He's *only* 80, but I was actively surprised when I found out that Pharaoh Sanders is still alive, maybe because he made so many albums in the 60s and 70s that I always assumed he was much older.

Chris Barber, who has just died at the age of 90, also cannot believe he was that young, he was an old fogie in the 50s, surely?

Eric Heidsieck, 84. The second French pianist (after Yves Nat) to record all of Beethoven's piano sonatas. I'm listening to his superb Fauré Nocturnes now. He's a relative, somehow or other, of the Heidsieck family of Piper-Heidsieck champagne fame. This seems to be the first time he has ever been mentioned on ILX.
