out there, not smoking weed makes you part of the counter-culture. (Bad Joke: You stick to drugs you can get over the counter)

Ned, if you haven't smoked dope, how did your hair get that long?

*grousegripe* Once again my motivations are misunderstood.

I suppose it is possible that I have misunderstood the causal connections there, Ned. But I maintain that the statistical evidence is on my side.

I'm nearly at three years without any drugs at all; not bad for a 23-year-old who was a mentalist dope-head at 15, eh?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 21 February 2003 23:24 (twenty-one years ago) link

I have this theory where certain drugs connect to certain kinds of music.

In this theory:
Pot connects to Reggae
Alcohol connects to Rock
Speed connects to Punk
E connects to House

But what about coke and heroin. Do they connect to music?

Erm yeah

Andrew L (Andrew L), Sunday, 23 February 2003 09:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

I've smoked weed with my mom! And I gave it to her, not the other way around. ha.
It's complete bullshit to say that drugs (I guess I mean doja, mostly) make anyone on them stupid and boring! There've been plenty of times when I haven't been high that I've noticed that some people kind've bloom when they smoke. Like, there's a certain kind of intelligent introvert that just opens up and becomes a really interesting conversationalist high, when normally you won't be able to get two words out of them all night.
Sure, a lot of people act/talk stupid when they're stoned, but most of those people are just barely able to cover up their stupidity when straight anyway.
Oh, damn, and you know, the people who are the most fucking annoying when they're doing drugs are the ones who usually never do them; 'cause they make a big production out of it and then if they don't like it they always have to really over-play that, coughing and sputtering and being all like "oh god I'm so high I'm having an attack I need to go to the hospital!!!" after one hit when it's obviously a completely bullshit play for attention.

Dan I., Sunday, 23 February 2003 10:34 (twenty-one years ago) link

I was vehemently anti-drugs/drink till two weeks before I turned 21, by which point I realized that I was insanely curious and that was what was making me such a fucking tightass about it. (n.b. I am not accusing anyone who doesn't take drugs or drink of being a tightass, I'm saying I was, big-time.) I also know my own personality (obsessive-compulsive, as anyone who's seen my lists is aware) and figured I just wouldn't do them very much, and I haven't. also, I've just never been offered them all that often, which has helped. I've smoked pot a fair amount (it doesn't do a hell of a lot for me most of the time, though that probably has to do with the lousy weed most of my coworkers/friends got than anything), taken acid twice, done coke three or four times (nice, but not long-lasting enough for me, though I have a couple friends who love the stuff), done E twice (favorite by far), and done mushrooms probably two dozen times. I LOVE mushrooms.

''Alcohol connects to Rock''

alcohol that is connected to rock is mostly garbage. Rock that is connected to LSD and speed is the best stuff.

but then of course how do you explain the fact that Fushitsusha don't take drugs and yet have made some of the most fantastic psych rock recordings ever.

Don't have theories Jan.

the love/curiosity about coke and heroin on this thread (either for the poster or their pals) is beyond belief to me...having done both of them, i can honestly say that they're the cheapest, most horrible high ever (at least in terms of what i've poisoned myself with over the years), perhaps second only to inhaling things

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 23 February 2003 21:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

well if coke and heroin don't do it for you, what does? you must know you're in the minority calling the 2 giants of needle drugs "cheap and "horrible." quality is an important element, obviously.

Aaron A., Sunday, 23 February 2003 21:58 (twenty-one years ago) link

coke is a needle drug now?

gareth (gareth), Sunday, 23 February 2003 22:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

shooting coke has always been around but is mainly the territory of tweakers/speed freaks i think. i have never/will never try it (I'd die, I'm certain).

Aaron A., Sunday, 23 February 2003 22:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

yeah, the Troggs recorded totally drug free or something like that.

Never been curious about trying drugs.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 23 February 2003 22:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

I can't say I've found coke any less good than speed, personally. Less of a steep comedown too, in my comparatively limited experience. I don't think it's so much better to justify the expense, though.

i don't have the time/space/money anymore but I've tried everything and would at one stage have said acid was my favourite followed by E. I don't think i've ever crapped on boringly at anyone with my drugtaking tales or state of mind. stick with a crew on the same wavelength or do them alone, thats my theory.

