Criterion Collection on DVD. Recommendations please.

Sweet Movie is awesome but it's one of those films where it helps to like, know the political history of 20th century yugoslavia to get half of what he's going on about. The film prof at Oberlin wrote a book on eastern european cinema and taught 3 half semester classes, films of Bergman, films of Fellini and films of Makevejev!

Bicycle Thieves is the one where the struggling father and his son accompany a bunch of Italian marines to go check out a mining colony where all the bicycles have mysteriously vanished and ok i think you can see where i'm going with this

Gomorrah- excellent lesson on the mob, economics and moviemaking.

Make Way For Tomorrow has poky moments, but extraordinary ones too; the conversation between Thomas Mitchell and Beulah Bondi, and the scene of the bridge party rank with the best of Ozu.

Apparently Antichrist will be Criterion. Not that I would wholly recommend it.

That BBS Box looks so damn good.

christ, i don't think i could have asked for a better criterion update. 'night of the hunter' blew me away when i finally saw it on the big screen this year, 'modern times' is my favorite chaplin, and 'antichrist' was my favorite film of '09. 'hausu' is probably worth another visit as well.
