liveblogging about his symptoms after being injected with ivermectin is the biggest tell that this is completely fictional, and (as with fundraising for his conversion camp) he's just being extremely blatant about his grifts in order to only attract the most credulous of marks.

ok, fine. then here's a real one:
Caleb Wallace, head of ‘San Angelo Freedom Fighters’ to “end covid tyranny” is sedated on a ventilator. He has 3 kids and wife pregnant. He treated himself with ivermectin. a cursory search shows that there are actually some studies that indicate that the horse paste is possibly somewhat effective.
there are also studies that say it isn't.

xp it is indeed plausible that ivermectin is effective, in fact there are numerous trials involving it right now, unfortunately no large scale studies seem to support that conclusion, and most of the ones that show it to be effective wind up being flawed in fairly major ways. there is also the problem that ivermectin does not bind particularly well to cell proteins and you would probably need to take like 15x the recommended dose to prevent viral replication. regardless there appears to be a major grift involving this drug right now so its no surprise those favorable studies are popping up a lot
― frogbs, Wednesday, 1 September 2021 22:19 (two years ago) link

tbh i think it's lazy that journalists are now calling it "horse dewormer." it has people applications. you can even give it to your wild fox and raccoon friends. the point is not that it's a dewormer for animals. i just think it's funny because it reminds me of "toad's horse yogurt" ad on check it out with dr. steve brule.

Yeah I made the same point the other day that it’s like the “horse tranquilliser” hysteria around ketamine — one difference here tho is that many of these people are literally taking horse paste because doctors won’t prescribe ivermectin for covid, so they are going to vets, feed stores &c and buying medicine meant for livestock (apparently creating a shortage for those who actually need it for their animals)
― siffleur’s mom (wins), Thursday, 2 September 2021 07:12 (two years ago) link
The vast majority of recreational ketamine is cat/dog tranquiliser aiui, people just call it horse tranquiliser for the good and right reason that it's funnier.

I knew what ivermectin and levamisole were because in the early to mid-2010s, there was a big scare in San Francisco party circuits about cocaine cut with levamisole. There are...lots of bad side effects if you snort the stuff, apparently!

it's this kind of stuff that pisses me off the most about right-wing anti-vax celebrities getting covid and then surviving to tell their followers to double-down on anti-vax. from the last paragraphs of the washington post write-up:
On Wednesday, Rogan told his followers his diagnosis forced him to reschedule his upcoming show in Nashville until late October.“My apologies to everyone, obviously it’s nothing I can control. It is what it is, crazy times we’re living in,” he said. “But a wonderful heartfelt thank you to modern medicine for pulling me out of this so quickly and easily.”
“My apologies to everyone, obviously it’s nothing I can control. It is what it is, crazy times we’re living in,” he said. “But a wonderful heartfelt thank you to modern medicine for pulling me out of this so quickly and easily.”
would it trouble the writer too much to add a little note reminding readers that Joe Rogan has $100s of millions of dollars now and can afford the best treatment of all time? and that so many other people are just fucked?
― professional anti- (Karl Malone), Thursday, 2 September 2021 16:39 (two years ago) link
come on everyone, it's not that hard. just use your awesome health insurance to get the best treatment and then pay off the tens of thousands of dollars you still owe! don't put it on yr credit card ya dummies, pay it off with that giant stack of cash you have that you don't even have to think about! wait, you're not rich? bro. bro. did you put the $1200 stimulus into bitcoin like we all told you to do? have fun staying poor and dying from covid!!!
― professional anti- (Karl Malone), Thursday, 2 September 2021 16:41 (two years ago) link
The data on the monoclonal antibody treatments look pretty good so if Rogan is willing to stand up and say "I got the expensive cutting-edge treatment that Donald Trump and Greg Abbott got and I came through OK" instead of "no need for vaccination when ivermectin's right there in gallon tubes at the tackle shop" more power to him
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 2 September 2021 19:06 (two years ago) link
If he survives, I expect he won't be at all disingenuous about how + why he survived, and I'm sure his followers will be suddenly very sobered by the facts on the ground, and also monkeys are most likely going to fly out of my butt
