the awkward one ganged up on and beaten, brutalized, surrounded and pummeled by the hillbilly bullies. don't look! they might see you! it's not your problem! the requiem of an evolutionary primate branch, a world heating up!

Trump stops on his way out of court to touch Jeanine Pirro’s shoulder. It’s the happiest he’s seemed all morning.

Today in "Maggie Haberman is a vapid idiot":

A curiosity that’s interesting to court-watchers in the room today: a very visible, dark spindle of hairspray running through Trump’s dyed blond hair, on the left side of his head over his ear.

I think someone pointed out a while ago that he thinks Anthony Hopkins endorsed him or something.

At a New Jersey rally, Donald Trump made repeated reference to “the late, great Hannibal Lecter” and confused Jimmy Carter with Jimmy Connors—forcing a difficult conversation about Biden’s age and mental acuity.

I’m ceaselessly amazed that thousands of people voluntarily subject themselves to Trump’s meandering train of thought speeches. As long as he hits the proper punchlines I guess: his trials are bullshit and foreigners are terrible.

Requiem for a Dream: The Musical! (Dan Peterson), Sunday, 12 May 2024 19:02 (one week ago) link

The Hannibal Lecter bit is a bigoted joke comparing immigrants to serial killers, he doesn't think Lecter was real or endorsing him.

When I was growing up in the ‘70s/‘80s I recognized the fact that most Americans were either slightly conservative or slightly liberal, and a minority were fundamentalist Christians who were way out there in cuckooland. It’s only in the past ten years that I’ve realized that 50% of Americans are either completely insane or are severely cognitively impaired. It’s at least 50%, you can’t tell me it’s less, not any more.

Josefa, Sunday, 12 May 2024 19:58 (one week ago) link

I was at an art opening last night and there was a woman with a piece in the show telling people that General Patton was Trump's biological father. This was a fairly small town gallery, but a nice group of seemingly liberal art lovers, and it seemed completely wacky and out of place despite the countryside around the town being covered in Trump crap.

It was in Freeport, IL, by the way, site of one of the Lincoln/Douglas debates.

This is Johnny McEntee, senior advisor to Project 2025 & Trump’s Director of the Office of Personnel Management.

McEntee would be the most central person to implement Schedule F & hire Trump loyalists across all government agencies in a second term.

apparently he owed 50 different trump university vendors and they all took the 20% except for two of them. what happened to the two? they went away. classy.

Pence and Vance sort of rhyme, lend themselves to similar puns etc.

danger: stream of consciousness bullshit ahead—

to most entities the burden of litigation arbitration or negotiation is distracting, burdensome, and/or annoying enough to result in improved business models. trump by fame bluster and shamelessness, and the correct selection of markets and of trading victims, turned it into a variably successful series of grifts. he was bankrupt several times. eventually he moved mainly into selling his name. and then to politics, which has the lowest possible level of guaranty of performance. there’s still RE, but i sorta expect its legacy/vestigial? dunno, i could be wrong there. have assumed a while that without political trump, both the trademark trump and the RE trump collapse.

anyway politics has a lotta visibility but you can lie nearly without limit. it’s been a steady descent of standards for him, and a continual increase in public exposure and really, also an increase in the stakes for everyone.

he has mastered the double down, so we get to either: the system effectively collapses, or he is imprisoned (or eliminated).

you read that new yorker article and you really do end up blaming that t.v. producer. trump was on the outs. he had no money. nobody wanted his fucking steaks. and that guy threw him a lifeline. all of a sudden he was hugely famous in a way he hadn't been with his books and new york/casino fame. he was famous famous. sucks so bad. just a simple twist of fate.

I don't see how Vance helps Trump as his VP at all. The only worse Veep pick would be Laura Loomer.

Vance did win a senate seat in Ohio, so he could conceivably help to solidify those 17 electoral college votes for Trump. Vance may be transparently awful in our eyes, but to anyone capable of voting for Trump, he's entirely acceptable. Appealing, even.

scott seward, Monday, 13 May 2024 18:36 (one week ago) link
