I’m hearing from Islington Labour that Praful Nargund’s campaign had such an awful start he’s thinking of quitting. Despite knocking 100s of doors over the weekend they only found 3 people who’d vote for him. Nargund close to tears & an NEC member had to persuade him to carry on.

The Guardian understands that the party could make a renewed push to exclude her from standing again for her Hackney North and Stoke Newington seat after she liked a post on X by Jeremy Corbyn’s wife, Laura Alvarez, about his decision to stand as an independent candidate. Restoring the whip to Abbot would allow her to leave the party “with dignity”, according to party sources.

Party sources acknowledge the huge amount of support that Abbott has locally and had been hoping to find a civil agreement and not stand for Labour at the next election due to what are termed as health difficulties.

But sources close to Abbott have questioned why her future in the party has been linked to her health, and why she cannot make the decision.

Luke is probably one of ugliest freaks of the Labour Right, everything about him is grotesque. I think even people who are not fans of Diane will be inclined to agree with this.

I am personally a bit suspicious of some of her antics, and the infantilisation of her as 'auntie' Diane by left twitter, but don't see enough of a problem to just humiliate her like this and bar her. A lot of dislike does come down to racism, and the way she has been treated feeds into that.

But yes she isn't liked and a creep like Luke has the advantage of being unknown.

Robert Peston tweeted something saying that she'd negotiated a deal with the leadership where she'd retire, the whip would be restored, Starmer and other senior figures would make respectful statements paying tribute to her, but then these briefings appeared in the Times saying that she'd been barred from standing (from Labour right types who couldn't resist the urge to take a victory lap/brag about hammering the left?) But who knows.
