I thought that as soon as I posted it. It's "a conclusion or statement that does not logically follow from the previous statement," except that it does in Steve's mind, it's just a conflation of meanings. So I dunno...

Non sequiturs can be responses that have nothing to do with the conversation or flawed conclusions “based” on what preceded them.

There's an SCTV sketch about an expensive French restaurant where celebrity gourmands, such as Orson Welles, go to have their most elaborate culinary fantasies realized; wherein the maitre-d' makes the bilingual non-pun "Mr. Welles likes his coq-au-vin prepared with real cocoa".

That joke was also in a Three's Company episode, where Chrissy made dinner and Jack (who was a cook) says "That's the first time I've had coq-au-vin made with cocoa."
