You may want to try out the National Museum of American History, I think they have an americana-type food store with that kind of stuff, or at least they used to. Any of the italian specialty stores (Vace, The Italian Store, Litteri's) should have a pretty good licorice selection. Maybe Chocolate Moose on L St.

I heart Misha's, the lattes & espressos are super. You know, I have yet to find a place ANYWHERE that serves a really good cup of plain regular black coffee. Why is this so hard?

The second half of that game.. snooze.. Bill Parcells looking glum.. snooze.

Well, TOMBOT, it's official--you and I are now, in a sense, coworkers.

So yeah, please indoctrinate me in all things LM. All I know is that ever since my (soon-to-be no longer) company has been in talks, I've been forced to fill out a zillion stupid project management forms for every little project, especially those with an IT component. Apparently LM buys into the whole CMMI bullshit.

And seriously, does LM give two shits about non-defense-related HHS contracts? 'Cause that's my bread and butter. Maybe it is time for me to start job hunting.

quincie, Monday, 19 December 2005 14:08 (eighteen years ago) link

LM is all about taking over every IT Operations & Maintenance contract it can. It doesn't matter which government agency, as long as they can fit it into their managed services framework. Watch for turnover to skyrocket.

Which business division are you going to fall under, though? IT, I assume?

TOMBOT, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:37 (eighteen years ago) link

Yep, IT. There's a press release up on LM's public site, which cracked me up when I first went there--big shot of a fancy fighter jet. Doods, I don't know nothin' about no fighter jets, nor do I particularly want to.

It Feels Real Good Making Dallas Feel Bad

There can't be much greater glory in sports, not in the regular season anyway, than crushing a hated rival late in the season with a spot in the playoffs probably at stake..

whatchall doing for xmas/new years?

so far my only plan is to have mimosas on christmas morning

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 22 December 2005 16:52 (eighteen years ago) link

I like your plan.

carly OTM about Best Cellars by the way! I had to restock yesterday and went there and they had 20% off if you bought a case, so I picked seven, they helped me out picking five more and the whole mess came in at under $10/bottle with tax! That's hot!

Also, the Childe Harold has some excellent wings. Do you know what's crazy, though? That TS Muttly's joint on 18th has the best wings in the whole city! They're a quarter each on football sundays too. Who knew?

I couldn't find the latest one.

I go to DC: what airport do I land in a plane at?

river wolf, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 22:31 (sixteen years ago) link

dca (reagan national) is easiest and closest

but iad (dulles) and bwi are good if it'll save you some $

mookieproof, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 22:44 (sixteen years ago) link

mookie is correct.

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 22:48 (sixteen years ago) link

national? you can take the metro from there. bwi or dulles - possibilities as well, but you are in for a long bus ride on the other end to get to the city

daria-g, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 22:54 (sixteen years ago) link

haha nobody wants to call it 'reagan'

daria-g, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 22:55 (sixteen years ago) link

also it will be expensive taking cab from dulles, unless you have arrangements for someone to pick u up. it's way the fuck out there

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 22:55 (sixteen years ago) link

H'm. Working on the "getting picked up" angle. Final destination is actually Richmond, VA, but I've heard that airfare is cheaper to DC. Some friends are driving down from NYC (we're going to a wedding), so they may be able to pick me up at an airport, but if they can't the price diff between Richmond and DC may be a wash if I have to take the bus.

As an aside: how much is Chinatown bus to NYC from DC? I'm wondering if I can make the whole East Coast Tour on this one trip.

river wolf, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 23:00 (sixteen years ago) link

you're right. i used to live in richmond, you don't wanna fly in there. $$$. the chinatown bus is called the fung wah. i think it's 15-25?? but i think there are several different companies that have buses back and forth

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 23:09 (sixteen years ago) link

whoah, diff is only like $50?

river wolf, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 23:09 (sixteen years ago) link

between DC and VA, I mean, right now, on kayak

river wolf, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 23:10 (sixteen years ago) link

oh that's good. in that case, maybe you should fly into richmond. it's usually like a 300 dollar difference.

