Reports are that Feige expects COVID to keep fucking up working situations in the US for several years, with Black Panther 2 lined up, and Captain Marvel 2, Guardians 3, and possibly already-in-production Dr Strange (which shut down last month as hospitals in the UK became overwhelmed) being eyed to, move to Sydney after Thour For.

Looks like the thinking is that standing production and crews would stay bubbled on the Disney+ shows in Atlanta, but the film company would essentially set up in Australia, where it's safer to fly stars in and out to work. Chris Pratt is in Sydney now to film as Star-Lord in Love And Thunder (and presumably visit the paedophile-founded-and-protecting, album-chart-defrauding home church of his grifter org in the Hills), and Matt Damon was given special rich cunt permission to quarantine at Chris Hemsworth's house instead of being forced to pay for a hotel like citizens who can afford to return home in the first place.

Since 73 years remain on the free* lease that the state government gave to Rupert for the 27ha (32 acres) of public land that the studio stand on, and Disney acquired that lease when buying Fox, this might help make future Marvel movies profitable.

*actually he was given $25 million in bribes of taxpayer money to take it.

NO. FUCK OFF. I am sick of the govt letting popstars/moviestars/politicians come and go with no quarantine and protection, how can they allow this.

They're allowed to quarantine at Chris Hemsworth's house! No problem.

it's settled, everyone who travels to australia gets to quarantine with a different member of the hemsworth fam.

a hemsworth in every pot!

There's a new version of Name That Tune, or so I have been told. They wanted a live studio audience, and it was easier to fly everyone involved to Australia, have them quarantine and do it there, then find a way to do it here.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 23 February 2021 23:08 (three years ago) link

I think it’s filmed using American expats who were already there.

I can't even tell if you're joking, but that's so silly it's probably true. They definitely flew over the hosts and band and I assume crew. I heard the host interviewed and she said she was given a hotel room with no keycard. She asked what was stopping her or anyone from leaving, and they said nothing ... but they wouldn't be able to get back in.

"RuPaul's Drag Race Australia" taped in New Zealand for extra safety. (They're changing the title to "Drag Race Down Under" for broadcast, which is obv better in several ways.)

Meantime further on the content farm, via Feige's TCA presentation just now:

They're wrapping Ms. Marvel. Hawkeye is shooting. She-Hulk is prepping to start and MoonKnight will follow. #TCA21

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 24 February 2021 18:15 (three years ago) link

As for the current series

A question if the MCU considered using Aaron Taylor-Johnson instead of Evan Peters in WandaVision. Feige does not answer the implied question, merely saying the choice was made "early." #TCA21

— AniVision (@anibundel) February 24, 2021

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 24 February 2021 18:15 (three years ago) link

And I was wondering about this

God bless the person who just asked about Season 2s for these D+ series (which was my question.) Feige says they're going to follow the story, but there are second seasons in the works for "some" series already. #TCA21

I'm psyched for the Hawkeye series... I've been re-reading the Kate Bishop books. Love the character; hope she is brought to screen in a somewhat faithful manner to how she was developed/portrayed by Kelly Thompson (and Matt Fraction before that).

Fraction's Hawkeye series is one of my favorite books ever

Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Wednesday, 24 February 2021 18:33 (three years ago) link

Hmmm.

Feige continues to insist the movies will not need anyone to have seen the Disney+ shows and vice versa. #TCA21

— AniVision (@anibundel) February 24, 2021

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 24 February 2021 18:39 (three years ago) link

And a couple more details

He does say that some shows are being built to be more open to future seasons, which WandaVision was not. It was built to go direct to big screen #TCA21

— AniVision (@anibundel) February 24, 2021

Feige gets asked if there an attempt to get the Netflix characters back under the control of the MCU.
He suggest the rumors of rights to characters online are wrong (he means Daredevil), but "maybe someday". #TCA21

Lynch gets a mention in this interview with WandaVision’s DP:

What were some of your outside inspirations — David Lynch? “Pleasantville”?