Sean (Sean), Sunday, 23 February 2003 23:59 (twenty-one years ago) link

I smoked pot for the first time when I was 16, out of pure curiosity.
Also, I'd done my own research and determined that in moderate amounts
cannabis was not harmful, though I did not plan on making it a lifelong habit.

I did it 1-2 times per month over the course of that summer, and got
drunk about the same number of times. Then when I turned 17
my parents let me leave and go live with my best friend, who is
heavily into using pot. So I started doing it more and more, until
I was getting high every day - but only moderately so, I dosed
myself, I wasn't just sitting around all day, I was doing things like
writing, acting and playing music, alone or in various bands. It
didn't seem to interfere or impair me in any way, so I don't think
I was truly addicted, but who knows - addicts rarely recognize
their own status, do they?

Anyway, in early 2002 I turned eighteen, and this cleancut
preppy girl from my church decided to make me her 'project,'
(U know how it is - the 'good' girls are always attracted to the
'bad' boys)) and convinced me to quit using drugs if
she would become my girlfriend - seems like a vainglorious
gesture, but she was a stone fox, the best looking white
girl in our school, so i agreed. I almost immediately missed the
stuff, but after about a week I realized I was much more alert
and enjoying life more, overall, although I didn't get thoses
euphoric rushes that I was used to.

Well, the white girl moved away and I was left to my own devices, and
I resumed smoking pot, but only occasionally, mostly on weekends,
and i think it's a good balance; moderation is always better than
the extremes of hedonism or puritanism.

(As for other drugs, I never got into them they're mostly
too dangerous or, in the case of psychedelics, too dang MUCH.
I still trip about once a month)

Squrlplise (Squirrel_Police), Monday, 24 February 2003 03:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

P.S,
I think it was inevitable to me to start taking drugs,
since my parents were dead set against them.

squrlplice (Squirrel_Police), Monday, 24 February 2003 03:41 (twenty-one years ago) link

Nope - I've smoked pot and tried hash but wasn't particularly enamoured of either of the experiences. And the same for hard alcohol - I don't like the taste or the feeling. But I come from a family where there was drug usage and that may explain a lot of my aversion, in that I associated narcotics with bad memories.

I wanted to do a 'shroom trip, at one time, for the whole psychic awakening experience, but then one day I went by my mother's after college and my younger sister (high school seniors) and some of her girlfriends were there. As I walked in they were all giggling. Then my sister said "Hey, we just took some 'shrooms!" I was taken back, mainly because I thought that she was not experimenting. Anyway, about 45 minutes later, I was in the dining room and they came through looking for munchies. One of the girls made an odd noise and crumpled - I caught her on her way down and she went into a full-blown seizure. Thank god she came out of fairly fast, but it was still scary as hell.

And then, two years ago, I heard that a little boy that I used to babysit, had taken 'shrooms and had a bad reaction and died. Out of the blue. It was really a shock.

I am not at all against drugs, and am in favor of legalization. I would like to see regulation of the strength of drugs, and there to be less of a stigma in getting assistance when something goes wrong.

My first clear memory is of my father doing lines of coke off an antique handmirror. I was in bed and the door was open and I could see through to the table where he was standing, in his boxers. Creepy.

I've been pretty slow when it comes to this stuff. I was almost 20 before I was ever drunk, and I didn't even smoke pot until a year and a half ago. Now I do, maybe once a month. (Mostly I do it while listening to music with a bandmate.) The only other drug I have any interest in doing is mushrooms; I've heard too many horror stories about everything else.

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 15 November 2003 09:29 (twenty years ago) link

Without smoking or without inhaling? Cause the best way of all is a vaporizer. Do a google search on it.

Drugs, meh. I don't care about the health risks, I always just remember what a friend of mine who did some work in Colombia told me, horror stories about coke kingpins down there who would murder entire families if they felt one member of it posed a threat to their business. Seriously, legalize it all, because until then you're putting money into the pockets of vile cunts.

