bounties probably the best celebrations tbh, I will go for the galaxy caramels first but they will make me feel a bit sick

I don’t really like the UK Milky Way bars because: filler but they’re less offensive than the coconut in Bounty bars.
I did not throw the Bounties away, but they were removed from the Celebrations box and put to one side.

Heroes Dinky Decker has the texture of dirt mixed with chocolate but I like them anyway.

I like Bounty - it's one of the ones I can confidently bite into with a high level of certainty that my caps and fillings will still be glued to my teeth when I've finished eating it.

Highland Toffee (replete with tartan packaging) trumps toffee penney for filling extraction.

I can handle Crunchie, but after a tooth shattering while biting into a pizza crust I'm still a bit shook. And there is a filling that is more like a reconstructed tooth - that even the dentist who'd just charged me fortune said try not to use it too much. And the hard toffees in quality street, well I daren't even look at them.

this made me look up what remains of proper old-fashioned fillings-nuisance chewy toffee (since toffos were discontinued in 2005) and i discovered something called oor wullie's braw chew bar

xps "a dark chocolate almond joy"
Mounds is a candy bar made by The Hershey Company, consisting of shredded, sweetened coconut coated in dark chocolate. The company also produces the Almond Joy, a similar bar topped by whole almonds and covered in milk chocolate.

I've definitely heard stories about people thinking Hershey's tastes like vomit, literally, but I don't know why. Some ingredient in it that certain pallets don't like, like with cilantro? I don't get it.
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 12 January 2024 23:16 (four months ago) link
i feel like the "vomit" thing is just rhetorical excess when people could just say "jesus christ why would anybody willingly eat this dogshit?"

― ( X '____' )/ (zappi), Friday, 12 January 2024 23:29 (four months ago) link
It's the butyric acid that comes out of the Hershey chocolate process that gives it the sour/vomit taste. European chocolate uses a different process with their milk powder - I think the story goes that back in the day, Hershey couldn't get the European process to work, but could if the milk spoiled a little.

As a result, the Hershey flavor is widely recognized in the United States, the Philippines, and to a minor extent in Canada, where British-produced chocolates were commonly sold, but less so internationally, especially in areas where European chocolates are more widely available.
Shade noted but well deserved

reading about petty crime is pretty interesting. "Officers also found a bag containing a long screwdriver, gloves and a hammer." definitely a professional.
best detail here is that he collided with a police car during the getaway and...
Following his conviction, Simms will be disqualified from driving for two years on his release and will have to take an extended driving test.

Emergency services are at Chester Market after reports of customers being affected by fumes. This was due to the cooking of a large amount of chillies and there are no wider public health concerns. The market has been evacuated but we are working to get it back to normal asap. pic.twitter.com/t07a2vcRZ9— Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service (@CheshireFire) January 27, 2024

^this exact thing happened years ago near where I used to work in Soho/London, a Thai restaurant was cooking up its chili sauce in bulk and people started reporting some sort of chemical leak.
Police arrived en-masse, cordoned off the area, and smashed doors down. It was a proper scenario, and iirc it was only a couple of years after 7/7, I guess they were still on high alert.

if you vaporise enough dried chillis in a wok I can confirm that it makes a spicy smoke that catches in your throat and makes you cough, generally means something delicious is on its way.
