Donald Trump: Classic or Dud?

Just found my LiveJournal post from 2004 the night Dubya won re-election. Actually much more similar to my reaction in 2016 than I realized in the doom and gloom tone.

doesn't look good for Kerry at all. Plus the dishonorable pile of crap Mel Martinez won.

I'm not sure how to feel about this.

Disbelief isn't even an emotion I'm feeling because I know the general populace is barely capable of carrying out simple tasks, much less voting for a leader. After all, 50 million people thought a bumbling idiot with a poor record in Texas and very little political experience was a good Presidential candidate in 2000.

This is one of the worst Presidents in history, who is far more feeble than his father (who lost after one term), and he's about to be re-elected? Unfuckingbelievable. It just goes to show you religion still runs our nation. And that is goddamn sad.

A large portion of the voters for Bush tout "common sense", which in reality is not "common sense" but rather force-fed archaic ideals passed down from generation to generation without so much as a question of their validity. And usually they pigeonhole solutions to problems in terms far too black-and-white and simplistic to be realistic.

I suppose we can thank the old fossils who are so entrenched in their stubborn, non-compromising beliefs for this.

Perhaps we can also thank many of the school systems for generating generic Republican high school graduates who vote without critical thinking. I know my old High School was guilty of bias. You should have seen my 11th grade History class. We had a Vietnam vet who admitted he "accidentally" shot an unarmed 14 year-old girl in combat and killed her telling us he hated people who questioned war, and didn't notice the irony.

A majority of the states have banned gay marriage. I am disgusted with humanity today.

A sect of my friends have said they'd get a little guilty pleasure from seeing Bush win because they'd subconsciously enjoy watching the world crumble apart. I almost wonder if I feel the same way now.

I'm not saying I think another Bush administration will destroy this world, but we're headed even further in the wrong direction and things are looking bad for our long term. Maybe I'm drawing a little guilty pleasure knowing that the morons who voted for Bush this time around are going to be included in the list of people who suffer under his administration, but that also includes me, my friends, and family, so I can take no pleasure out of it.

Yes. This is what I've been saying for the last eight years. America is now the country that elected Donald Trump president. Not just a racist, not just a criminal, but an obvious fucking idiot. In the eyes of the rest of the world, that is who we are, forever. We are the richest and most powerful and heavily armed country in the world and our chosen leader was — and might be again — a fucking moron. I know for most Americans the rest of the world doesn't count, but for people who actually have to engage with other countries professionally or politically or whatever, it's a stain that will never wash out.

The rest of the world is used to (Republican) American presidents being morons tbf.

Bush 2 was an idiot, a warmonger, a crook, etc., but he was ultimately a creature of the system. He was literally dynastic succession in action. Trump is none of that; he is a product of America's business community, yes, but he doesn't give a fuck about that because he doesn't give a fuck about anything but himself.

2coups is dynastic wealth in action. the poor man's idea of a rich man. the MAGAts would love to have his 'fuck you' money and behave with similar pornographic impunity. to overgeneralize whatever fine the average MAGAt worships money and leisure. 2coups' pathological lies and the attendant hypocrisy of his "conservative" wannabe political and shill followers are the ideal of the american rotten enough to vote republican. they are outnumbered, by the way, while the decent among us snipe and cavil at one another

in my humble opinion!

see there's still a fundamental difference to me between Trump and Dubya - when it came to Bush, I never had any doubt that he was actually a practicing Christian. I truly believed that he did love America too, even though that took him to such horrible and cruel ends. Trump on the other hand, fucking despises this country. It comes through in everything he does and everything he says. no American institution means a damn thing to him. the insurrection was actually good since the people who did it were fans of his. he caters hard to religious people even though it is abundantly clear he is not one himself. the man does not attend church, he cannot name a single passage from the Bible, and he is more than any other American I can think of the embodiment of the seven deadly sins. if you actually read the Bible, every single villain in it resembles Trump in some way. and yet religious folks cannot get enough of this guy. they literally view him as a saviour. there is no logic whatsoever remaining within these people. their entire belief system holds no water whatsoever, unlike that of Reagan and Dubya, which, as evil as it was, at least tried to maintain *some* internal consistency. Trump on the other hand has revealed organized religion, at least the organized religion which now supports him as a central plank, to be a total sham.

so while yes those guys set it in motion, I feel like far more "credit" has to go to Rupert Murdoch/FOX News, and of course Mitch McConnell, who gleefully traded away the idea of doing anything positive for the country whatsoever in exchange for just saying no to whatever Obama wanted, thereby solidifying the position that the Republican party was not there to help its voters, or to fight for America, or anything else, they were literally just there to fuck over Democrats. and that's what leads directly to a party whose only political goal is "Trump"

Well, that's the tenuous connection -- the only connection -0 between Trump and some of my extreme leftist friends: the country should burn to the ground.

I'm not there yet because though I suspect I know poorer people who agree with these people these poor people will be the first under the hatchet should this country go under.

Several ambulances pulled up to the courthouse within the last half hour.

“The issue is not believed to be connected to the Trump trial," according to a senior NYC official.

I have to believe he's about to be convicted on at least some of the counts. If it were a hung jury the judge would ask to deliberate some more