I've done weed before, I've been high, but it was pretty disgusting. Can't stand the smell or the effect.

Now I'm gonna go drink and fight Mike Skinner http://i.imdb.com/Photos/CMSIcons/emoticons/basic2/upset.gif

Oops, sometimes I think about a moment in EJ Br0nkema's class when some people were talking about how bad marijuana was, and J@y C0llins rolled his eyes, and I said something along the lines of "I feel ya, bro ... I mean, I don't smoke pot now, but there's always college, right?" And he was all like, "Haha, what's up, you my boy." Of course, the irony is, I never actually smoked pot in college.

Back to your drugs thread, people.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 15 November 2003 09:40 (twenty years ago) link

You can make THC cooking oil and butter, so pot brownies are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to foods you can make that'll get you high.

Who was dissing the herb? You went to Kalamazoo, right john? I thought everyone there was required to smoke pot.

oops (Oops), Saturday, 15 November 2003 09:40 (twenty years ago) link

oh back in college it was a non stop psychedlic explosion but hardly ever any more. It did become increasingly less fun and landed me in the hospital once as well with heart problems. Still, I managed to LOOSE an entire bottle of liquid LSD somewhere in my house last year so if anyone finds it, let me know. I still smoke pot but only very rarely because I have to smoke so much to enjoy it that it messes up my lungs and does bad things to my skin.

Fuck, I don't actually know what the conversation was about, except I felt it necessary to tell Jay that I was "cool."

Yeah, there were plenty of pot-smokers at Kzoo, but I fell in with a pretty straight-edge crowd fairly early and then never had much interest in it.

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 15 November 2003 09:45 (twenty years ago) link

From what I've heard, Jay's been smoking for quite awhile. I think he got Dan Sp1nab3lla who I first smoked with-- started, which is almost inconceivable---I can't imagine someone being the weed sensai to him. I didn't start until the end of that year, junior year. I thought it was bad and didn't want to kill my brain cells. hahahahaha *sigh*

oops (Oops), Saturday, 15 November 2003 09:51 (twenty years ago) link

Hmm, so reading my older entry on this thread I have to say my answer hasn't changed really except that I've become more honest.

-I drink. When I allow myself to be, I am a complete drunk. I drink less lately b/c I have a job that kicks my ass and I simply can't do it while drinking heavily. However give me the freedom and yeah, I'll drink yr bitch ass under the table.

-I've went through brief stoner periods in the past. I can understand stoners. Sometimes I think I should really be a stoner and not a drunk. But, see, I have asthma and pot makes me super sleepy so. . . that said I've recently been thinking I should look into getting a regular supply as I think it would help with the stress of teaching.

-My hardcore, yeah-I'm-a-degenerate-and-proud-of-it, drug of choice is Cocaine. White lady I love you. I like drinking and pot but they slow me down and dull me. Coke heightens everything and takes me to scary and thrilling peaks I don't experience otherwise. Yeah it's a scary drug for a reason. There have been times were I would do it about two times a month. It was often available and I had to exercise extreme self-control to resist. My lifestyle is different now. It isn't so readily available so when it is presented to me I accept it without a second thought. It's quite simple: I love doing coke. I'm not addicted to it but I see how that could happen. I rarely, if ever, seek it out. If it's been three months or so since I did it I'll be wanting it and putting some feelers out. However, I'm not beating down the doors of known back-alley dealers every weekend. It's good times every now and then but would kill me quickly if I indulged on a regular basis. (that said I haven't had any since august and am trying to score this weekend.)

I don't like speed as much but still won't turn it down if offered. I've never ever bought it. The main reason I don't like it is b/c my mother was a speed freak and it wrecked my adolescence. For the same reason I would never, ever shoot up. Catching your parents spiking their veins really kills that for you. It ain't the same as having them blaze up or snort lines in front of you, trust me.

I know a lot of people hate coke, that's fine. Don't judge me though, cause you don't know me. You don't like it? Fine. I don't do drugs in front of people who aren't down with it. It's a drag for all concerned. But if you want to try and preach to me I'll fuckin' take you down. I'm an adult, you're an adult. Deal with it.
