sounds like the judge is ready to drown this case in the tub. oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Sorry, on what grounds are they going to dismiss this case?
― frogbs, Friday, 2 September 2022 00:29 (one year ago) link
Not a dismissal, she is apparently considering granting Trump's motion for a special master (and thereby halting DOJ's review of the documents pending the special master's review). It's a grotesquerie.

How the fuck is a Trump appointed judge allowed to have anything to do with this case

ginni thomas said it would be fine

Reminder
Leaving aside how far Judge Cannon is going to accommodate Trump, it’s not like appointing a special master changes anything about Trump’s potential liability or the legitimacy of DOJ’s search. It’s about the possible return of *some* of the seized materials — and nothing more. https://t.co/MrWQdacvfi— Steve Vladeck (@steve_vladeck) August 27, 2022

This is fun:
Bill Barr said he did not believe Trump's claim that he had declassified everything before it was taken to his Florida resort, and he hit back at critics of the FBI search saying it was 'unprecedented' for such sensitive materials to be taken to a 'country club.'
Barr made his comments as Trump supporters continue to accuse the FBI and Department of Justice of conducted a witch hunt...

witch hunt is so season 2 of this show
― Karl Malone, Friday, 2 September 2022 21:21 (one year ago) link
xpost The actual clip is kind of fun, because he goes out of his way to give that quote:
Bill Barr: "I think the driver on this from the beginning was loads of classified information sitting in Mar-a-Lago. People say this was unprecedented, well it’s also unprecedented for a president to take all this classified information and put them in a country club, ok!" pic.twitter.com/A7fT59aKpD— Justin Baragona (@justinbaragona) September 2, 2022

― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 2 September 2022 21:44 (one year ago) link
I mean, he was brought on as AG because of his track record of successfully covering up presidential misconduct.
I wouldn't want to send him to a gulag, but I do think it would be fitting if he were disbarred.
― immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 2 September 2022 21:45 (one year ago) link
i'm sure trump hates his guts, but barr did him a major solid by putting out that memo (or press release? I don't remember) that purportedly summarized the findings of the Mueller report, weeks/months before that report became public. he straight up lied to protect Trump. he made it seem like an exoneration for Trump. Even now, to this day, since no one ever reads shit like the Muller report, even many/most liberal/left people have no idea how damning it was (and even that, from Mueller's team, seeming to bend over backward for Trump at every point)

Didn't the unredacted version of the Mueller report he summarized just come out a few days ago, revealing ... nothing? Or did I miss something.
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 2 September 2022 21:48 (one year ago) link
barr is a pile of steaming shit but the part in that clip about how long the DOJ should be expected to wait before acting is pretty solid
― Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 2 September 2022 21:49 (one year ago) link
xpost i didn't know that an unredacted version just came out, i wasn't trying to reference current news, whoops. but...
it wasn't the redactions that were the problems with it. i'm talking about criticisms that were evident as soon as the Mueller report came out. differences between how Barr described them (falsely, inaccurately "leaked" it, more like) and what the actual contents of the released report were.

“The inconsistencies between Attorney General Barr’s statements, made at a time when the public did not have access to the redacted version of the Mueller Report to assess the veracity of his statements, and portions of the redacted version of the Mueller Report that conflict with those statements cause the Court to seriously question whether Attorney General Barr made a calculated attempt to influence public discourse about the Mueller Report in favor of President Trump despite certain findings in the redacted version of the Mueller Report to the contrary,” the judge added.

I've a hunch that Barr is deeply offended that, after Trump hired him as AG, he's publicly employed a long list of lawyers who are complete hacks and fools, thus forcing Barr to be associated with them in the public mind.
