Oslo?

calzino, Thursday, 11 March 2021 14:40 (three years ago) link

I think Oslo is flatter than that

StanM, Thursday, 11 March 2021 14:56 (three years ago) link

First thought is it looks like a lake somewhere in the mountains, possibly in Asia or South America.

o. nate, Thursday, 11 March 2021 15:02 (three years ago) link

sorry about "Bosom Manor" folks!

map ca. 1890 (map), Thursday, 11 March 2021 15:23 (three years ago) link

I support the bosom manor meme strongly in all its forms

Marry and Neghim (darraghmac), Thursday, 11 March 2021 15:25 (three years ago) link

I also took absolutely minus zero offence from it.

calzino, Thursday, 11 March 2021 15:26 (three years ago) link

Bosom Manor was coined by silby, iirc, to make fun of the endless churn of tv & film born out of nostalgia for the British aristocracy (your Downton Abbeys etc.), not to mock British-isms.

I can’t claim credit I just ran it into the ground

Canon in Deez (silby), Thursday, 11 March 2021 16:17 (three years ago) link

for a second I wanted to say Vancouver, but no.

Also, taking offense at "Bosom Manor" is absurd, it has nothing to do with "lol foreigners," it has to do with Brits on this board being like "oh this person played the hilarious maid in a show that was on for one year in the 70s for which I'm nostalgic" and USAmericans being like "y'all crazy"

it's incredibly funny, too, makes me smile every time i read it.

I fell way behind on this thread but the latest pic reminds me of KL. Where is our Malaysian contingent?

(or Singapore?)

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Thursday, 11 March 2021 16:40 (three years ago) link

xxp the Bosom Manor stuff isn't offensive at all (to me at least), just lame and unfunny, but then I might just be a humourless Brit so carry on!

tbf i did actually mean it as a sort of dig at how many photos of samey british flats we've been seeing lately itt but the same criticism could be leveled at any country's cities for the most part.

map ca. 1890 (map), Thursday, 11 March 2021 17:05 (three years ago) link

Lol funny foreigners ban not a great fit for brits tbh imo

Happens a lot on ILX does it?

Wrote For Lunch (Tom D.), Thursday, 11 March 2021 17:20 (three years ago) link

Bosom Manor is quite amusing but not really fitting for a row of 2 up 2 downs in Stoke I'd have thought.

Anyway, first thought here was somewhere mountainous like maybe Switzerland but I've checked the Lake Geneva cities and it doesn't appear to be any of them

or something, Thursday, 11 March 2021 17:41 (three years ago) link

it looks pacific to me, id guess asia

Sokcho, South Korea. After scouring almost every coastal city on the Asian Pacific. First guess was way off, kudos to the above for pointing in right direction

or something, Friday, 12 March 2021 00:47 (three years ago) link

I thought it was a lake so I spent some time looking at cities on lakes in Asia. For a little while I thought it might be Lake Suwa in Japan.

o. nate, Friday, 12 March 2021 02:15 (three years ago) link

Sokcho it is, or 가슴 매너 as it is known locally

I think I see an evergreen back there? reminds me of denver, but the terraced skyscraper in the bg isn't denver, i'm pretty sure. woman looks american to me. looks a little on the dry side as well. i would guess upper plains to start with but who knows, not much to go by.

Having some trouble but I'm 90% sure it's the River Walk district of "The Biggest Little City In The World".

The Silver Legacy* is pretty distinctive. I think it's the tallest building in Nevada?

reno sucks ass ftr

map ca. 1890 (map), Friday, 12 March 2021 18:17 (three years ago) link

i would rather go to stoke on trent than reno

map ca. 1890 (map), Friday, 12 March 2021 18:18 (three years ago) link

That's easy to say for someone who's never been to stoke-on-trent

or something, Friday, 12 March 2021 18:24 (three years ago) link

I was in Reno a year or so ago.. the gaming scene is definitely dying, killed off by California Indian casinos I imagine. There are empty ghost hotels, but you can still get the prime rib dinner (with beverage) for $8.99 at CalNeva.

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 12 March 2021 18:31 (three years ago) link

Reno still has charm if you are uninterested in gaming:

Lots of access to the backside of the Sierras (although a friend lost his leg a couple years back after an extremely terrible climbing fall), pretty amazing hot springs that are off the internet grid, uh... that's all I got.
