I have used AT&T/SBC/Ameritech for the entire time I've been in Chicago and have never had a single problem with them.

jaymc, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:29 (sixteen years ago) link

I mean, I don't doubt that others have had bad experiences, but I'm not going to let that stand in the way of my continuing patronage.

jaymc, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:30 (sixteen years ago) link

also: near-monopoly

dan m, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:32 (sixteen years ago) link

Haha, yeah.

jaymc, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Hey! They're finally showing the Simpsons movie at the Logan! Sarah, do you want to go tonight maybe?

n/a, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:38 (sixteen years ago) link

from a customer standpoint, they're different, whatever the business details might be. and they both royally suck, but i've had worse experience with comcast. they don't have a working phone system--when i call their cust service, which i do frequently (ongoing nightmare, ugh), i have to make 3 or 4 phone calls to get through to the dept i want, because their automated system is fucked.

i never had probs with ATT until i switched to comcast and they screwed up the transfer of the telephone line, which took two months to correct and which i'm still dealing with financially. i wish my building had RCN so i could deal with neither company ever again.

i will shut up now.

JuliaA, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:39 (sixteen years ago) link

perfectly understandable. Go with what works for you, because they all suck.

kenan, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:42 (sixteen years ago) link

I want to do SOMETHING tonight. I've been watching too much TV.

n/a, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Jordan, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Damn it, I try to keep it low-key for a week in anticipation of a fun-filled wedding weekend and these movie temptations come to haunt me.

dan m, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Who is using Office (Word) '07? Where have they hidden print preview?

Jordan, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:57 (sixteen years ago) link

oh never mind

Jordan, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Office '07? Fancy!

jaymc, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:58 (sixteen years ago) link

there's a show at the note tonight nick. looks like i won't be going as apparently the dogs i'm watching were barking last night while i was out and i got an angry email from my land lady.

i need a fucking job so i can move out of this hovel. that's what i want more than anything else.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, we all upgraded a couple months ago. It was a pain at first (no more drop-down menus) but I'm cool with it now. Excel is still kinda tough but I was never very good at it (not like you, jaymc, lolz).

Jordan, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, I know the Jay Reatard show is tonight, but I'm pretty tired and probably won't be wanting to do anything that late. I'm thinking more like early evening. Simpsons movie is at 6:50.

n/a, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:04 (sixteen years ago) link

Haha, remember when Sarah had to tell me how to do something in Excel, though? I've never had to use it for anything work-related, so the only time I ever use it is to update my movie-watching log and crunch baby-name stats.

jaymc, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:05 (sixteen years ago) link

heh. There is no Office '07 for Mac. Looks like there's going to be an '08, though.

Oh man, I'm boring myself.

kenan, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:05 (sixteen years ago) link

Nick, I listened to your mix and the big winner for me (ie I checked out their myspace and would buy a record) is Skeletons and the Kings of All Cities. They actually remind me of the Lounge Lizards a lot. What can you tell me about them.

Also, Nick, I think that I will finally get to work on that track tonight.

Jordan, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:14 (sixteen years ago) link

You think that's boring, Kenan?

I have used POWER POINT '07 and I will be happy to tell you all about it.

Jenny, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:20 (sixteen years ago) link

You can make the words fly right onto the page!

Jenny, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:22 (sixteen years ago) link

REALLY?!

I have Powerpoint '07 but I've never opened it. Same for Access '07, Publisher '07, InfoPath '07, etc.

Jordan, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:24 (sixteen years ago) link

I know it's so f'n cool!

Jenny, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:27 (sixteen years ago) link

dan m, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:29 (sixteen years ago) link

Cam was playing some Compulsive Gamblers in the car last weekend, it sounded good.

Jenny, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 20:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Are you calling me a douchebottle?

Jordan, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 20:21 (sixteen years ago) link

hahahaha fat cunt inc.

dan m, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 20:22 (sixteen years ago) link

xp to Jordan: No! I just thought people might appreciate that.

Jenny, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 20:22 (sixteen years ago) link

So I read that Reader cover story, and I think that it's the rare profile of a musician that isn't built around selling a CD or other product. The guy really does light up a room when he plays and sings, or at least he did the times I saw him play with Hogan, in a real who-is-that-guy way. The article, unfortunately, didn't capture that and built a narrative around his life outside of what makes him special as a musician. (Comparatively, that's why that Miles R. piece about the FFs worked well -- the narrative was built around the music, not vice versa.)

xpost - see, I tell ya, "douche" is breaking out in August/September 2007.

Eazy, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 20:23 (sixteen years ago) link

That's okay, I just wanted to say douchebottle. Trying to spread the term.

Jordan, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 20:23 (sixteen years ago) link

I am listening to this. Interesting, though predictably, most of the covers are no match for the originals.

jaymc, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 20:31 (sixteen years ago) link

original artist of all along the watchtower was jimi hendrix? way to do your fact checking.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 20:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Good point, although maybe the cover hews closer to the Hendrix version than to the Dylan version? I haven't listened to it yet. Also maybe they needed a 1968 song more than a 1967 song.
