Mish Rahman on Radio 4 calling out the "bare-faced lies" and racism
"they want to humiliate her publicly.. Keir Starmer & his bully boys have a hit list & they want to humiliate these women of colour because they think it plays well with target voters. Classy.
More recently, he attracted criticism for hanging a "Darren Rodwell for Barking" banner on some gravestones.

Just been confirmed that Diane Abbott has been barred from standing.

Even Tony Blair didn't purge left-wing MPs like this.

I’ve since had a further message describing the abuse Nargund’s campaign has received on the doorstep in Islington. Angry residents have said Starmer is boring, Labour have no policies & they support the genocide in Gaza. One man said Starmer “looks like a National Front guy”.— Simon Hitpo (@HitpoSimon) May 28, 2024
they might need to revise the betting market on Islington N

I’m hearing from Islington Labour that Praful Nargund’s campaign had such an awful start he’s thinking of quitting. Despite knocking 100s of doors over the weekend they only found 3 people who’d vote for him. Nargund close to tears & an NEC member had to persuade him to carry on.— Simon Hitpo (@HitpoSimon) May 28, 2024

I'm believing it to be true, he's only made one post since being selected. Normally MPs are posting multiple pics of themselves when they are knocking on doors.

it's amazing how blatant they've made it that they'd already made a decision to get rid of her and are now thrashing about desperately trying to find a phony rationale
The Guardian understands that the party could make a renewed push to exclude her from standing again for her Hackney North and Stoke Newington seat after she liked a post on X by Jeremy Corbyn’s wife, Laura Alvarez, about his decision to stand as an independent candidate. Restoring the whip to Abbot would allow her to leave the party “with dignity”, according to party sources.
Party sources acknowledge the huge amount of support that Abbott has locally and had been hoping to find a civil agreement and not stand for Labour at the next election due to what are termed as health difficulties. But sources close to Abbott have questioned why her future in the party has been linked to her health, and why she cannot make the decision.

Luke Akehurst to be parachuted into her seat? That's the gravest of insults to Diane and the people who elected her. The entire leadership of this party needs exterminating. it's just so sickening.

They are now officially the UK's leading racist party, the Tories have been right all along about how, in comparison, they are much more inclusive of ethnic minorities.

Wonder if Diane could win as an Independent. I hope she has seen this scenario and has been considering it.
Its not that ppl know of Luke, but the guy isn't a politician. Wonder what her chances might be against that worm.

Of course, because no other voters count but white red wall voters. Nice of them to be so blatant and so patronising about it.

It could break the link between ethnic minorities and Labour, with Muslims the only constituency both major parties don't want.

Yes but she is personally not especially well liked, unlike Corbyn.
― Poets Win Prizes (Tom D.), Wednesday, 29 May 2024 08:38 (four weeks ago) link
Luke is probably one of ugliest freaks of the Labour Right, everything about him is grotesque. I think even people who are not fans of Diane will be inclined to agree with this.
― vodkaitamin effrtvescent (calzino), Wednesday, 29 May 2024 08:45 (four weeks ago) link
I am personally a bit suspicious of some of her antics, and the infantilisation of her as 'auntie' Diane by left twitter, but don't see enough of a problem to just humiliate her like this and bar her. A lot of dislike does come down to racism, and the way she has been treated feeds into that.
But yes she isn't liked and a creep like Luke has the advantage of being unknown.

This is what I saw last night.
"Although her fate is officially yet to be decided, three Labour activists with links to Abbott’s constituency – Anntoinette Bramble, the deputy mayor of Hackney council; Sem Moema, the London assembly member for North East; and Mete Coban, a Labour councillor for Stoke Newington – have been widely talked about as possible replacements."
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 29 May 2024 08:54 (four weeks ago) link
The people calling Diane Abbott ‘auntie’ are mostly black and brown women on the left who do so as a form of respect. Allow it.
― guillotine vogue (suzy), Wednesday, 29 May 2024 08:54 (four weeks ago) link
Its not for me to allow it. I'll keep thinking its bollocks. Thanks.

Sem Moema dropped out from the Islington North selection with many suggesting friendship with one of the Hackney Council paedo wrong’uns left her vulnerable.

the Labour leadership presiding over leaks, much confusion, the veritable clusterfuck of the day. You see this.. this is what stability looks like.
― vodkaitamin effrtvescent (calzino), Wednesday, 29 May 2024 09:28 (four weeks ago) link
Robert Peston tweeted something saying that she'd negotiated a deal with the leadership where she'd retire, the whip would be restored, Starmer and other senior figures would make respectful statements paying tribute to her, but then these briefings appeared in the Times saying that she'd been barred from standing (from Labour right types who couldn't resist the urge to take a victory lap/brag about hammering the left?) But who knows.
― Platinum Penguin Pavilion (soref), Wednesday, 29 May 2024 09:28 (four weeks ago) link

I also wouldn't be surprised if she said one thing to Starmer, another to Sky and now another on Twitter. Not quite sure how Labour thought this would play out to their advantage.
