That got me to thinking about Nicholas Hoogstraten, the cartoonishly evil landlord who moved to Zimbabwe. He is apparently still alive, at the age of 79, despite being a near-contemporary of Peter Rachman. It seems he began early. I always mentally associate him with scandals from the 1980s - Polly Peck, the Bank of Credit and Commerce International, the Guinness share-dealing fraud - all of which existed when I was young, which was a long time ago.
