Fast food, MTL edition!

L4fleur and La B3lle Province. Seriously. Best hot dogs this side of a scuzzy stand at a chicago ball game.

I quit eating at the Carl's Jr. once their advertising got so goddamn disgusting and trashy.

Abbott, Friday, 11 May 2007 18:59 (seventeen years ago) link

It's like it's the same ad company as Axe or something. It's really awful.

kenan, Friday, 11 May 2007 19:03 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't want to associate burgers w/Paris Hilton's jizzjar anymore than I already do.

Abbott, Friday, 11 May 2007 19:04 (seventeen years ago) link

waht

Jordan, Friday, 11 May 2007 19:05 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm surprised by Burger King hatred, too: I haven't had any in a while, but I still feel like a Whopper (or Jr.) is one of the least disgusting fast-food burgers available. Not only is the meat okay, but the whole burger is spread a bit thin and wide, and comes rather heavy on the vegetables and condiments and whatnot; on a good day it's the only fast-food burger I could half-pretend I'd actually just put together at a backyard cookout.

The last time I had DQ food, which I was ridiculously fond of as a kid, I noticed they'd added a really strong artificial smoke flavor to the burger patties -- it was almost uncomfortably stilted and stagey, getting all that liquid smoke in a drive-through burger, but I have to admit I enjoyed it.

I haven't had Sonic in over a decade, but I still think about it at least once a week. Sonic shakes. Sonic salty fries. Sonic tasty burgers. Sonic ridiculous syrup drinks served in a bucket of ice-pebbles. I never even liked the syrupy drinks, but whenever I see those ice-pebbles in a commercial, the nostalgia kicks in.

Okay how can I submit anything this boring when it's just crossposted with "jizzjar?" I don't want to follow that.

nabisco, Friday, 11 May 2007 19:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Is jizzjar a part of the body? I thought Paris Hilton WAS a jizzjar, in total?

kenan, Friday, 11 May 2007 19:14 (seventeen years ago) link

her coochie is a jizzjar

Mr. Que, Friday, 11 May 2007 19:14 (seventeen years ago) link

i guess her mouth, too

Mr. Que, Friday, 11 May 2007 19:15 (seventeen years ago) link

I used to subsist on Whoppers. They used to be 99 cents @ the BK just a 10-minute drive from my block; my CARAZY HS friends & I used to play Setback & Hi-Lo (sic?) for Whoppers & sundries for 8-10 hrs @ a time, w/ Nevermind playing non-stop in the CD changer, & our host's drunk mom serving us stale Cheetos & microwave burritos, & our host's drunk dad playing LPs in the adjoining room wearing nothing but jean cut-offs that flattered his resplendent pot belly (I LOVE THE 90s PART YEAH). And then I worked @ the BK for a summer, so YAY WHOPPERS. Now, I think my body convulses whenever I even think of pulling into a BK parking lot. Helps that the last time I had BK, the lettuce on my BK Broiler was a darling shade of brown.

I was hoping this was the thread where I posted my WHAT I LEARNED FROM TACO BELL list, but it ain't. u_u

I've had Zaxby's in Raleigh, NC. It is rad.

The only regional chain I've found in Oregon that's worth a crap is Burgerville. What is with all the crappy taco places? And the tater tots... I realize that Idaho is right there and they have a lot of potato scraps that need to be injection-molded into little greasy cylinders, but calm down.

JoJos are a nice find, though.

Kerm, Friday, 11 May 2007 19:24 (seventeen years ago) link

I miss tater tots!

David R., Friday, 11 May 2007 19:26 (seventeen years ago) link

you can still get them

there's a place in richmond virginia called sticky rice that specializes in sushi and tater tots???

Mr. Que, Friday, 11 May 2007 19:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Chicken Rondelet sandwiches (2) & Tater Tots (many) = me, age 12.

i just realized that the best fast food chains (if you count sandwiches) are british. how bizarre.

strongohulkington, Friday, 11 May 2007 19:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Three days this week I have had a McDonald's bacon and egg biscuit (minus the stuff that passes for cheese) and orange juice.

How unhealthy could this possibly be - what passes for an egg in Ronald's world?

milo z, Friday, 11 May 2007 19:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Strongo: because we are actually twins separated at birth by SOCIETY?

David R., Friday, 11 May 2007 19:38 (seventeen years ago) link

The eggs come out of tubes.