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 23:14 (sixteen years ago) link

maybe i got lucky? pretty cheap all around, i thought: 250 for MSP to DC.

river wolf, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 17:25 (sixteen years ago) link

fwiw taking a regular greyhound is only $3-5 more than the chinatown bus is, though chinatown bus is likely to let you haggle if it is not peak travel time.

tho oddly due to insanity of dc the chinatown bus drops you off in a more convenient location than the greyhound does unlike anywhere else in the world so this is pointless advice unless you are taking the bus OUT of dc.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Thursday, 26 July 2007 15:25 (sixteen years ago) link

also: it's relatively easy and not terribly expensive to get to dc from bwi using the train (unlike dulles which is just like in another country i think?), but horseshoe 100% correct on the baggage situation. obviously if you can use REAGAN lol it is the bestest option of all.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Thursday, 26 July 2007 15:26 (sixteen years ago) link

reagan national is the best because it was a gift of swedish-american hero grover norquist. appropriately, the airport is situated adjacent to the yellow and blue lines of whamata's metrorail system, and is accented by pleasing yellow tones. we should thank god that mr. norquist saved us from the great big red and blue bush national airport sought by famous norwegian-american rival karl christian rove.

gabbneb, Thursday, 26 July 2007 15:36 (sixteen years ago) link

National rules. Except when you are landing from the Northwest and are hungover. Then, it really, really, really, really, really sucks.

also: it's relatively easy and not terribly expensive to get to dc from bwi using the train (unlike dulles which is just like in another country i think?)

Easy, take the Washington Flyer from Dulles to West Falls Church Metro ($9), hop right on the Orange Line.

Phil D., Thursday, 26 July 2007 15:58 (sixteen years ago) link

national also looks like an 8 year old's idea of the future, just like much of dc.

phil, that takes literally hours. whereas the theoretical train situation from bwi would not take that long, though the obvious problem of whether or not the shuttle is actually running anything resembling the schedule they claim is thrown in there.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Thursday, 26 July 2007 15:59 (sixteen years ago) link

B.L.A.M. O.T.M.

I have no idea what or where reagan airport is.

I DIED, Thursday, 26 July 2007 16:00 (sixteen years ago) link

ie its doable but i wouldn't recommend it unless it was your only option and you had a lot of time to kill. it's also cheaper to get a cab from bwi than it is from dulles BUT BUT BUT warningwarningwarning bwi now has its own taxi service which SUCKS and none of the drivers have any fucking clue where they are going (even if it is a place that, you know, maryland taxi drivers should know where it is, like DOWNTOWN SILVER SPRING)

soooo actually i'm going to say that bwi is somehow managing to make itself worse and worse, i had forgotten about the semi-new cab situation.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Thursday, 26 July 2007 16:01 (sixteen years ago) link

in closing, forget it, bwi has become as bad as dulles.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Thursday, 26 July 2007 16:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Yes, see, all your options actually involved going to fucking bwi. National really is the best option. Shit, I lived in Fairfax for six years and still preferred National.

or you could ride the $3 dulles metrobus from WFC or rosslyn u bourgie fuks

69, Thursday, 26 July 2007 16:04 (sixteen years ago) link

also there is a greenbelt -> BWI $3 metrobus too

again, some of us do not have 7 hours to kill once we get out of an airport!

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Thursday, 26 July 2007 16:04 (sixteen years ago) link

man the bwi taxi service really pissed me off last time i came thru bwi like last month or so. christ.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Thursday, 26 July 2007 16:05 (sixteen years ago) link

i was going from bwi to dupont circle at like 11pm and it somehow took nearly two hours and we ended up at the convention center???

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Thursday, 26 July 2007 16:05 (sixteen years ago) link

dude those buses come every half-hour WINK WINK and they take like 15 mins to get there UBF

Phil D., Thursday, 26 July 2007 16:07 (sixteen years ago) link

then the time before that i was piggy-backing onto my boss's taxi, he lives in downtown silver spring so i was going to just get off and take the metro and like the driver was completely mystified by even the concept of a town called silver spring. it's like 20 minutes away from bwi!!

lol @ wink wink also lol @ bus + metro at a lot of times pplz would be coming in at airport :\

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Thursday, 26 July 2007 16:07 (sixteen years ago) link

Last time I flew out of dulles I took the metro to west falls church and did the Dulles Flyer shuttle. Took a while but worked fine. On the way back I took a cab back from West Falls Church metro after the Flyer dropped me off, since I had mad luggage and would have had to take a cab from foggy bottom anyway. The cab was only $16! Awesome.

Or you could take the 69 bus, there are probably girls on it and you could have a crush.