Aesthetically, there were obviously some connections there [to “Pleasantville”]. But, I’ve always been a huge Lynch fan, and Lynch combined with “The Twilight Zone” was sort of the feeling that I wanted to get with the unease that was created when this sort of “Pleasantville” bubble of sitcom discomfort was disrupted. It was Lynchian, it was dark, it was disconcerting and a little bit more cinematic. I looked at a lot of “The Twilight Zone” as well. I enjoyed the tone they struck in earlier episodes.

lol @ Pleasantville. definitely a closer reference than Lynch

I sure am glad I'm watching this as it airs because the entire internet just seems to have dispensed with the notion of spoilers wrt this show. I mean I think I've already seen a spoiler image for the episode I won't get around to watching until tonight.

Ha, I clicked on this thread by habit, forgetting there was a new ep already, but ilx is reasonably good about spoilers. I've learned I just need to stay off Twitter completely though, since no amount of muting stops people absolutely intent on spoiling the show. As you say, not sure how you can just mute specific images for a show you haven't seen yet!

Re: Morbius, I'm frankly shocked that one of Sony's (non-Venom) dumbass Spidey-adjacent projects actually made it to completion. I doubt that even most Marvel fans care enough about Morbius (a character that hasn't even been featured in the actual comics much over the past decade or two beyond a very brief solo series) to give a shit that he's getting his own movie.

I was kinda disappointed by this episode... I mean, at least the revelation that Wanda did actually (though unknowingly) create the simulation means that there'll be no Mephisto, but everything else is straight from the comics: Abnett & Lanning's miniseries (Wanda as the Nexus Being) + Byrne's West Coast Avengers (Wanda's kids aren't real and she goes koo-koo from the loss and becomes a villain) + Avengers Dissassembled/House of M (Wanda goes koo-koo again and creates an illusionary world where nothing bad happened). They even gave us Byrne's pale-skinned, emotionless Vision, for chrissakes! I was hoping this story to be a bit more imaginative and less derivative, but everything that happened here was pretty much what people had speculated before the series even began.

The only thing I liked was that Agnes/Agatha turned out to be more interesting than what the previous episodes twist made us think. She probably isn't even a villain rather than anti-hero, and she sought out Wanda because she suspected Wanda might be the Scarlet Witch/Nexus Being, which means she's a danger to the world and needs to be contained, or at least taught how to properly control her powers. So Agatha may become her mentor like she was in the comics after all.

Tuomas, Friday, 26 February 2021 20:43 (three years ago) link

yeah, I don't think she's going to be a Big Bad, which is good....

Red Nerussi (Neanderthal), Friday, 26 February 2021 20:44 (three years ago) link

yo this episode is lit

Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Friday, 26 February 2021 21:03 (three years ago) link

Hmm, well, I guess this episode answered a few questions, but its main point seemed to bringing Wanda the character more in line with her comic book counterpart.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 February 2021 21:39 (three years ago) link

I have always liked the Byrne and Bendis versions of Wanda so I have no objection to her selfishly enslaving the town’s citizens. The way the story is going does seem to suggest her kids are imaginary, or at least created by her magic rather than being “real”

I am using your worlds, Friday, 26 February 2021 21:48 (three years ago) link

I am using your worlds, Friday, 26 February 2021 21:48 (three years ago) link

Yeah, and the whole backstory behind all this is so dumb. The only reason movie Wanda wasn't a mutant witch to begin with was because Marvel Studios didn't have the rights to use the mutants in movies. And now that they've reacquired the mutants, they spend a big part of this series just to retcon Age of Ultron so that she always was a mutant and always had the powers of her comic book counterpart.

Tuomas, Friday, 26 February 2021 22:21 (three years ago) link

Not a mutant, just a boring ol' witch.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 February 2021 22:25 (three years ago) link

How did her brother get powers, though?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 February 2021 22:25 (three years ago) link

Presumably they're both mutants, like in the comics. Wanda was born with chaos magic and Pietro with super speed.

Tuomas, Friday, 26 February 2021 22:34 (three years ago) link

And the Mind Stone just awakened/enhanced those powers.
