Yeah I made the same point the other day that it’s like the “horse tranquilliser” hysteria around ketamine — one difference here tho is that many of these people are literally taking horse paste because doctors won’t prescribe ivermectin for covid, so they are going to vets, feed stores &c and buying medicine meant for livestock (apparently creating a shortage for those who actually need it for their animals)

The vast majority of recreational ketamine is cat/dog tranquiliser aiui, people just call it horse tranquiliser for the good and right reason that it's funnier.

Funniness, and a large side order of ridicule, is the overriding reason for mentioning its equine usage.

I knew what ivermectin and levamisole were because in the early to mid-2010s, there was a big scare in San Francisco party circuits about cocaine cut with levamisole. There are...lots of bad side effects if you snort the stuff, apparently!

it's this kind of stuff that pisses me off the most about right-wing anti-vax celebrities getting covid and then surviving to tell their followers to double-down on anti-vax. from the last paragraphs of the washington post write-up:

come on everyone, it's not that hard. just use your awesome health insurance to get the best treatment and then pay off the tens of thousands of dollars you still owe! don't put it on yr credit card ya dummies, pay it off with that giant stack of cash you have that you don't even have to think about! wait, you're not rich? bro. bro. did you put the $1200 stimulus into bitcoin like we all told you to do? have fun staying poor and dying from covid!!!

The data on the monoclonal antibody treatments look pretty good so if Rogan is willing to stand up and say "I got the expensive cutting-edge treatment that Donald Trump and Greg Abbott got and I came through OK" instead of "no need for vaccination when ivermectin's right there in gallon tubes at the tackle shop" more power to him

If he survives, I expect he won't be at all disingenuous about how + why he survived, and I'm sure his followers will be suddenly very sobered by the facts on the ground, and also monkeys are most likely going to fly out of my butt

Yesterday I found out that one of my creative mentors had contracted the Delta variant earlier in August, which developed into Covid Pneumonia and a hospitalization a couple weeks ago...and now his death about an hour ago.

He apparently wasn't vaxxed, which I would like to think was due to some other medical issues he had rather than plain ignorance.

it's POSSIBLE not plausible, since no credible study has shown so and the manufacturer of the drug itself says there is no evidence

I just mean plausible as in if you were looking for an existing drug to treat Covid, this would be a decent candidate. it's shown good results....in test tubes

as far as the studies go, even if you eliminate the infamous Elgazzar study I think there are enough "good" studies for ivermectin to convince people who don't really understand the scientific process. that of course is the problem, it's easy to throw a bunch of numbers in someone's face to convince someone who really wants to believe that the government is suppressing an effective treatment to force people to get the vaccine for some reason. Unfortunately the follow-up studies are showing basically no benefit but these are after the "media" got ahold of the ivermectin story so everything is corrupt now, sorry folks they don't want you to know the truth but if you visit your local livestock store you just may save your own life

also worth mentioning that a bunch of countries actually are prescribing ivermectin for Covid, just cuz they don't really know what else to do right now. there are of course some people claiming those countries are seeing a big drop in hospitalizations and deaths because of it, but as you probably know already, that's not really true at all

I have no problem with doctors prescribing ivermectin or for that matter hydroxychoroquine or high doses of vitamin D or zinc; I only have a problem with people not taking more effective precautions because "they know" ivermectin will reliably and swiftly cure them if they get sick. (And I would also have a problem with doctors prescribing ivermectin in a context where an apparently clearly better treatment like the Regeneron med is available.)

i see a bunch of stuff talking about how at the beginning of the pandemic (2020) it was being prescribed in brazil and a lot of latin american countries. then i see a bunch of stuff about how studying covid/the vaccine has been difficult there because of all the people taking ivermectin. i don't see anything about countries that are currently prescribing it. but i'm on my 6th tab and out of steam

oh man, i hope they have enough ivermectin on hand. just whatever you do, don't take them to the hospital! people DIE in the hospital when they have covid.
