021 18:47 (three years ago) link
Yours said it isn't.
― Waterloo Subset (Tom D.), Thursday, 11 February 2021 18:47 (three years ago) link
Yes Tom Dombadilly, Laguna Seca is in Monterey, CA, USA.

Not Singapore.

the sign says "BOUISI" so somewhere that was formerly part of french indochina. it just seems like that region to me.

I figured it was Indonesia but no real clue where, dropped in Surabaya and saw similar roofs straightaway, but finding the actual building was tougher
― cherry blossom, Friday, 12 February 2021 20:45 (three years ago) link
Correct!
― Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Friday, 12 February 2021 20:46 (three years ago) link
I was clear on it being Indonesia and found the similar buildings and all, but then I thought the same thing with thinking Windhoek was in Cyprus and that I'd found the right building in Limassol
― cherry blossom, Friday, 12 February 2021 20:52 (three years ago) link
gah, what a missed opportunity! thought it might be a police car, but couldn’t quite read how exactly the word was spelled here, and then fixated on that street lamp pole, which looked so familiar, but I couldn’t get it through googling. never occurred to me those red shapes could be letters. “polisi” would have been such a dead giveaway. damn you, low resolution!

Monday
― cherry blossom, Monday, 15 February 2021 15:06 (three years ago) link
That looks so much like Toronto, that style of high school underpass mural. Can't place it, or the red trusses, though
― flamboyant goon tie included, Monday, 15 February 2021 15:30 (three years ago) link
I'm deeply tempted to say Philadelphia, but I don't know that mural and can't find anything about it on the local mural sites. The buildings toward the center-right look deeply eastern US seaboard to me, or at least east of the Mississippi.
― The return of our beloved potatoes (the table is the table), Monday, 15 February 2021 15:30 (three years ago) link
I *really* think it's Philadelphia, in the "I feel like I've driven by that mural on the way to the airport" sense. Does on the way to the airport give a clue?
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 15 February 2021 16:24 (three years ago) link
The foliage does place it around Philly, to my eyes... slightly too verdant for Toronto
― flamboyant goon tie included, Monday, 15 February 2021 16:25 (three years ago) link
it's not on the way to the airport
― The return of our beloved potatoes (the table is the table), Monday, 15 February 2021 16:26 (three years ago) link
oh well
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 15 February 2021 16:31 (three years ago) link
Those buildings could rly be anywhere influenced by edwardian architecture
― scampsite (darraghmac), Monday, 15 February 2021 16:35 (three years ago) link
i can understand where you'd get that, though, eephus— of the several routes one can take to the Philly airport, one of them requires the driver to stop at a light near a bridge with a mural that has similar vibe. That mural, however, is nowhere near any hills, or within sight of a residential neighborhood, and doesn't feature a red bridge, but some sort of old school concrete/stone amalgam...

welp I just exhausted 5 minutes of various permutations of search terms:
red orange steel art deco rail truss trestle underpass overpass mural
― Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Monday, 15 February 2021 18:04 (three years ago) link
The part of the mural under the bridge depicts a cityscape which maybe represents the city this is? Maaaaaaybe Chicago? There's one building in front which seems to have a diagonal front face like that tower in Chicago that has that.
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 15 February 2021 19:26 (three years ago) link
Chicago railroad underpasses tend to be concrete in my experience.
― Mosholu Porkway (Boring, Maryland), Monday, 15 February 2021 20:29 (three years ago) link
it reminds me so much of one neighbourhood in montreal but like if four different parts of the neighbourhood were kinda patched together like in a dream

That stop light is interesting -- only two lights and they're both red (or is one orange?).
― doctor johnson (askance johnson), Tuesday, 16 February 2021 19:26 (three years ago) link
I know of one similar one-lane-wide underpass that has a 2-way light (red & blinking-yellow once triggered).

@Will I was also thinking it could be Canada.... but East Van or West Windsor?
― Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Tuesday, 16 February 2021 20:02 (three years ago) link
Looks like it could be in New Jersey.
― o. nate, Tuesday, 16 February 2021 23:01 (three years ago) link
xp. definitely not east van
― Dusty Benelux (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 16 February 2021 23:02 (three years ago) link
I think it’s just a yellow blinking light, the kind that are used as a warning of a possible obstruction.

Mural shows this is a place with palm trees along the shore (unless it's a mural depicting a completely different place, which just seems too mean of cherry blossom)
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Wednesday, 17 February 2021 18:21 (three years ago) link
I don't know. The vegetation across the road there looks like it comes from a very different climate. The mural seems to depict some place in the Middle East, but everything else looks very Eastern US to me.

is that a pool? sign reads something like "stairs could be slippery"?
― Dinsdale, Wednesday, 17 February 2021 19:31 (three years ago) link
Looks like a cable stayed bridge in the first picture's mural, but that led me nowhere.
― bulb after bulb, Wednesday, 17 February 2021 19:37 (three years ago) link
stairs closed
and isn't that an elevated train station?
― rob, Wednesday, 17 February 2021 19:38 (three years ago) link
it's Upham's Corner train station in Boston
― Dinsdale, Wednesday, 17 February 2021 19:55 (three years ago) link
thanks to rob's hint
It's not *technically* a reverse angle, it's around the corner (the cherrypicker is partially obscuring the right side of the mural/ivy from pic 1).
Definitely a smallish train station, the tracks in pic 1 lead into this building.