I miss jojo's too...I think we used to get them from the grocery store hot food counter when I was a kid?

Jordan, Friday, 11 May 2007 19:39 (seventeen years ago) link

All eggs come out of tubes, if you really think about it. :D

David R., Friday, 11 May 2007 19:39 (seventeen years ago) link

me too. footlong chili cheese dog & tots w/ a Route 66 limeade. The nearest one is in, like, Boise and really that is too far to drive (10 hours one way?)

Jaq, Friday, 11 May 2007 19:43 (seventeen years ago) link

I can't believe Wendy's gets teh "Best Burger" accolade. Everytime I eat there (ok, maybe this has happened twice in the past 2 years), I immediately wanted to die. I felt like grease was seeping out of my pores. Disgusting.

Also, I love Sonic and their delicious tots.

synthetic eggs

eater, Friday, 11 May 2007 19:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Actually, I think I'm now partial to McD's burgers in lieu of Wendy's, esp. their Double Quarter Pounders With Cheese, which probably cause cancer, but fuggit.

David R., Friday, 11 May 2007 20:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Some cheddar and an apple. Plenty damn quick, you betcha.

Aimless, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:19 (seventeen years ago) link

I'll stick up for Wendy's, but I do think Burger King burgers are the best. I lived on dollar Whoppers for... a while. Probably way too long.

kenan, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:21 (seventeen years ago) link

Sonic love is most-appropriate. The ice alone will almost always cause me to choose it over others.

Ms Misery, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Only good thing about Sonic is their shaved ice.

Fast-food gourmands know that Chik-Fil-A is where it's at.

milo z, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:24 (seventeen years ago) link

guys I have never even seen a Sonic it's not faaaaaaair!

horseshoe, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:25 (seventeen years ago) link

I will also rep for Sonic, forget McDonald's, Sonic is the one that successfully colonized my childhood brain, and even today, Sonic love says "above average taste in food" to me.

kenan, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, I nearly forgot, though: The Jumbo Jack does have a slight edge on the Whopper in the dollar hamburger department.

kenan, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Horseshoe, according to the handy online Sonic Locator, your nearest drive-through is in either Peoria or Urbana. They're closing in on you, never fear.

nabisco, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:30 (seventeen years ago) link

road trip!

horseshoe, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:32 (seventeen years ago) link

I'll go with.

kenan, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Hardee's/Carl Jr's thickburgers are great. If you don't like their advertising you could, you know, stop watching tv, get off your lazy ass and go eat a gigantic fatty fast food burger.

Kerm, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:35 (seventeen years ago) link

The first time I ever went to a Sonic (about 2 years ago), I didn't know what to do. I heard the speaker next to me go off, so I started yelling my order to the menu. I then realized there was a red button and "push when ready to order" sign. That was a sad day.

Chick-fil-A is not open on Sundays. Booo. Sunday is prime "I Need Grease for My Horendous Hangover" day. I know they're trying to be good Christians, but they need to help the sinners (i.e. hungover) out.

molly mummenschanz, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:36 (seventeen years ago) link

I have also never eaten Sonic.

Jordan, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:37 (seventeen years ago) link

The last Wendy's sandwich I had was the worst thing I've ever eaten, completely without any redeeming qualities. I could barely finish it.

brownie, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:39 (seventeen years ago) link

There's a Sonic about a half mile from my house. It is beautiful.

I have heard rumor of Sonics that aren't just drive-ups! Like, full seating inside!

Oh, Steak and Shake, dudes. Steak and Shake.

molly mummenschanz, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Visit the Sonic Locator! They're going national in a big way, creeping up the country from south to north; they haven't gotten everywhere yet, but already it'd be hard to do many long drives without running into a few along the way. I just hope the national expansion doesn't come along with any drop-off in quality, or anything.

How national was the A&W hamburger stand? I used to dig those.

nabisco, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:41 (seventeen years ago) link

They're still around.

Jordan, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:41 (seventeen years ago) link

There's a couple of those non-drive-up Sonics in Austin. I refuse to use them on principle.

Ms Misery, Friday, 11 May 2007 20:42 (seventeen years ago) link

The best thing about the really long drives we did last May (a year ago! Damn, was that the last time I had Sonic?) - I used the locator to map out where they all were along our route and we ate at least 6 meals in 3 weeks at one.
