ah ok

cosmic abbigong (Abbott), Friday, 14 August 2009 02:04 (fourteen years ago) link

xp - hey, if you're gonna study journalism, you gotta get used to doing research ... when I'm looking for info on someone associated with an organization or entity or publication, I generally check to see if there's a staff listing.

I honestly don't mind that much if people know who I am, I just don't want my professional affiliations spelled out on ilx.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Friday, 14 August 2009 02:08 (fourteen years ago) link

fwiw i just found you and your business :P

cockles (country matters), Friday, 14 August 2009 02:10 (fourteen years ago) link

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Friday, 14 August 2009 02:12 (fourteen years ago) link

it is an awesome business no lie

also i am normally pretty good at this research lark...i found and facebook-friended DJ Mencap armed only with the knowledge he'd put on a certain band in a certain city...anyway enuff crepe (altho it isn't really crepe let's be honest, it is all <3)

cockles (country matters), Friday, 14 August 2009 02:14 (fourteen years ago) link

i still have no idea, even with all these clues

yeah ... my outdated artist's resume is out there somewhere too ...

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Friday, 14 August 2009 02:32 (fourteen years ago) link

suddenly, everything was deconstructed and demythologised

cockles (country matters), Friday, 14 August 2009 02:47 (fourteen years ago) link

sorry about that ...

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Friday, 14 August 2009 03:39 (fourteen years ago) link

how best to approach a story whose formatting can be described as 'inscrutable at best'

cockles (country matters), Friday, 14 August 2009 03:41 (fourteen years ago) link

as a reader or writer?

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Friday, 14 August 2009 03:47 (fourteen years ago) link

haa, don't worry, the latter isn't a problem...youtube audio clips interspersed with website text interspersed with home-delivered leaflets

regarding yr story, i get that my assumptions abt narrative are being deconstructed or whatever but like where's the start

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Friday, 14 August 2009 04:03 (fourteen years ago) link

haha yes that one!

(sorry i am abt to sleep...if i ever ruin yr thread again with mental overposting just gimme a polite word)

cockles (country matters), Friday, 14 August 2009 04:09 (fourteen years ago) link

that one isn't much to do with deconstruction or anything ... it's a fairly straight narrative, only the live journal format makes it all backwards.

you can always message me through ilx, send email, etc.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Friday, 14 August 2009 04:13 (fourteen years ago) link

Damn that LJ! Oh wait I was supposed to be hitting the hay.

cockles (country matters), Friday, 14 August 2009 04:22 (fourteen years ago) link

the story began as an attempt to sublimate the diaristic impulse, which is why it's on that site.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Friday, 14 August 2009 04:26 (fourteen years ago) link

Guys just get a room and get it over with already ;-)

They're dancing!

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Friday, 14 August 2009 04:29 (fourteen years ago) link

there was this video art piece I saw once that was pretty much a close up of boobs in a tight t-shirt jiggling along to a Michael Jackson song. It was projected on the wall, so they were quite large.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Friday, 14 August 2009 04:31 (fourteen years ago) link

ha!

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Friday, 14 August 2009 04:32 (fourteen years ago) link

it was the only video piece in the exhibition ... sponsored by Altoids.

Not quite! Don't expect a great deal of me between 5 am and midday tho

cockles (country matters), Friday, 14 August 2009 11:57 (fourteen years ago) link

I actually went back and read some of that story ... it's pretty workmanlike, and something, very much like a diary, where the real audience is myself. It did make me feel better realizing that half of the annoying people that inspired some of the characters, I really don't have anything to do with anymore.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Friday, 14 August 2009 19:21 (fourteen years ago) link

in response to the last question on the mod req forum thread, she was the singer in the original recording.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 01:50 (fourteen years ago) link

! that is awesome...i do trust she regarded her efforts with the utmost fondness

You are Rebels! You are all yankees (country matters), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 01:51 (fourteen years ago) link

she did ... another friend, the one who wanted the Slovenian Babies was totally in awe of her when she found out she sang the Most Unwanted Song

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 01:53 (fourteen years ago) link

you have groovy connections...do you know anyone else involved in this brilliant project? and for serious, the moment 4:16 into the Most Wanted song more than justifies not only its existence, but also that of all terrible adult-contemporary smooth-jazz ever

You are Rebels! You are all yankees (country matters), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 01:56 (fourteen years ago) link

No, I don't ... I was familiar with the work of the conceptual artists who commissioned it, which is how I came to hear it.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 01:57 (fourteen years ago) link

Well, that you feasibly had the services of that soprano for a reconstruction is adequate awesomeness for me. A true vocal pioneer.

You are Rebels! You are all yankees (country matters), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 02:00 (fourteen years ago) link

I hadn't actually discussed it with her.

For a while I was working on a project where I would make "America's Most Wanted Movie" (composed of existing clips, as opposed to filming a new one), but it ended up just being a power point presentation about the project.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 02:01 (fourteen years ago) link

No, we or somebody MUST make the Most Wanted and Unwanted movies!!!

You are Rebels! You are all yankees (country matters), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 02:06 (fourteen years ago) link

instead of surveying people, I compiled results of other surveys to come up with a list of 100 movies, and then my bf patiently helped me fill out surveys of attributes of these movies ... hundreds of hours ... we didn't end up watching all 100 ... I think we did 91 of them. Most of the ones we didn't do were Disney movies.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 02:09 (fourteen years ago) link

Totally gonna survey like 500 ppl asking 'what are the 3 things you most want/unwant in a movie' and then make a short film of each

You are Rebels! You are all yankees (country matters), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 02:10 (fourteen years ago) link

It would probably work better (perhaps be more hilarious) if you had a longer more "scientific" survey.

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 02:12 (fourteen years ago) link

n.b. if 'enormous big-budget outer-space sci-fi action CGI' crops up in either list then it's getting ignored

Oh, you mean, by asking different questions like 'what would make you leave a film early'/'what would make you see a film again'?

You are Rebels! You are all yankees (country matters), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 02:14 (fourteen years ago) link

like:
would there be a small child in it?
what side of the law is the main character on?
what is the most powerful weapon used?
Is there full-frontal nudity?

free jazz and mumia (sarahel), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 02:15 (fourteen years ago) link

What is the main character's weakness?

You are Rebels! You are all yankees (country matters), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 02:17 (fourteen years ago) link

exactly ...like that.

some of my other survey questions:

What is the largest object thrown?
What is the largest number of people killed in one scene?
