I dunno, when it comes to relationship i've been with guys that were all about talking about their feelings, which generally gets me v. eyeroll unless you have some real current issues anyway, but never really gave any evidence of having feelings in any other way, and despite their words were really calculating, and I always feel like I'm the opposite, i'm sincere about stuff I just don't want to have to talk about it, you know, ever.

my most drama filled relationship was basically a lot of going through the motions on both ends i think

Talking about it is a skill I have acquired over time, to be sure. Ok, I kinda relate to that.

I think the thing for him, was that the crying was simultaneously affecting and he was also suspicious of it. He was definitely a product of boarding schools -- where it seems like kids perfect bullying, manipulation, and fucked up behavior towards one another a lot more than at schools where they go home to their families every day.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Saturday, 8 August 2009 00:22 (fourteen years ago) link

xp Surely I still conceal more feelings than I reveal. But there are practical reasons for that. I'm given to having intense feelings about anything and everything, and that's no way to go through your day.

Black bread and Victory gin AGAIN? (kenan), Saturday, 8 August 2009 00:24 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah boarding school will fuck you up

❊❁❄❆❇❃✴❈plaxico❈✴❃❇❆❄❁❊ (I know, right?), Saturday, 8 August 2009 00:26 (fourteen years ago) link

I just try to remind myself, when I feel really intensely about something, that we're all going to die. It helps.

the school I went to still had boarders when I started going there an they were all total psychopaths, whenever they got into fights it was vicious too

At one of the boarding schools he went to, one of his best male friends got raped by a resident assistant.

my point is that my ex had some seriously fucked up shit happen to him, that I generally forgave him a bit of psycho-ness.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Saturday, 8 August 2009 00:37 (fourteen years ago) link

I could never demand forgiveness of my psycho-ness, but lord knows I appreciate it.

I was also emotionally fucked up and 20 years old so I found his psycho-ness attractive.

xpost Your therapist won't forgive you, either. Not their job.

I'll quit posting about my ex-boyfriend's fucked up youth. I've probably forgotten half of the details at this point.

I'll stop posting altogether. Friday night.

people to see, drinking to do ...

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Saturday, 8 August 2009 00:56 (fourteen years ago) link

okay, here's a question:

not wanting to get into too much detail, but -

I was recently contacted by a reporter for the local paper who wants to write an article about a business I and my partner operate. The main focus of the article is one aspect of our business, that my partner manages. Motivated partly by jealousy, as well as a desire for the article to present a better picture, I mentioned another aspect of the business - the part I manage. The reporter was not aware of this aspect of our business. This aspect is not properly licensed, and we received attention from the City government about it, and we are officially "not doing that anymore." There has been a bit of criticism from the arts community of the City government for cracking down on these activities. The paper that this reporter writes for is one that City government officials actually read, as opposed to alternative weeklies, which list these activities in their paper.

I'm trying to figure out the best way of handling this. Do I play it safe? Do I tell the truth and try and make it a political issue?

not a pot club in anticipation of one obvious question.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Thursday, 13 August 2009 22:36 (fourteen years ago) link

It took a while, but I've figured it all out.

jaymc, Thursday, 13 August 2009 22:58 (fourteen years ago) link

what I should do, or what my real name is?

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Thursday, 13 August 2009 22:58 (fourteen years ago) link

Oh, I don't know what you should do. Just the specifics of the situation.

jaymc, Thursday, 13 August 2009 23:00 (fourteen years ago) link

I guess I would ask, though, what sort of ramifications would there be if the city found out? Could the city shut down the whole business? Force you to pay a fine? Or would you be able to say "sorry, won't happen again" and then carry on as usual?

jaymc, Thursday, 13 August 2009 23:03 (fourteen years ago) link

(The business sounds rad, btw.)

king of research

cool app (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Thursday, 13 August 2009 23:08 (fourteen years ago) link

it's one of those things ... I've gotten plenty of advice about the whole thing ... which goes back about a year and half. Lots of people saying to make a political issue out of it, garner a lot of community support and effect change, etc. Lots of "We're with you all the way." But, these people aren't me.

in answer to your questions: I don't know what they would do. They could declare it a public nuisance and shut it down. The potential fines, if they choose to go that route, are probably less severe than were we to have continued the other unlicensed practice that is obviously illegal, though the City of San Francisco tends to turn a blind eye to it when engaged in by non-profits like ours. However, the City of Oakland does not.

We made a serious attempt to try and get licensed, and it just wasn't feasible. The process involved a series of judgment calls on the City's part, none of which went in our favor.

thanks! Part of me was offended that this reporter had no clue about _that stuff_ considering she writes a nightlife column. On the other hand, it's probably for the best, and as most of what we do serves a niche audience, does it really matter? Still, I was kinda dumbfounded that professional journalist lacks the instinct to perform a google search or look at our website.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Thursday, 13 August 2009 23:44 (fourteen years ago) link

this is all very mysterious and intriguing

considering you live in a foreign country, I wouldn't have a problem with you knowing particulars, but I'd like to humbly request that names of people and entities not appear on ilx. I'm partly here to escape from this stuff.

oh, don't worry, I may be a little tipsy but I'm basically 100% in favour of not bringing this into a public realm

but I am about to embark on a jaymc-type quest of knowledge. possibly. mostly 'coz i am a fan.

you can always message me through ilx ...though, I just realized that a google search for my first name and last initial and my city of residence, puts me in the first page of results ... oh well.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Friday, 14 August 2009 01:40 (fourteen years ago) link

lol yeah because there's only one sarahel on the first page and she looks a bit too dilapidated and lawyery, no offence to her and her esteemed practice
